Treasury Has Increased Taxes Imposed On Certain Cars And Tri Shaws

The Treasury has increased the total taxes on Cars below 1000 CC ,1000-1600 CC and Tri Shaws with effect from 21st of April .

According to this tax increase total taxes imposed on Cars below 1000 CC increased from 95 to 120 percent ,for 1000-1600 CC to be increased from 119 to 128 percent and taxes on tri shaw by 38 to 50 percent the treasury has announced.However the total taxes on all the petrol and diesal cars above 1600 CC will not subjected for increase according to the Department of Customs.

Heavy Showers To Continue Till Mid Of May?


The Adverse Weather Pattern with heavy showers prevails in the country these days will last till mid of May according to the Sri Lanka Meteorological Department.

The inter monsoon conditions have been caused the present weather pattern and an evening thunder showers will continue in most parts of the country while morning showers will occurred mainly in Southern and Western parts of the country during next few days with low level disturbance according to the Meteorologists.Also Northern and Eastern Parts of the country too will experienced heavy showers during next few days they said.

Meanwhile gates of Ten Tanks and Reservoirs had been opened today by the Irrigation Department as a result of the heavy showers.

Sri Lankan Pace Bowler Malinga To Retire From Test Cricket Citing Knee Injury- But Plays Luxurious IPL Tournment In India

Sri Lanka's Opening Pace Bowler Lasith Malinga has decided to  retire from Test Cricket due to a knee injury according to the Media Reports.However according to the the Secretary of the Sri Lankan Interim Cricket Board Nishantha Ranatunge, Malinga has still not informed the Cricket Board on his decision to retire from Test Cricket.

Pace Bowler Malinga who is widely known internationally as "Sling Shot Malinga" due to his extra ordinary bowling action has said although he is retiring from test cricket he will be available for ODI'S and T20 Games.He further added that his physical health is fine and only worry is the knee injury from which he is suffering since few years back which needs to manage carefully for his future cricketing career.

Malinga took 101 Test Wickets from 30 Test Matches he played so far.

Although Malinga talks on his knee injury he is currently playing for the Indian Premier League got under way in India  and representing "Mumbai Indians" Team owned by Indian Business Tycoon Mukesh Ambani.Malinga is also the leading wicket taker of the IPL by claiming 13 wickets from 5 matches he played so far.

3784 Dengue Patients Were Reported In The Island This Year

During the January to Mid April this year 3784 Dengue Patients were reported from the Island and 32 Patients had died according to the  Epidemeology Unit of Sri Lankan.

Out of the total number of dengue patients reported from the island 1273 patients are from the Colombo District and 441 were from Gamapha District .During the first fifteen days of the Month of April 716 Dengue Patients were reported from the Country according to the Epidemeologists.

The Epidemeologists appealed the people to destroy Dengue Mosquito Breading Places and clean their enviornment to prevent a possible Dengue Out Break during this monsoon season.

Sixty One Percent Of Country's HIV Positives Reported From Western Province-Health Minister

According to the Health Minister Maithrepala Sirisena 61 percent of the Country's HIV Positives are reported from the Western Province where 33 percent of the local population reside in.'This is something special as most of the HIV Postives  are reported from urban cities rather then from rural areas"The Minister has stressed.

According to the Helath Minister due to the good behavioral pattern prevails in rural areas with the cultural impact the rural areas still protective from the diseases like HIV/AIDS.

Minister made these remarks during the launching ceremony of the "Global Funds Finnancial Assistance to the National STS/AIDS Control Programme for HIV/AIDS Prevention work for a five year period Term' held at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute in Colombo.Under this Programme the global fund donate US Dollers 12 million for the HIV Prevention work in Sri Lanka.

Bakers Increased The Price Of Bread

The Sri Lanka Baker's Association has today decided to increase the price of Bread Loaf by Rs 2.00 with the effect from midnight tonight.This price increase will be made according to the price increase made by Prima Company on Wheat Flour by Rs.4.10 per Kilo Gramme.

According to the Association the Bakers also agreed to increase the prices of other Bakery Products as well in coming days.

A 50 Percent Increase Of The Malaria Patients Arriving Sri Lanka From India And Africa

There is a 50 percent increase of the Malaria Patients arriving  Sri Lanka  from the Malaria hit India and African Countries according to the Sri Lanka Anti Malaria Campaign.Compared to the number of Malaria patients arrived in the year 2009 there is a 50 percent increase in 2010 the Malaria Campaign said.

Addressing a Media Seminar held in Colombo today regarding the World Malaria Day falls on 25th of April the Malarialogist attached to the Malaria Campaign Dr.G.N.L Galappatti has said that around 52 Malaria Patients arrived Sri Lanka last year(2010) alone.More then 15 percent of the Malaria Patients reported from Sri Lanka are got the disease while in a foreign country she stressed.

To prevent the spreading of Malaria through those who arrived from India and African Countries Sri Lankans and other foreign nationals who are visiting these countries should take malaria treetment as well as when they have returned to the country Dr.Galappatti said.According to her Since the year 2006 less then 1000 Malaria Patients are reported annually from Sri Lanka and the Anti Malaria is aiming to eliminate the Disease from Sri Lanka by the year 2015.Since the year 2008 no Malaria Deaths have been reported from the Country Dr.Galapppati has said.

In last year around 684 Malaria Patients mainly from the Northern Provinces of Kilinochchi,Mannar,Vavuniya,Mulativu and Monaragala have been reported and out of this number 66 percent were from Tri Forces and 34 percent were civilians.
