President Maithripala Sirisena has today(18) pledged that he will not allow to impose any taxes that will seriously affect the masses.
The President has also stated he will not care what the opinion of Economists in this regard and will not allow people to face hardships due to tax increases.
"If there are an economists who do not think on public well being they can leave their jobs and go" President Sirisena has stressed during a function held at Pulathisipura in Polonnaruwa.
The Ministry Of Finance has last week announced that the value added tax(VAT) imposed on imported goods and supplied services including health,telecommunication and wholesale and retail trade sectors will be increased from 11% to 15% with effect from 02nd of May .
