The Prices Of Cigarette ,Beer And Hard Liquors Have Been Increased With Effect From Today

The prices of Cigarettes,Beer and Hard Liquors have been increased with effect from today(03) according to the Ministry Of Finance.

According to the new price increase the price of a Gold Leaf Cigarette has been increased by Rs.3 and the price of a Soft Beer (Alcohol less than 5%) has been increased by Rs.40 per liter  from Rs.150 to Rs.190  and the other Beer including Alcohol level more than 5% has been increased by Rs.60 from Rs.185 to  Rs.245.

The excise duty of molasses and  Local Coconut Arrack will be increased by Rs.110 from Rs.1485 to Rs.1595 per proof liter and accordingly the price of a Coconut Arrack may be increased by Rs.60.

The excise duty of country made foreign liquor has been increased by Rs.160 from Rs.1700 to Rs.1860 and accordingly the price of a country made foreign liquor bottle may be increased by Rs.125.

Kokmaduwa-Imaduwa Section Of Southern Expressway Has Opened Again

The kokmaduwa-imaduwa section of Southern Expressway which closed down twice since last night due to the bad weather has been opened for motorists from this evening again.

firstly the Kokamaduwa- Imaduwa section of Southern Expressway was closed down last night due to the bad weather prevailed at that time and  the risk of an earth slip near 114 kilo meter post of the expressway.Then again that section was opened for motorists since this morning and few hours later  the section was closed down.

However as the weather  improved the kokmaduwa -imaduwa section of Southern Expressway has been opened again this evening for motorists.

The section between Kokmaduwa and Imaduwa near 114 kilo meter post of Southern Expressway has been closed this morning second time since yesterday (01) due to the risk of an earth slips according to Road Developemnt Authority(RDA).The section was closed last night also due to bad weather and it was reopned around 6.30 a.m this morning.

However due to the bad weather prevails in the Kokmaduwa-Imaduwa section of Southern Expressway has been again closed down this morning.

Earlier the Disaster Management Center has issued warning to motorists using Southern Expressway to be on alert as there's a risk of an earsthslip near 114 kilo meter post of the expressway.

Dengue Update-During First Nine Months Of This Year 20,457 Dengue Patients And 36 Dengue Deaths Have Been Reported-National Dengue Control Programme

During first nine months  (January to September) of this year 20,457 Dengue Patients and 36 Dengue Deaths have been reported from the Island according to the Director Of National  Dengue Control Campaign Dr.Hasitha Thissera.

Addressing a press briefing of Ministry Of Health held yesterday(01) at Government Information Department in Narahenpita(In Colombo District) Dr.Tissera has said  majority of the Dengue Patients  reported  this year up to now were from Colombo District with 6517 Patients.Out of the 36  dengue deaths reported this year 15 were reported from Colombo District Dr.Tisssera has stressed.

During the national mosquito control week which held last month around 567, 000 premises were inspected and 21.21% of these premises were identified as risky places which dengue mosquitoes can breed  and 2.87% were identified as dengue mosquito breeding places.

.During the forthcoming North Eastern Monsoon Rainy Season the spreading of Dengue may have increased in most parts of the country and people should be on alert on this situation the National Dengue Control Progtamme Director has further said.

US Sponsored Resolution On Sri Lanka Adapted In UN Human Rights Council Summit in Geneva

The US Sponsored Resolution on Sri Lanka-L29  ,entitled as   "Promoting Reconciliation,Accountability and Human Rights In Sri Lanka was adapted today(01) without a vote by consensus at the United Nations Human Rights Council Summit held in Geneva,Switzerland.

This Resolution was co sponsored by the Sri Lankan Government with 25 additional co sponsors including USA and UK .The resolution encourages the establishment of Sri Lankan Judicial Mechanism to investigate the allegations of violations,abuse of human rights  and violations of an International Humanitarian Law.

The proposed mechanism of US backed Resolution will include commonwealth and other foreign judges,authorized prosecutors, investigators and defense lawyers.

