Around four acres belonging to the Kirimatithanna Forest Reserve in Balangoda had been destroyed due to a sudden fire erupted in the area it has been reported.
Police and the residents in the area had managed to douse the fire.No casualties have been reported due to the fire.
The cause of the fire has not yet been revealed and Balangoda Police are conducting further investigations on the incident.
Colombo Municipal Council has decided to remove all unauthorized bill-boards displayed in Municipal Council Limits with effect from tonight in view of ensure the beauty of Colombo City it has been reported.
Municipal Council has already requested the owners of these unauthorized bill-boards to remove them and if they do not respond to the request the Municipal Council has no other option than to remove these bill-boards and claim the cost spend for removal process from the bill-board owners the Council has stated.
The Colombo Fort Magistrate has today (23) ordered to remand three former director generals attached to the Tourism Development Authority until 06th of September over allocating Rs.5.7 million funds belonging to the authority for Uva provincial council election campaign.
The suspects were remanded after being produced before fort magistrate this evening.
They are due to be produced again before the court on 06th of September.
During the raids carried out at trade centers and eateries island wide on Monday (22)and Tuesday(23) under the National Food Safety Week the Public Health Inspectors had been recovered 6009 varieties of soft
drinks which didn't indicate the contained sugar level through the color
code system introduced by the Health Ministry it has been reported.
According to the Public Health Inspectors Association around 1722 soft drink varieties had been recovered during the raids carried out on Monday the first day of the National Food Safety Week and 4287 varieties of soft drinks were recovered during the raids today(23).
All these varieties of Soft Drinks are due to be sent back to the manufacturers as they are unable to implement color code system to indicate sugar levels In their products according to the Ministry Of Health.
Food and Drinks not suited for human consumption had been destroyed 5902 instances and legal cases filed against 293 traders for selling unsuited food items during the raids carried out in last two days the president of the Public Health Inspectors Association Upul Rohana has stated.
During the raids carried out yesterday night notices were issued to 52 eateries attached to long distance bus stops in the island which are selling food and drinks not suitable for human consumption he has stressed.
