President Sirisena Has Pledged That He Will Not Allow To Impose Any Taxes That Seriously Affect The Masses

President Maithripala Sirisena has today(18) pledged that he will not allow to impose any taxes that will seriously affect the masses.

The President has also stated he will not care what the opinion of Economists in this regard and will not allow people to face hardships due to tax increases.

"If there are an economists who do not think on public well being they can leave their jobs and go" President Sirisena has stressed during a function held at Pulathisipura in Polonnaruwa.

The Ministry Of Finance has last week announced that the value added tax(VAT) imposed on imported goods and supplied services including health,telecommunication and wholesale and retail trade sectors will be increased from 11% to 15% with effect from 02nd of May .

Special Police Task Force Officers Detained A Man With A Stock Of An Expensive Teak Timber In His Possession

The  Special Police Task Force Officers have today(18) arrested a man at Indrapuram in Mankulam(In Northern Province) Area with a stock of an expensive Teak Timber in his possession without a valid licence.
During the raid Seven Teak Timber Logs have also taken in to  custody by Police Officers.

The  Special Police Task Force Officers have handed over the suspect to Mankulam Police for further investigations.

Due To An Accident A Heavy Traffic Has Been Reported On Colombo-Negambo Main Road

Due to an accident occurred involving a Container ,heavy Traffic has been reported near Wattala Town on Negambo-Colombo Main Rod for a few hours this morning .

No casualties have been reported due to the accident and Police have advised the motorists to use an alternative routes due to the road block,

Constitutional Council Had Nominated Senior DIG Pujitha Jayasundara For The IGP Post

The Constitutional  Council has today(18) nominated the Senior Deputy Inspector General Of Police(DIG) in charge of Western Province Pujitha Jayasundara for the vacant post of Inspector General Of Police (IGP).

The majority of members belonging to Constitutional Council which met this evening at Parliamentary Premises has decided to nominate Senior DIG Pujitha Jayasundara for the IGP Post  and sent their decision to President Maithripala Sirisena it has been reported.

All the three Senior DIG's proposed for the IGP post were present during today's Constitutional Council meeting.
