Sri Lankan Air Lines Hostess Was Killed And Three Others Injured On An Accident In Doha

A Sri Lankan  Air Lines Air Hostess was killed and three other Sri Lankan Air Lines staff members,  two flight attendants and an Air  Hostess got injured when the vehicle they were traveled in on Desert Safari met with an accident in Doha,Qatar yesterday (30).

The Air Line Hostess that killed was identified as the Ms.Ammendra De Kauwe reside in Raddolugama ,Colombo.The injured Air Line Staff Members are reported as out of danger.There were six passengers including Ms.Kauwe onboard the Jeep at the time of the accident,

Most Senior Judge In The Supreme Court Sripavan Sworn In As New Chief Justice

The most senior judge in the Supreme Court K.Sripavan has sworn in as the new Chief Justice in Sri Lanka before President Maithripala Sirisena at the Presidential Secretariat this evening.The New Chief Justice was appointed after the 43rd Chief Justice Dr.Mrs,Shirani Bandaranaike's has retired from the post yesterday almost one day after she was reinstated as the Chief Justice.

Chief Justice Sripavan was an old boy of Jaffna Hindu Collage.President Maithripala Sirisena was sworn in his post before him on 10th of January soon after elected as the new president of Sri Lanka.

Former Chief Justice Dr.Shirani Bandaranaike was given a grand farewell by lawyers and staff of the Hulftsdorf Court Complex yesterday as she retired from the post at the age of 56.

Sri Lankans Applying For Dual Citizenship Here To Pay Rs.500,000 Fee-Finance Minister

Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake has yesterday (29) announced at Parliament during his presentation of the Interim Budget -2015, that all Sri Lankans who are applying for Dual Citizenship here should pay Rs.500,000 per individual request.All Sri Lankans living in selected countries can apply for the dual citizenship and it will be granted after due evaluation he has said.

Furthermore government has decided to make special provisions for Foreigners who are seeking resident status in Sri Lanka and in a position to invest US Dollars 10 Million in the country.The visa fee for such foreigners is fixed as Rs.2.5 million and all such applications need to be approved through the Defense Ministry.Those who are receiving the resident status need to renew their status for every 5 years the Finance Minister said.

People Have Received Benefits From The Interim Budget

*Salaries of the State Sector Employees Increased by Rs.10,000 

*Prices of 13 Essential Items to be reduced with immediate effect 

*Mahapola Scholarship Allowance  of University Students increased to Rs.5000

*Pensions of State Sector Employees increased by Rs.1000

 *Sri Lankan and Mihin Air Lines to be Merged

*Marriage Registration Fees reduced to Rs.1000 from Rs.5000

*Public Transportation Costs of Senior Citizens to be reduced by 50%

*Money allocated for activities of Presidential Secretariat To be Reduced

 are among the major proposals of the much awaited Interim Budget which was presented today(29) to the Parliament by Finance Minister of the new government Ravi Karaunanayake.


Under the Interim Budget  described  by many as a Peoples friendly Budget  the prices of 13 essential items are due to be reduced with immediate effect.They are  Prices of 400 grams of Milk Powder to be reduced by Rs.61,Sugar By Rs.10 per Killo,Wheet Flour by Rs.12.50 per Killo,Bread by Rs.6,Canned Fish by Rs.50,Coriander By Rs.46 to 20 per per Kilo,Chili  Powder by Rs.25 per Kilo,Sprats by Rs.26 per Kilo,LP Gas by Rs.300 per 12.5 KG (New price will be R.1500),Mung Been by Rs.40 per kilo,Maldive Fish by Rs.200 per Kilo,Turmeric by Rs.100 per kilo,Sustagen Milk Powder by Rs.100 per 400 grams.

The Salaries of the  state sector employees to be increased by Rs.10,000 (By Rs.5000 from February this year and by Rs.5000 from June)-Private Sector will be encouraged to increase the salaries of their employees by Rs.2500..


Among other proposals in the Interim Budget are as follows

*Imposing Rs.1000 Million Tax on Casinos
 *Reducing the Import Tax imposed on Vehicles with less than 1000cc Engine capacity,

Sacked Chief Justice Dr.Shirani Bandaranaike Has Been Reinstated In The Post

Sri Lanka's 43rd Chief Justice Dr.Shirani Bandaranaike who has been removed from her post through  an illegal impeachment motion presented to the Parliament by previous government  has been reinstated today (28) by the President Maithripala Sirisena.Before Dr.Bandaranaike has reinstated as the Chief Justice  the previous Chief Justice Mohan Pieris has been removed by the President through a letter sent to him.

The lawyers attach to Bar Association Of Sri Lanka have been protested in front of Hulftsdorf Court Complex since this morning by demanding the Former Chief Justice Pieris to resign from his post.However as he was not responded positively to the requests of both lawyers and the government ,President Sirisena has intervened to the matter  and reinstated the sacked Chief Justice Dr.Shirani Bandaranaike in the post and informed her on that from a letter.President has  sent another letter  to the Mohan Pieris who was appointed illegally to the Chief Justice Post by stating that he has been removed from the post due to the illegal procedure adapted when appointing him.

After received the President's letter Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranaike has resumed her duties in her post this noon amidst greetings from lawyers who were gathered in front of Hulftsdorf Court Complex.

The Chief Justice has announced that she will be retired from her post tomorrow(29)..

