A 90 Year Old Person Was Killed Due To A Wild Elephant Attack

A 90 year old person was killed early this morning  at Sarvodaya village in Manampitiya Area due to a wild elephant attack it has been reported.

The crtically injured person was admitted to the Manampitiya Hospital and succumbed to his injuries on admission to Polonnaruwa Hospital for further treatment.

Thr deceased was attacked by the wild elephant while he was near his residence .


Two Persons Were Killed Due To A Road Accident In Eravur

Two persons were killed as the speeding Motor Cycle they were in veered off the road and crashed to a lamp post in Eravur Area at Batticaloa District (Eastern Province) today (23).

The 17 year old deceased who were residents in Eravur area succumbed to their injuries on admission  to Batticaloa Hospital according to the Police.

All State Owned Pharmacies And Sub Pharmacies To Issue 48 Price Reducted Drugs To Reduced Prices From Tomorrow (24)

All the State  owned Pharmacies (Rajaye Osu Sal) and sub Pharmacies are due to issue the 48 price reducted drugs to the public according to the reduced prices with effect from tomorrow (24) the Ministry of Health,Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine  has been announced.

Accordingly 32 State owned pharmacies and 130 sub pharmacies in the island  will issue high quality laboratory tested drugs mentioned in the  Gazette Notification from tomorrow under the instructions of Minister of Health Dr.Rajitha Senaratne the Ministry has stated.

Health Minister has also ordered the Special Investigations Unit of the Health Ministry to conduct raids in pharmacies throughout the island to check whether these pharmacies are selling the price reducted 48 drug varieties according to the reduced prices.

Ministry Of Health is due to introduce two special contact numbers for public to make complaints regarding pharmacies which not selling  price reducted drugs under the instructions given in the Gazette Notification soon the Ministry Sources have revealed.

After Imposing 15% VAT On Cigarettes The Cigarette Price Will Be Increased To Rs.55-Minister Of Health

After imposing 15% VAT (Value added tax) on cigarettes the price of a Cigarette will be increased to Rs.55 Minister Of Health,Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Dr.Rajitha Senaratne has stated.


The Cabinet has recently increased the price of a Cigarette by seven rupees and accordingly the current Cigarette Price is Rs .42 Minister has revealed.


Addressing a function held at the Ministry of Health Minister Dr.Senaratne has stated studies have revealed that when the price of a Cigarette has been decreased smoking rate increased by 1% from 4% to 5%.

Taxes will be imposed on locally made "Beedi" and "Cigars as well in future in view of reducing the smoking of these products Minister has further added.
