Sri Lankan Authorities Today Shipped First Consignment Of Fish To Amsterdam After European Union Lifted Fish Export Ban

Image result for fish export sri lankaSri Lankan Authorities have today(22)shipped the first consignment of fish to Amsterdam ,Netherlands after the European Union lifted the fish export ban imposed on Sri Lanka.

According to the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Sri Lanka has lost Rs.100 million US Dollar revenue per year due to the fish export ban imposed by European Union.

Sri Lanka's fish export earnings has been dropped last year from 73 million Euros to 09 million Euros due to the ban it has been reported.

Supreme Court Has Decided To Go Ahead With The Petition Filed Against VAT Increase

Image result for vat taxThe Supreme Court has today(22) decided to go ahead with the petition filed by National Freedom Front leader MP Wimal Weerawansha and tow others by seeking an order to revise the government's decision  to increase value added  tax(VAT).

The petition is seeking an interim order from the court to prevent the government from order public to pay VAT and it also argued that the Parliament  approval is must  before  increasing the  VAT .

The government has increased the VAT by 4% from 11% to 15% with effect from 02nd of May 2016.

Around 30% Of Sri Lanka's Population Is Addicted To Chewing Betel Leaves

Image result for betel chewingAround 30% of Sri Lanka's population is addicted to chewing betel leaves according to Dr.Hemantha Amarasinghe Consultant Community Densitry attached to Institute of Oral Health at Maharagama.

Youth and Adults are among those addicted to chewing  betel leaves he has stressed.

Addressing a Media Seminar held today( 22)at Health Education Bureau in Colombo ,Dr.Amarasinghe has stated due to the chewing of betel leaves for a long period along with are ca nuts and Tobacco they are at a risk of getting oral cancers.

As there's a law prohibiting  spit  saliva on public places and roads  after chewing betel leaves in Sri Lanka laws should be introduced to  stop chewing betel leaves in public places and institutions in view of deterring chewing betel leaves Dr.Amarasinghe has further stated.
