A Medical Association Has Allowed A Foreign Milk Powder Company To Promote Their Products During Annual Academic Sessions Of The Association

At a time the government doctors are Campaigning against  consuming of Milk Powder ,the medical circles have amazed the decision taken by one of the leading medical associations in Sri Lanka The Sri Lanka Medical Association to allow a foreign Milk Powder company to sponsor their three day a annual academic sessions held at a star hotel during this week.

The Annual Academic Sessions of the Sri Lanka Medical Association which ended today had been mainly sponsored by the above mentioned foreign Milk Powder company and under the sponsorship the  company had allowed to display banners of their Milk Powder products including infant formulas during the sessions  it has been reported

As the  government doctors are promoting breastfeeding  among mother's to feed their infants a DR's Association backing a Milk Powder company to advertise their products Is a very unfair according to Medical Circles. 

Joint Opposition To Go Ahead With The Protest March Despite The Court Order

Although the Kandy chief Magistrate has issued a restrain order against the protest march organized tomorrow (28) by the Joint Opposition  Group in Kandy,the group has stated  that it will commence the protest march as scheduled while respecting the court order.

The Kandy Chief Magistrate has today issued a restrain order against four Joint Opposition MP's who are organizing the protest march not to commence the protest march within Kandy City limits.

However the Joint Opposition has stated that their members will first pay the homage to sacred tooth relics in Dalada Maligawa in Kandy tomorrow and afterwards commence the protest march as scheduled.

Around 14 Tea Pluckers Were Hospitalized Due To A Wasp Attack In Maskeliya

Image result for waspAround 14  Tea Pluckers attached to Brunswick Tea Estate in Maskeliya(In Up Country) have injured and hospitalized this morning due to a Wasp Attack according to the reports.

The injured were admitted to the Maskeliya Hospital for treatment.

Special Task Force Personal Have Detained A Person With Kerala Cannabis

Image result for detainedThe Special Task Force Personal have today(27) detained a person who was transporting a stock of 03 Kilo Grammes and 180 Grammes of Kerala Cannabis  at Colombo Fort.

The suspect who is  a 60 year old resident in Vavuniya (In Northern Province) had been detained while he was in a Train running from Vavuniya to Mount Lavinia it has been reported.

The suspect is due be produced before Colombo Fort Magistrate today.The Fort Police are conducting further investigations on the incident.

Sri Lanka Has Rated As Having Highest number of Breastfeeding Mothers among 121 countries In The Globe-Dr.Mahipala

Image result for breastfeeding rate in sri lankaAccording to a recently concluded survey carried out in 121 countries in the globe this year Sri Lanka has become the Number One Country which has highest breastfeeding rate among mothers the Director General Of Health Services Dr.Palitha Mahipala has stated today(27).

In 2012 also Sri Lanka has rated as a nation which have highest breastfeeding rate among mothers out of 51 countries in the globe Dr.Mahipala has revealed.

In Sri Lanka around 92% of the mothers are breastfeeding their infant within few hours after giving birth and that rate should be increased up to 95% he has stressed.

The Director General Of Health Services has also stated the need of limiting the advertising of Infant Milk Powder in the country.A special committee has now in a process of changing the clauses regarding advertising of infant milk powder he has further stated.

Dr.Mahipala has made these remarks during a media seminar held today(27) at the Health Education Bureau in Colombo regarding the National Breast feeding Week due to implement from  01st to 07th of August this year.

President And Health Minister To Submit A Cabinet Memorandum On Increasing Of Cigarette Taxes

no msoking සඳහා පින්තුර ප්‍රතිඵලPresident Maithripala Sirisena and Minister Of Health,Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Dr.Rajitha Senaratne are due to jointly submit a Cabinet Memorandum regarding increasing of taxes imposed on Cigarettes  from 72% to 90% to the Cabinet next week according to Health Minister Dr.Senaratne.

This move will be taken in view of further reducing the smoking rate in the country to prevent spreading of non communicable diseases like Heart Disease,Cancers and Strokes which all caused due to smoking the Minister has stressed.

The government is also planning to introduce a plain white Cigarette Pack like in Australia and to stop cultivation of Tobacco in the country by the year 2020 to further reduce the smoking rate in the country he has stated.

The measures will also be taken to minimize the use of liquor and narcotics in the society  in view of reducing the spreading of non communicable diseases Health Minister has said during a ceremony held to hand over the appointment letters to 1034 Post Intern Doctors at BMICH in Colombo yesterday(26).

The government has spend around Rs.200 billion annually to treat patients suffering from non communicable diseases which mainly caused due to the Smoking and Liquor Use the Health Ministry has revealed.
