Minister Of Fisheries Mahinda Amaraweera Has Been Appointed As New General Secretary Of UPFA
The Minister Of Fisheries And Aquatic Resources Mahinda Amaraweera has been appointed as the new General Secretary of United Peoples Freedom Alliance(UPFA).
He has filled the vacancy created in General Secretary Post of UPFA due to the death of former General Secretary Professor Vishwa Warnapala.
President Maithripala Sirisena has appointed Minister Amaraweera as the new General Secretary of UPFA during a party meeting held today(08).

Malnutrition Among Local Children Under 5 Years Is On The Decrease-Over Nutrition Among School Children Is On The Increase
Malnutrition among Sri Lankan Children under 5 years old is on the decrease and Over Nutrition among School Children in the country is on the increase according to Ministry Of Health,Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine .
Accordingly the Malnutrition among Children under 5 years has decreased from 21% to 15.5% the Ministry has said.However over nutrition among School Children is currently increasing rapidly due to the bad food habits and living style( like lack of exercise) the Ministry has said.
Due to the over nutrition problem obesity and diabetes among School Children too are on the increase Health Ministry has stated.

Thai Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Arrived Sri Lanka With 130 Thai Delegates For A Four Day State Visit
The Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand Somkid Jatusripitak along with around 130 delegates representing Government and Private Sectors had arrived Sri Lanka this morning for a four day official visit.
The objectives of the Thai Deputy Prime Minister's Sri Lankan Visit is to follow up the Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena's state visit to Thailand last year particularly in areas of Trade and Investment between Sri Lanka and Thailand in the fields of Tourism,Agriculture,Fisheries,Construction,Pharmaceuticals and Consumer Goods.
During his Visit Deputy Premier Somkid is due to meet Government Leaders including Prime Minister Ranil Wikramasinghe and hold bi lateral talks.

Prime Minister Has Announced Government's Proposed Tax Amendments to The Parliament
By making a special statement in Parliament on Proposed Tax Amendments of the Government shortwhile ago ,Prime Minister Ranil Wikramasinghe has stated that the Value Added Tax(VAT) will not be imposed on essential commodities and electricity and the Nation Build Tax(NBT) will not be increased .
According to the Prime Minister the Nation Building Tax will be remained at 2% and Value Added Tax will brought up to 15%.Government will reintroduce the Capital Gain Tax he has said.
In view of boosting the local economy Sri Lanakan Government looking forward to work closely with China,India ,United States and other countries he has further said.firstly Sri Lanka should break up the debt trap Prime Miniaster has said.

Sri Lanka To Remove Food Flavoring Ingredient "Monosodium Glutamate "(MSG) From The Market-Director General Of Health Services
The Food Flavouring Ingredient "Monosodium Glutamate" popularly known as MSG which used to flavour processed foods mostly will be removed from the local market within next two weeks due to it's effect to human health according to Director General Of Health Services Dr.Palitha Mahipala.
Addressing a Media Seminar held at Health Education Bureau in Colombo this morning Dr.Mahipala has said the decision to remove MSG from local market has taken after considering it's impact to human health.
MSG widely used for preparing Korean,Japanese and Chinese cuisines and if consumed more than the required amount MSG may cause symptoms like Headaches,Burning Sensations along the back of the neck ,chest tightness,nausea and sweating according to Medical Experts.
The food industry in foreign countries as well as in Sri Lankan using MSG to enhance meat and savoury flavors in food and it is widely added the savory prepared and processed foods like frozen foods,spice mixes ,salad dressings ,canned and dry soups and meat and fish based products .In some countries MSG used as a table top seasoning.according to experts.
