Sri Lanka Freedom Party Has Divided In To Two Factions Over The Party Leadership Issue

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party(SLFP) which both the current President Maithripala Sirisena and former President Mahinda Rajapaksha representing has divided today in to two factions over the issue of appointing the new president of the party .

During the General Assembly held this evening  more then 20 members out of the 42 member general assembly have decided to give the presidency to the current President Sirisena who was also the former secretary to the party while other members wanted former President Mahinda Rajapaksha to be appointed to the post.

Under the party constitution the if a member of the party has elected as the country's president he or she should automatically becomes the party president.If the candidate has loose the elections he or she will loose the party presidency also.

However a group of more than 20 SLFP members have announced that the current president sirisena has been elected as the new president of the party while the secretary of the SLFP Anura Priyadarshana Yapa has announced that the general assembly of the party has elected former president Rajapaksha as  president of the party.Sri Lanka Freedom Party was formed by former Sri Lankan Premier Late S.W.R.D Bandaranaike.

LTTE'S Chief Arms Prosecutor KP May Have Fled The Country-Government

The Chief Arms Prosecutor and current leader of the LTTE ,Kumaran Pathamantahan alias KP has may have fled the country  the New Government has announced .Addressing the media in Colombo MP Dr.Rajitha Senaratne has said that KP who is a criminal wanted by India in connection with the assassination of their former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi might be escaped through the VIP Lounge of Katunayake ,BAndaranaike International Air Port .

The government has been launched an investigation on KP  MP Senaratne has further said.KP was arrested and brought down from Malaysia by the former president Rajapakhe's Administration and he was in under government's protection till the Presidential Elections.

Meanwhile it has been reported that the Police Intelligence Officers have informed Air Port Authorities to be in alert on two powerful politicians and  a Criminal  who will trying to escape through VIP lounge in wake of the defeat of Former President Mahinda Rajapakshe.

Heads Of Three Key Institutes In The Country Tendered Their Resignations

Soon after the new President Maithrpala Sirisena has assumed his duties in his post heads of the  three key Local Institutions including the Governor Of the Central Bank  have  resigned from their posts with immediate effect.

According to the sources the Governor Of The Central Bank Ajith Nivad Cabraal ,the Chairman Of the Sri Lanka Securities And Exchange Commission Dr.Nalake Godahewa and the Chairman Of Lanka Hospitals Corporation PLC (Formerly Appolo Hospitals)and former Defense Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksha have   tendered their resignations.

Meanwhile MP Dr.Harsh De Silva has told the media that the former Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivad Cabral should answer to the nation on few deals and why manipulating figures of National Economy and Stock Exchange during recent years.

Maithripala Sirisena Has Sworn In As The New President

Mr.Maithripala Sirisena has sworn in as the new Sri Lankan Executive President this evening at the Independence Square,Colombo-07 amidst a large gathering .The new President has took oath on his Post before the most senior Judge in the Supreme Court Justice K.Sripavan .

After President has sworn in the main opposition leader and the leader of the United National Party Ranil Wikramasinha has sworn in as the new Prime Minister before the new President .

After the  swear in Ceremony the new president has addressed the nation and stated  that he will implement the one hundred day plan presented through  his election manifesto on abolishing the executive presidency and restore Parliamentary governing system in the country.He has also assured that he will not contesting a Presidential Election in future .

A large gathering including politicians ,religious clergy and people were present on this occasion.

Final Results Of The Presidential Elections 2015

The Newly President Elect Maithripala Sirisena has received 51.28% of the total number of votes casted in Yesterday's Presidential Elections with total number of 6,217,162 votes while his main contender former President Mahinda Rajapksha has been received 47.58% of the votes with 5,768,090 votes according to the final results.

A total number of 19 candidates including 2 independent candidates have been contested in this Presidential Elections and other 17 candidates had received 138,201 votes which was 1.14% of the total number of votes casted.

President Elect To Be Sworn In This Evening

The newly President Elect Maithripala Sirisena is scheduled to be sworn in as the Ninth Executive President in Democratic Socialist Republic Of  Sri Lanka this evening.The President Elect who hailed from Polonnaruwa District of North Central Province has been officially declared as the new president by the Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya this noon.

At a function held at the Election Secretariat at Rajagiriya attended by all the Presidential Candidates contested in Presidential Elections held yesterday(08).this noon soon after the conclusion of issuing election results the Elections Commissioner has said that Mr.Sirisena is the new president elect as he has received 51.28% of the total number of votes casted in yesterday's election.

Other main contender the former President Mahinda Rajapksha has received 47.58% of the total number of votes.However the former president did not attend  the function held at the Elections Secretariat to announce the newly President Elect.

Meanwhile it has been reported that the President Elect Maithripala Sirisena will not be sworn in before the Chief Justice Mohan Pieris but will sworn in before a senior judge in Supreme Court.
According to the article 32(1) of the  current  Constitution the newly elected President should be sworn in before the Chief Justice or any judge of  the Supreme Court.Almost all the  opposition parties in the country are against the sacking of former Chief Justice Dr.Mrs.Shirani Bandaranaike on false charges by the administration of Former President Rajapaksha and appointing the present Chief Justice Mohan Pieirs.
