Mahela And Thilan Broken The Fifty Two Year Old Record Of The Fourth Wicket Partnership



Sri Lankan Cricket Captain Mahela Jayawardene and Thilan Samaraweera to day broken the fifty two year old fourth wicket partnership of 411 runs at a Test Match set by Peter May and Sir Colon Cowdrey of England in 1957.Mahela and Thilan put 437 runs for the fourth wicket at the second day of their First Test Match with Pakistan at Karachchi National Stadium and spared 643 balls and 450 minutes to reached it.

Previous fourth wicket partnership record between May and Sir Cowdery in 1957 was set against the West Indies at Edgbeston.


Captain Mahela contributed 240 runs for the partnership and it was his fifth double century and first one at a foreign soil.Thilan contributed 231 runs.Earlier the pair broken the highest fourth wicket partnership of 298 runs recorded in Karachchi National Stadium which they are playing now by any team.

With the help of this duo Sri Lanka reached 644 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in their first innings and declared the innings shortly after the Tea Break.At the close of play Pakistan were 44 runs for the loss of 1 wicket.

LTTE Killed Ten Chena Cultivators And Injured Dozens In Ampara District


Ten Chena Cultivators killed and dozens injured after LTTE Cadres attacked to a group of Chena Cultivators in Iginiyagala of the Ampara District yesterday.They were attacked while working in their fields.

LTTE Air Attack To Colombo A Suicide Mission-Sri Lankan Air Commander


Sri Lankan Air Commander Air Marshal Rohan Goonathilake refers the air attack carried out by the LTTE last friday was a suicide mission and a attempt similar to the 2001 September 11 World Trade Center attack in New York. LTTE pilots brought around 250 Kilo Grammes of Explosives for the Mission he urged.The Explosives including the Bombs sticked to the bodies of the LTTE Pilots luckily not exploded and it prevents a huge Disaster according to the Air Commander.It is revealed that one of the two Air Crafts came for the attack carried 130 Killos of Explosives.
The Magisterial Inquiry on the Crashed LTTE Air Craft in to the Katunayaka Area held yesterday and the samples were taken from the body of the deceased Pilot of the craft for DNA Test to identify whether he is a Sri Lankan or not.
Meanwhile the Sri Lankan government says the activities of the damaged Inland Revenue Department will commence soon.

GMOA Prevented a Docs Strike In Vavuniya Hospital

Government Medical Officers Association(GMOA) of sri lanka to day prevented a possible strike action of the doctors attached to the vavuniya general hospital in the northern sri lanka citing the present conflict situation prevailing there.all fifty doctors in the hospital earlier planned to stage a walkout opposing the administration of the hospital director but reduced that action to a one hour protest campaign after GMOA intervened to the scene.According to the assistant secretery of the GMOA dr.upul gunasekera his union held discussions with the docs there this morning and urged them to prevent any inconveniences to the people in the area.At present large number of civilian and forces casualties are dispatch to the vavuniya hospital.

UN Under Secretary General Urged LTTE To Refrain From Shooting Civilians


The visiting under secretary general of the united nations sir john holmes urged LTTE to avoid civilian casualties and allow civilians to move into safer areas.Speaking at colombo this morning he says that the LTTE should refrain from shooting on civilians.sir holmes is in colombo on an invitation from the sri lankan foreign minister rohitha bogollagama. he also met defense secretary gotabaya rajapaksha at his ministry.

Eighteen Thousand Pethidine Vials Are Air Lifted To Ease Severe Shortage Of The Injection


Ministry of Health to day air lifted 18,000 vials of essential pain killer injection "pethidine" from India which is currently not available in government hospitals .Although  this stock is much lesser then the annual requirement it will help to ease the shortage for few months ministry officials said. shortage of pethidine vials have occurred after the medical supplies division removed large number of expired pethidine vials from the government hospitals on end of January.due to the shortage of this injection wounded patients and pregnant mothers are facing difficulties hospital sources said.there was much controversy on the shortage of this injection among doctors and even health minister to day announced in parliament that pethidine shortage will be ended after these air lifted vials are distributed to the hospitals
.
Hospital doctors charged that some kind of irregularity had happened when purchasing this injection as the ministry has  imported large number of pethidine vials exceeds the required amount.

Around One Thousand One Hundrad Fifty IDP'S Admitted To Hospitals Due To Infections


Around 1150 In displaced People(IDP'S) who were returned from rebel held areas hospitalized due to the infections they are having Ministry of Health says to day.these people were admitted to five hospitals including trincomalee and vavuniya general hospitals.around 15 small children were treated for their infections at the colombo lady ridgway hospital and they are now recovered fully according to the hospital doctors.
For providing maximum security and treatment facilities to these in displaced persons the resident patients of trincomalee and vavuniya hospitals are to transfered to near by hospitals.Health ministry to day decided to send around 1500 nursing students who are to received the appointments as nurses shortly to the centers where IDP'S are staying.
