Police Have Detained Three Suspects While Transporting 220 Kilo Grammes Of Heroin At Nawagaththegama

The Police have today detained three persons including the main suspect of a Kerala Cannabis Racket  at Maha Andarawewa in Navagatthegama  when two of  them were transporting 220 Kilo Grammes of Kerala Cannabis stored in 110 parcels from a brand new motor car.

Out of the three suspects detained two were identified as a residents in Mannar and the third and main suspect of the Kerala Cannabis Racket who is a resident in Colombo was arrested at Puttalam Area  according to Police.


The stock of Kerala Cannabis  found in possession of two suspects were transporting from Guru Nagar in Jaffna to Modara in Colombo when the arrests were made.

Around 15 Passengers Were Hospitalized Due To A Bus -Lorry Collision At Moratuwa

 Around 15 passengers were injured collision occurred between a Lorry and Sri Lanka Transport Board(SLTB) Bus at Moratuwella in Moratuwa according to Police.

The injured including the Bus Driver were admitted to Moratuwa,Kalubowila and Panadura(In Colombo) Hospitals for treatment.

The accident has occurred due to Bus and Lorry collided each other when the bus picking up passengers  at a Bus Halt .

Moratuwa Police are conducting an investigations on the accident.

Visiting Swedish Foreign Minister Pledged The President Sirisena To Provide Swedish Assistance To Regain GSP+ For Sri Lanka

The visiting Swedish Foreign Minister Margot Wallstrom has today (26)pledged the President Maithripala Sirisena to provide Swedish Government's fullest support to Sri Lanka to regain GSP+ for Sri Lankan Garment Sector.

European Union is currently  considering the possibilities of providing the GSP+ again  to Sri Lanka it has been reported.

Swedish Foreign Minister made these remarks when she met with Sri Lankan President at Presidential Secretariat in Colombo today(26).

During the meeting  Swedish Foreign Minister Wallstrom and Sri Lankan President held talks to strengthen  bi lateral relations between the two countries it has been reported.

A Vaccine Research Center Based In USA And Japan To Use Sri Lankan Children For Testing Process Of Their Newly Developed Dengue Vaccine

A Vaccine Research Center based in United States Of America and Japan has selected 10 countries in the world  including Sri Lanka to test their newly developed Dengue Control Vaccine according to the Health Ministry soutces .


Sri Lanka is the only Asian Country selected for testing process of this new Dengue Vaccine it has been reported.

The above mentioned Vaccine Research Center has already signed an agreement with Director General Of Health Services Dr.Palitha Mahipala regarding the use of Selected group of Sri Lankan Children for Testing Process of the vaccine the sources have revealed.

Accordingly around 4000 children selected from Dengue risk areas in Colombo are due to be tested for the vaccine by giving each of them two doses of the vaccine. If  it is proved successful the new Dengue Control Vaccine will be introduced to the National Immunization Programme of Sri Lanka with the approval of World Health Organization Health Ministry Sources have further stated.

All The Faculties Of Kelaniya University Have Closed Down For A One Week Period Due To An Infection

The University Of Kelaniya has been temporarily closed down for a one week with effect from today(26) due to an infection spreading in the University's Hostels  according to Vice Chancellor of University Of Kelaniya Professor Sunanda Madduma Bandara.

The decision on  close down the University has been taken on the advise of Kelaniya University's Chief Medical Officer and Public Health Inspector of Kelaniya the Vice Chancellor has announced today(26).

Accordingly all the faculties of   University Of Kelaniya except Ragama Medical Faculty have closed down from today until next Tuesday(03rd of May) it has been reported.
