Sri Lanka To Remove Food Flavoring Ingredient "Monosodium Glutamate "(MSG) From The Market-Director General Of Health Services

The Food Flavouring Ingredient "Monosodium Glutamate" popularly known as  MSG  which used to flavour processed foods mostly will be removed from the local market within next two weeks due to it's effect to human health according to Director General Of Health Services Dr.Palitha Mahipala.

Addressing a Media Seminar held at Health Education Bureau in Colombo this morning Dr.Mahipala has said the decision to remove MSG from local market has taken after considering it's impact to human health.

MSG widely used for preparing Korean,Japanese and Chinese cuisines and if consumed more than the required amount MSG may cause symptoms like  Headaches,Burning Sensations along the back of the neck ,chest tightness,nausea and sweating according to Medical Experts.

The food industry in foreign countries as well as in Sri Lankan using MSG to enhance meat and savoury flavors in food and it is widely added the savory prepared and processed foods like frozen foods,spice mixes ,salad dressings ,canned and dry soups and meat and fish based products .In some countries MSG used as a table top seasoning.according to experts.

Stop Burning The Forests To Protect Environment-Disaster Management Center

The Disaster Management Center has requested the Public to avoid burning forests in view of minimizing the damage done to the environment .

Due to the dry weather condition prevailing  in the country at present forest fires have occurred in most of the mountainous areas  including Hanthana the Center has stated.

TNA Parliamentary Group Conducted A Special Meeting To Disuses On Political Prisoners

The Parliamentarians representing Tamil National Alliance (TNA) had conducted a special meeting on Sunday(06) evening regarding the  Tamil Political Prisoners who are currently in prison  without filing legal cases against them.

The meeting was conducted under the patronage of TNA Leader and Leader of the Opposition R.Sambandhan.

During the discussion the TNA Parliamentary Group had decided to submit a proposal to Parliament regarding conducting a debate on Political Prisoners it has been revealed.

Thirteen Political Prisoners in Magazine Prison in Borella had launched a hunger strike since last month by demanding  the authorities to  file legal cases against them.

Ten Persons Were Arrested At Nivithigala For Involved In Illegal Excavation Of Gem Pits

The Police Special Task Force Officers in Kahawatte have arrested 10 persons who were involved in illegal excavation of gem pits at Doloswala Area in Nivithigala (In Ratnapura District) along with equipment which used for excavation .

The suspects were later handed over to the Gem and Jewelry Authority in Ratnapura for further investigations according to Police Task Force.
