Total Number Of Dengue Patients Reported This Year Exceeded 20,000 With 31 Deaths
The total number of Dengue Patients reported this year has been exceeded 20,000 now
and around 31 patients have died up to date due to the disease according to Ministry Of Health ,Nutrition And Indigenous Medicine .
As the Dengue has become an epidemic at the moment the Minister Of Health Dr.Rajitha Senaratne has instructed the authorities to implement a continuous house to house inspection progrmme island wide to search and destroy mosquito breeding places with effect from tomorrow(27) .The tri forces ,police and civil defense personal are due to handle this house to house inspection programme and Health Minister has personally requested the Defense Ministry Secretary today to provide sufficient number of officers from these forces for the programme.
According to the Hospital Sources a large number of Dengue Patients are currently receiving treatment from three government hospitals namely Colombo National,IDH Fever and Maharagama Hospitals and majority of them numbering 60 patients are being currently at IDH Fever Hospital.
Dengue among school children is on the increase and a large number of Dengue Patients are being admitted to Borella Lady Ridgway Children's Hospital daily due to Dengue it has been reported.
As the mosquito population in recent flood affected areas is on the increase steps have been taken to destroy mosquito breeding places in those areas the Health Ministry has stated.A special three day island wide dengue control programme is also due to be implemented from 30th of June to 02nd of July .

Sri Lanka Navy Detained Five Persons With A Stock Of Ilegally Harvested Sea Cucumbers
Sri Lanka Navy have detained five persons with 142 sea cucumbers in their possession and two fiberglass dinghies (boats) at Palaikuda Beech Area as they have harvested sea cucumbers without a valid license according to the Navy.
The detained persons with the stock of sea cucumbers and fiber glass dinghies were handed over to the pooneryn fisheries inspector for future course of action the Navy have stated.

Ministry Of Health To Issue A Special Gazette Notification In August To Introduce A Color Code For Soft Drink Bottles
The Ministry Of Health,Nutrition And Indigenous Medicine has decided to issue a special gazette notification on 01st of August to introduce a color code to indicate the sugar levels of soft drink bottles in the market.
Accordingly the soft drink manufacturers should print green color in the label of their products to indicate the sugar level below 2 grammes,Amber color to indicate the sugar level between 2 tp 11 grammes and Red color to indicate above 11 grammes according to the Ministry.
This color code should be implemented with effect from 01st of August the Ministry has stated.
