Around 3% of the Sri Lanka's Daily Smokers Are School Children-Dr.Mahipala

A latest study has revealed that around 3% of Sri Lanka's daily smokers are school children according to Director General Of Health Services Dr.Palitha Mahipala.

The survey which conducted last year has also revealed around 23.4% of the Sri Lanka's Population still addicted to smoking Dr.Mahipala has stated.

As this situation is a threat to the Sri Lanka's health system the Ministry Of Health has planned to implement several programmes to combat this situation he has stressed.

Around Three Were Killed And Twelve Injured Due To A Van-Bus Collission

Around three passengers  were killed and twelve got injured and hospitalized due to a traffic collision between a van and a private bus at the Ballapana area in Kegalle on Colombo-Kandy main road today(23).

The injured were admitted to kegalle base hospital for treatment and two of the injured reported as in critical condition.

Police Used Tear Gas And Water Canons To Disperse A University Students Protest March At Colpetty

The Police have used tear gas and water cannons this evening to disperse a protesting university students attached to University of Sri Jayawardenapura near Colpetty Junction (In Colombo City)as they attempted to forcibly march towards Temple Trees.

The group of university students who protested against Malabe Private Medical Collage and against combating students  had met with Riot Police near Colpetty Junction it has been reported.

Due to the protest march a severe traffic congestion has been reported along high level road and the entry lane of Galle Road was closed from Colpetty.

What is an ankle sprain?

What causes ankle sprains?

Most types of ankle sprains happen when you make a rapid shifting movement with your foot planted, such as when you play soccer or get tackled in football. Often the ankle rolls outward and the foot turns inward. This causes the ligaments on the outside of the ankle to stretch and tear. Less often, the ankle rolls inward and the foot turns outward. This damages the ligaments on the inside of the ankle.
An ankle sprain can range from mild to severe, depending on how badly the ligament is damaged and how many ligaments are injured. With a mild sprain, the ankle may be tender, swollen, and stiff. But it usually feels stable, and you can walk with little pain. A more serious sprain might include bruising and tenderness around the ankle, and walking is painful. In a severe ankle sprain, the ankle is unstable and may feel "wobbly." You can't walk, because the ankle gives out and may be very painful.

What are the symptoms?

With most sprains, you feel pain right away at the site of the tear. Often the ankle starts to swell immediately and may bruise . The ankle area is usually tender to touch, and it hurts to move it.
In more severe sprains, you may hear and/or feel something tear, along with a pop or snap. You will probably have extreme pain at first and will not be able to walk or even put weight on your foot. Usually, the more pain and swelling you have, the more severe your ankle sprain is and the longer it will take to heal.

A Businessman Was Abducted By An Unknown Group At Vavuniya

An unidentified group has abducted a businessman at Horowpathana Road in Vavuniya today according to Police.The victim was abducted by a group arrived from a van according to eye witnesses.

The Police have recovered the Motor Bicycle,pair of spectacles and slippers  belonging to the abducted businessman from the location he was abducted.

The Police have launched an investigation to find the abducted businessman and to detain the abductors it has been reported.
