Bribery Commission Officials To Visit Former President Rajapakshe To Record A Statement -Justice Minister

Amidst demonstrations of a group of Parliamentarians inside the Parliament House ,the Justice Minister Wijedasa Rajapakshe has announced today (21) at  Parliament that the Bribery Commission will not summon the  former President Mahinda Rajapakshe to the commission as earlier planned and instead of that the officials of the Bribery Commission will visit him and record a statement regarding the bribery allegations leveled against him .

Due to the heated words exchanged between government and opposition MP'S Speaker Chamal Rajapakshe had adjourned the sessions twice in the morning and evening for 15 minutes and 30 minutes respectively.

Meanwhile the a group of Opposition United Peoples Freedom Alliance(UPFA) Parliamentarians have staged their demonstration inside the parliament today as well while another group provincial councilors and supporters of former President Mahinda Rajapakshe had staged a protest near the Parliamentary Junction despite the court has banned conducting protest campaigns at the junction.

The Police have obtained a court order from the Kaduwela Magistrate Court to prevent holding such protest campaigns in front of the Parliamentary Junction.The court order has been read out to the protesters gathered at the junction  by the police officers .However the group of protesters have stayed there and shouted slogans against the bribery commission's decision to summon former president to the commission.

State Owned Sathosa Limited Has Earned Record breaking Profit During This New Year Season

The state owned Lanka Sathosa Limited has earned Rs.2.3 billion as the profit by selling consumer commodities during the Sinhala And Tamil New Year Season from 01st of April to 13th of April 2015 according to the Sathosa Chairman Kiran Atapattu."The profit earnings of Sathosa during  this new year season had increased by Rs.300 million when compared to the profit earnings of the same period last year Mr.Atapattu has said.

Lanka Sathosa has been established as a marketing chain throughout the island  to provide good quality  essential commodities to the consumers for reasonable prices.

Wesak Alms Giving Centers(Dansal) In Colombo City To Be Registered Before 30th Of April

The Colombo Public Health Department attach to the Colombo Municipal Council has decided to register all the Wesak Alms Giving Centers(Dansal) scheduled to be opened withing the Colombo City Limits during forthcoming Wesak Season in May.All the Organizers of these Alms Giving Centers are requested to fill a form available with  the  chief Public Health Inspector in Colombo Public Health Department and handover on or before 30th of this month.

The Registered Alms Giving Centers will receive a registration certificate from the public health department to keep with them during the period the centers are functioning.Most of the Wesak Alms Giving Centers are organized  in the City Of Colombo.

Those Alms Giving Centers which are not registered will be shut down with immediate effect according to the Colombo Chief Medical Officer Dr.Ruwan Wijemuni.The aim of this
programme is to ensure the providing of  quality food and drinks through these Wesak Alms Giving Centers Dr.Wijemuni has said.

Even if a registered Alms Giving Center found as serving  food or drinks which are not suitable for human consumption , a legal action will be taken against such centers under the food act he has stressed.

A Group Of Parliamentarians Demonstrated Inside The Parliament Against Bribery Commission's Decision

A Tense situation has occurred this morning at the Parliament as a group of Parliamentarians have sat on the house floor and started a demonstration against the Bribery Commission's decision to summon former president Mahinda Rajapaksha.

Parliamentarians attach to the United Peoples Freedom Alliance(UPFA) including Vasudeva Nanayakkare,Bandula Gunawardene,Mahindananda Aluthgamage,Rohitha Abegunawardene and Wimal Weerawansha have participated the demonstration which  disrupted the parliamentary proceedings.

Director General Of Bribery Commission Has Been Summoned In Parliament

The Director General of the Bribery Commission Dilrukshi Wikramasinha has been summoned in Parliament as to  inquire why the commission have summoned   former President Mahinda Rajapakshe to  the bribery commission  according to the deputy speaker Chandima Weerakody.Speaker Chamal Rajapakshe has also due to make a special statement to the Parliament tomorrow(21) regarding this matter he has said.

The former President Rajapakshe has been informed to appear before the bribery commission on 24th of April regarding an allegation leveled against him over offering a bribe.His brother and the former Defense Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksha has been also informed to be appeared before the bribery commission on 23rd and 27th of April.
