Colombo Magistrate Court Has Issued An Order To Director Of Wild Life Department To Submit A Report On Local Elephant Population

The Colombo Magistrate Court has yesterday (15)issued an order to the Director Of Wild Life Department to submit a report on the situation  of Elephant Population in  Sri Lanka to check whether the local Elephant Population is currently is on the increase  or decrease.
The Colombo Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya has also ordered the Director Of Wild Life Department to submit a report on  people who were killed by the Elephants in recent past.

The Magistrate has issued these orders during the proceeding of a court case regarding keeping an elephants illegally in possession.

According to the report submitted to the court by Wild Life Department so far the Department has taken into custody around 13 Elephants kept by some persons illegally in their possession without a valid licence.Out of these Elephants 9 have been handed over to the Udawalawe Elephant Orphanage and 4 handed over to the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage.

The Body Of The Embilipitiya Youth Who Died After Confrontation With Police Exhumed On A Court Order

Image result for court order logoThe body of the 29 year old Sumith Prasanna who had succumbed to his injuries due to  falling down from up-stair house in Embilipitiya following a confrontation with police at a party house on 04th of January is being exhumed today(15) on a court order.

The Embilipitiya Court has ordered to exhumed the body of the youth  on 10th of March to conduct a second post mortum examination per the request made by Attorney General's Department.

According to the Judicial Medical Officer's Report issued last month on the death of the youth ,the death has occurred as a result of an excessive hemorrhage due to the injuries sustained to his internal organs .

The former Assistant Superintendent Of Police(ASP) in Embilipitiya has been arrested and remanded over the death of the Embilipitiya Youth.

President Has Appointed A Six Member Special Committee To Look Into Power Failure

President Maithripala Sirisena has today (15) appointed a special six member committee to make recommendations to the government on steps that should be taken immediately on Nationwide Power Failure Occurred last Sunday(13). 

The Committee which comprised of Minister Of Power and Renewable Energy Ranjith Siyambalapitiya ,Ministers Patali Champika Ranwaka,Susil Premjayantha,Sagala Ratnayake,and Deputy Ministers Ajith P Perera and Eran Wikramaratne is due to make recommendations to the government on how to supply electricity without failure towards the development of the country and  the day to day life of the public and how to solve issues prevailing in  the field of energy according to President's Media Division.

The First Report of the Committee is due to be submitted to the President withing one week period and the final report by  three months the Media Division has said.

Government Has Decided To Ban Cigarette Smoking Completely In Sri Lanka By The Year 2020- Director General Of Health Services

Sri Lankan Government has taken a decision to ban cigarette smoking completely by the year 2020 as  a major step to   reduce  the spreading of Non Communicable Diseases in the country according to Director General Of Health Services Dr.Palitha Mahipala.

Cigarette Smoking and Liquor have  been identified  asvthe major causes for spreading non communicable diseases like Heart Diseases,High Blood Pressure,Cancer and Cholesterol in Sri Lankan Society Dr.Mahipala has stated during a Media Seminar held at Health Education Bureau in Colombo this morning..

The Cabinet has already approved the proposal to ban Cigarette Smoking Completely in Sri Lanka by the year 2020 submitted by Health Minister Dr.Rajitha Senaratne he has stressed.
