Cabinet Decided To Grant One Month Relief Period For Flood Victims To Pay Electricity And Water Bills

The Cabinet has yesterday(24) decided to grant one month relief period for those affected by floods in settling  their electricity and water bills.

Meanwhile the government has announced that the cost of the Sri Lanka's floods and landslides  occurred last weak is between US Dollars 1.5 billion to US Dollars 2 billion.

Floods Subsided In Many Districts While The Death Toll Risen To 101

As floods subsided in many of the 22 districts which it affected last week the death toll due to floods and landslides occurred in the island has risen to 101 according to Disaster Management Center(DMC).

Around 100 persons still reported as missing at the landslide site in Aranayake,Kegalle(In Central Province).

According to the DMC around 530 houses in the island completely destroyed due to floods and another 4000 were partly damaged.

One third  of the 650,000  residents in Colombo District were vacated their houses due to the floods occurred last week it has been reported.However as the water levels in flooded areas decreasing those who went for safe places began to return their houses and still around 15,000 people are staying in schools and temples in flooded areas in Colombo according to reports.

Schools in Kolonnawa and Wellmapitiya areas still closed down as the flood victims are staying in those schools.

Senior Artiste Jackson Anthony Has Given A Statement To Presidential Commission Of Inquiry

Image result for presidential commision of inquiryThe senior stage drama,film and tele drama personality jackson anthony has today (24)gave a statement to Presidential Commission of Inquiry in connection with the ongoing investigation on alleged misusing of public funds for the water filling and opening ceremony of hamabanthota harbor in 2010.

The Commission has recorded statements from several other government offficials earlier regarding the allegation.


Supreme Court Has Dismissed The Fundamental Rights Petition Filed Against Field Marshal Fonseka

Image result for supreme court sri lankaThe Supreme Court has today(24)  dismissed a fundamental rights petition filed against field marshal mp sarath fonseka by  seeking an order to revoke the government's decision to appoint him as a member of parliament.

The fundamental rights petition was filed by center for policy alternatives.

The governing united national party(UNP) has appointed the field marshal sarath  fonseka for the parliamentary seat left vacant after the death of former minister M.K.D.S Gunawardena and he was sworn in before parleiament speaker karu jayasuriya on 09th of february.
