Parliament Has Approved Three Month Leave Period For MP Basil Rajapakshe

The Parliament has today(18) granted the MP of the former government and the former national organizer of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, Basil Rajapakshe a three months  leave due to his stay in United States Of America.MP Rajapakshe who is also the younger brother of the former President Mahinda Rajapakshe had left for USA soon after the conclusion of announcing results of the Presidential Elections on 09th of January.

Opposition Leader Nimal Siripala Silva has presented the leave proposal for MP Basil Rajapakshe which was approved by the house.MP Rajapakshe whom the majority of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and the former coalition government of United Peoples Freedom Alliance have blamed for the defeat of former President, has also faced corruption charges..He is due to be questioned through the International Police ,INTERPOL.on his involvement of signing  several corrupted mega deals  for the former government .

MP Basil Rajapakshe who was the Minister of Economic Development of the previous government has also charged for attempting to bribe the public by distributing various items including clocks with printed pictures of former president mahinda rajapkshe during the recently concluded presidential election campaign.

New Army Commander Has Been Appointed

Major General Jagath Rambukpotha has been appointed as the new Army Commander with effect from 22nd of of February.He will be replaced the current Army Commander Daya Ratnayake who is due to be retired on 21st of February.

Sri Lanka And India To Strengthen Defense Corporation

Sri Lanka and India had agreed to strengthen their corporation in Defense and solving the fishermen issue affected to both countries  during the bi lateral talks held between the visiting Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena and Indian Prime Minister Narendre Modi today(16)  in New Delhi .

While addressing the press after the talks the Indian Prime Minister Narendre Modi has said that India will encourage the fishermen associations in both Sri Lanka and India to meet and find a solution for the problem.

Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisene has arrived New Delhi this morning for a short official visit.

Frosts Appeared In Nuwara Eliya District Due To The Low Temperature

Frosts have been appeared in Several Areas in the Nuwara Eliya District today(16) as the temperature has fell to 5.2 Degrees Celsius according to the Meteorology Department.Due to the wind blows from Northern India the ground level temperature in most parts of the Nuwara Eliya District have down to 0.1 degrees Celsius this morning the department has announced.

Eighteen Higher Army Officers Have Been Transferred With Immediate Effect

The Army Commander Daya Ratnayake had transferred Eighteen Higher Officers attach to the Sri Lanka Army including Fifteen Major Generals and Three Brigadiers  with immediate effect  it has been announced this evening.

Several key positions in the Army including the Security Forces Commanders in     Jaffna,Wanni,Eastern and Central Provinces have been subjected to change soon the sources said.Some Major Generals holds key Army Positions have been already transferred to the Army Headquarters.

Meanwhile recently reinstated Major General Mahesh Senanayake who was sacked from his post during the previous regime due to his support to the Former Army Commander General Sarath Fonseka in the 2010 Presidential Elections has been appointed as the Military Secretary.

Archeology Officers Have Arrested A Woman For Trying To Damage Sigiriya Frescoes.

The Archaeology Department Officers have arrested a 27 year old Batticloe Resident female on attempting to damage historical Sigiriya Frescoes by trying to carving her name on a fresco by using a hair pin. The Archaeology Officers have arrested the said woman and handed her to the Sigiriya Police the sources said.

The woman said to be visited Sigiriya with
few of her friends.
