Police Have Arrested Two Persons With 70,000 Illegal Cigarette Sticks At Dambulla

Police have arrested two persons with 70,000 sticks of
illegally imported Cigarettes in their possession at Panampitiya in Dambulla (Central Province).

Police have arrested the 21 and 31 year old suspects who are residents of Aranayake area ,while they were transporting the illegal cigarette sticks from a van .

The suspects are due to be produced before the Dambulla Magistrate Court today (14).

Police Have Arrested A Person With Two Firearms At Puttalam

Police have arrested a person with two firearms made
in foreign country in his possession at Mahakumdukkadawala area in Puttalam (North Western Province).

The suspect had kept the firearms to hunt animals according to the Police.

Mundalama Police are conducting further investigations on the incident.

Around 2361 Hectares Of Land Belonging To Forest Reserves In Up Country Destroyed Due To Fire

Around 2361 hectares of land  belonging to forest
reserves  in up country had been destroyed  during last few weeks it has been reported.

Out of this  number majority which is 470 hectares belonging to forest reserves in Badulla District had been destroyed due to  fire the reports have stated.

Most of the fires burnt these forest reserves were man made ones investigations have revealed.

Water Levels Of Main Reservoirs In Central Hills Are On The Decrease

Water levels of the main reservoirs in central hills are
decreasing rapidly it has been revealed.

Accordingly water levels of Castlereigh and Maussakale reservoirs which supplying water to new laxapana ,wimalasurendra and polpitiya water reserves have decreased below 40%.

The dry weather condition prevailing in central hills at present has caused this situation.
