Sri Lankan War Hero And Chief Of Defense Staff Handed Over His Resignation Letter

Sri Lankan War Hero and Chief of Defense Staff General Sarath Fonseka today(12) handed over his resignation letter to the President Mahinda Rajapaksha adding fuel to the Rumour spreading that he is to enter politics and contesting the forthcoming Presidential Elections as the Common Candidate of the Joint Opposition Alliance.


However  speeking to the Journalists this evening at the Kalaniya Temple where he was attended a Relegious Ceremony General Fonseka said that he will make an announcement whether he is entering to Politics after giving up his Army Uniform on 01st of December.

The 12 Party Joint Opposition Alliance formed last week led by the main Opposition the United National Party(UNP) has alraeady announced that Major Fonseka as their Common Candidate for the Presidency with the aim of abolishing the Current Executive Presidancy.

Meanwhile The Secretary to the President Mr.Lalith Weerathunga confirmed this evening that General Fonseka Handed over his Resignation letter but denied to express further details on the letter.However it has been reported that General Fonseka who is Former Army Commander led the Military Victory Over the LTTE is seeking retirement from his Post on 01st of December.

General Fonseka also said during his visit to the Kelaniya Temple this evening that during his career he served for the people and even after retiring from the Service he is willing to Continue that.He was attended a Defense Committee Meeting held at Temple Trees today and also had a Lunch with the President Rajapaksha.He was also present at the Official Welcoming Ceremony held this morning in Colombo to Welcome Visiting Military Leader of the Myanmar General Than Schwe .

General Fonseka cut his visit to United States Of America last week and returned to the Country after the United States State Department tried to get a comment from him against the Sri Lankan Government.

Government Employees Launched A Work To Rule Campaign

The work at the Ceylon Petroleum,Water,Electricity and the Sri Lanka Ports Autority sectors not seriously affected due to the 3 day Work To Rule Camapign launched by a Joint Trade Union Alliance today.The Trade Unions of these Sectors are demanding Rs, 5000 Salary Increase.

Meanwhile the Government has already promised the Trade Unions a 22 Percent Pay hike with the Effect from November on January which the Trade Unions are refused  to accept.

Matara MOH Office Workers To Quit National Immunization Programme

All the Staff including the Doctors attached to Matara MOH Office at the Southern Province decided not to involve in Vaccination Programmes conducted under the National Immunization Programme as protest of issuing Charge  Sheets for them on  Rubella Death happened in last March at Matara District.

Under this action MOH Staff is decided to stay away from the Vaccination Programme including Polio,Triple and Meninjitis.The Health Ministry Secretary Dr.Athula Kahanda Liyanage issued Charge Sheets for the Matara MOH Staff asking Show Cause on the Death of the 13 year old School Girl who died after administering Rubella Vaccine.

Legendary Actor Henry Jayasena Passed Away

Sri Lankan Legendary T.V ,Drama and Cinema Actor Henry Jayasena was passed away this noon at the Kalubowila Teaching Hospital in Colombo after brief illness.He was 78 years old at the time of his death and he was a very Famous celebrity in Sri Lanka for his contribution to making of the Famous Satge Drama  "Hunuwataye Katawa" which is based on the "Caucasian Chalk Circle" of  Bertolt Brecht.He also portrayed the role of  Asadak in the Play.


He acted so many famous classical Films in 1960's as well as Stage Dramas and Tele Dramas till his death.He was survived by his only son.

Accused Blood Bank Employees Given Concession


The 38 Blood Bank Employees including their Former Director who are charged with issuing Expired Blood Plasma Pherasis and A Pherasis Kits to the Government Hospitals are given another concession this time received an extra one month Period  to give Show Cause on the Charges leveled against them.But under the Law the Accused have been receiving Two Week Period for providing Show Cause for the Charges.

Earlier these Accused Blood Bank Employees only received two week period for the Show Cause but it has extended for another two weeks on their request.Later again they were allowed another One Month Period for the Show Cause which is an unusual kind of practice adapted by the Health Ministry Officials.Already the Four Employees including the Formar Blood Bank Director Dr.Mangalika Bindusara who faced a Service Ban already re instated in their formar Positions.

Petroleum,Water,Electricity And Ports Employees To Launch Work To Rule Campaign From Tomorrow


While the Government agreed for  a 22 Percent Pay Hike to be pay from Next January for the Employees of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation,Water Board,Electricity Board and the Sri Lanka Ports Authority the Trade Unions of these Institutions refused the offer and  decided to go ahead with the scheduled three day Work To Rule Campaign begin from tomorrow(11).

During the Talks held between the Join Trade Unions of the above Institutions and the Treasury Secretary Dr.P.B Jayasundara on yesterday it has been proposed a 22 Percent Pay Hike for these Employees with the effect from this November and to be pay on Next January.However the Trade Unions participated to talks are refusing it and the Talks proved to be failure at the end.The Trade Unions representing Ceylon Petroleum,Water Board,Electricity Board and Ports Authority today announced that they will launch the three day work to rule campaign from tomorrow.

Sri Lanka And Australia Signed An Agreement To Combat Human Smuggling

Sri Lanka and Australia today signed an Agreement in Colombo to Jointly Fight against Human Smuggling.The Agreement signed between the Sri Lankan Officials along with the Visiting Australian Foreign Minister Stephan Smith and the Agreement proposed to set up a National Level Focal Point in Sri Lanka to deal with Human Smuggling.