State Pharmaceuticals Corporation Destroys Rs.300 Million Worth Drugs Annually -Health Minister

The State Pharmaceuticals Corporation(SPC) destroys around Rs.300 Million worth Medicinal Drugs annually as the  validity of which has expired according to Minister Of Health ,Nutrition And Indigenous Medicine Dr.Rajitha Senaratne.

These medicinal drugs which are identified as non essential drugs imported for government hospitals and State Owned Pharmacies(Osu Sal) are  being expired at the stores Dr.Senaratne has said."We are trying to correct this situation as a large sum of money annually wasted for importing these non essential drugs over the past years.However still the officials of SPC haven't done anything to correct this situation "He has stressed.

CID Has Requested Minuwangoda Magistrate To Drop Charges Against First Two Suspects Of Five Year Old Girl's Murder

The Criminal Investigation Department(CID) has today(01) requested the Minuwangoda Magistrate to drop  charges against the first two suspects who are in remand in connection with rape and murder of five year old Seya Sadewmini of Kotadeniyawa as the DNA found in girl's body does not match with these suspects.

The DNA Test Reports of the two suspects of the case ,a 17 year old school boy and another resident in kotadeniyawa area have been handed over to the Minuwangoda Magistrate yesterday(01).

The DNA Test Report of the main suspect of  girl's murder "Kondaya" who is in remand has not yet issued.

Meanwhile the case filed against the first two suspects of  girl's rape and murder  is due to be summoned at Minuwangoda Magistrate Court tomorrow(02).

The DNA Test Reports of first two suspects of the murder case ,17 year old School Boy and another resident of Kotadeniyawa Area have been handed over under this by CID Officers in Negambo according to sources.

The court case filed on the murder of  five year old girl is due to be summoned this Friday at Minuwangoda Magistrate Court.

The two suspects have been produced before the Negambo Judicial Medical Officer(JMO) today for a medical examination as they have complained to the Court that Police Officers have assaulted them Whilst in remand.

New Reforms To Be Introduced To Increase Female Representation In Local Politics-Prime Minister Wikramasinghe

Colombo High Court Has Sentenced Two LTTE Suspects Of Town Hall Blast In 1999, 290 And 300 Year Rigorous Imprisonment

court order க்கான பட à®®ுடிவுThe Colombo High Court has today(30) sentenced the two main LTTE Suspects V.Vradaraja and C.I Ragupathy who found guilty for the Town Hall Suicidal Bomb Blast occurred in 1999 ,a rigorous imprisonment of 290 and 300 years respectively to be served in 30 years .

The Suicidal Bomb Blast occurred in 1999 at an election rally held in Town Hall killed 22 persons including two camera assistants attach to electronic media and injured many including former president Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunge who lost the sight of  one of her  eyes due to the blast.

However the third suspect Wasanthi Ragupathy  has been released due to lack of evidence against her .The Attorney General had acquitted 190 charges against the main suspects.

Around 2500 Breast Cancer Patients Are Being Identified Annually In Sri Lanka And 800 Of Them Die-Dr.Mahipala

Around 2500 Breast Cancer Patients are being identified annually from Sri Lanka and 800 of them die due to the identification of the disease at later stage according to Director General Of Health Services Dr.Palitha Mahipala.

The majority of the Breast Cancer Patients identified from Sri Lanka are elderly females and the disease amongst the younger females here are also on the increase Dr.Mahipala has stressed.

Even the Breast Cancer amongst males too are on the increase and due to this fact males too should be on alert on the disease Local Oncologists have stated.

In the globe around 1.8 million Breast Cancer Patients are being identified annually according to the statistics.

If there is a a suspicious symptom/symptoms related to Breast Cancer the patient should seek medical advise without any delay Oncologists have said."People can visit one of the  324 "Suwa Nari" clinics Which providing testing facilities of breast cancer free of charge ,functioned at MOH(Medical Officer On Health) Offices throughout the island every Saturday" and check their status of the disease they have said.