Group Of Lawyers Conducted A Protest Campaign At Hulftsdorf Court Complex

A group of lawyers attach to the Bar Association Of Sri Lanka were conducted a protest campaign infront of the Hulftsdorf Court Complex this morning demanding the resignation of Chief Justice Mohan Pieris.

The Lawyers of the Bar Association as well as the present government have demanding the C hief Justice continuously during past few weeks to step down from his post as his appointment proved as illegal. The former Attorney General Mohan Pieris has been appointed as the Sri Lankan Chief Justice by the previous government of former President Mahinda Rajapaksha after sacked former Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranaike from the post.

It has been reported that the Chief Justice Pieris had requested from the government to offer him a diplomatic post in a foreign country as a condition to step down from his post.He has also charged for being attended Temple Treas in the eve of the Election Day on 08th of January where an alleged coup attempt was launched.

Attorney General To Appear Before Court Of Appeal On 05th Of Feberuary

The Attorney General was today(27) noticed to appear before Court Of Appeal on 05th of February regarding the Writ Application filed by the Propaganda Secretary of the leftist Janatha Wimukthi Peramuna(JVP) Vijitha Herath requesting the arrest of former Chief Arms Prosecutor Kumaran Pathmanathan allias KP.

The Court Of Appeal has decided to check the investigations  carried out so far  by the Army and the Police regarding the allegations level

Twenty Nine Foreign Diplomats Recalled -Fresh Appointments To Be Made

The Government has recalled around 29 Foreign  Diplomats who were political appointees  to  the country with immediate effect.According to the Ministry Of External Affairs most of these Diplomats are relatives and close associates who did not even meet required qualification to be in foreign service.

Even these diplomats not even aware of Sri Lankans lives in those countries and the problems they are facing and do not know even Diaspora  People it has been revealed.Some Diplomats served their appointments as foreign tours it has been reported.

CID Has Recorded A Statement From Chief Justice On The Alleged Coup Attempt

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has today (23) recorded a statement  from the Chief Justice Mohan Pieris over the alleged coup attempt  said to be involved by some leaders of the previous  government in the early morning of 09th of January during the releasing of elections results .

The Chief Justice who was asked by the current government to step down from his post has also charged  as present at the  Temple Trees that time when the coup attempt has taken place according to the complaint made by Foreign Minister Managala Samaraweera to the CID.

Government Leaders And Ministers To Avoid Purchasing New Vehicles

The new Cabinet Of Ministers have decided not to purchase any new vehicle this year for the use of President,Prime Minister and Cabinet Ministers  the Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Of Health and Indigenous Medicine Dr.Rajitha Seneratne has said.

The Cabinet of the present government which meet last Wednesday (21) for the first time has decided this he has stated.The Ministers have decided to use the vehicles used by former Cabinet .

Private Bus Owners To Reduce Bus Fares

The Lanka Private Bus Owners Association has decided to reduce the Bus Fares by 7-8% with a minimum fare of Rs.8 according to the President of the Association Gamunu Wijerathne.The Private Bus Owners have decided to reduce the Bus Fares following the price reduction of fuel implemented by the Government .

This is the first time that the Bus Fares have been reduced since the year 2013.

President Sirisena Has Reinstated The General Ranking Of Former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka

President Maithripala Sirisena has today (21)instructed the authorities to drop all charges against the former Army Commander and the leader of Democratic Party Sarath Fonseka who has  guided Sri Lanka Armed Forces to the victory against LTTE Terrorism in 2009   and reinstate his  Army General Post.Former Army Commander General Fonseka  has lost all his Army Rankings and civic rights and was imprisoned by the former President Mahinda Rajapaksha  soon after the 2010 Presidential Elections as he has contested against former President.

General Fonseka is currently serving as the Adviser to the President Sirisena on National Security is likely to be appointed as either Minister Of Defense or the  Defense Secretary  according to the sources.His Parliamentary Seat which he has lost due to the false charges filed against him in military and civilian courts by the former regime too is scheduled to be given to him sources have added.

Private Bus Owners Association To Reduce Bus Fares

The Lanka Private Bus Owners Association has today announced that the Association has decided to reduce the bus fares in keeping with the latest fuel price reductions.The Bus Fare reductions will be made after calculation according to a formula the President of the Private Bus Owners Association Gamunu Wijeratne has said.

The Bus Fares have not been reduced during last year since it was increased in 2013.

Fuel Prices Reduced With Effect From Midninght Tonight

By keeping one of their Election Promises to provide relief measures  to the public  the Government has decided to reduce fuel prices with effect from midnight tonight.

According to the new price reduction of Fuel ,A liter of 92-Octane Petrol has to come down from Rs.150 to Rs.117 while a liter of 95-Octane Petrol has come down from Rs.158 to Rs.128.Lanka Auto Speed and Super Diesel which are selling  Rs.111 and Rs.138 per liter respectively scheduled to be reduced to Rs.95 and Rs.110 per liter.The price of Kerosene has come down from Rs.81 to Rs.65 per liter under the new price reduction.s

In addition to reduction of these fuel prices  Government is planning to bringing down the Gas Prices soon according to the government sources.

Meanwhile the Ministry Of Power and Energy has announced that a   price formula on fuel prices that will suit for the country's economy will be presented soon.

Government Expecting Chief Justice Pieris To Resign From His Post

The government is expecting the Chief Justice Mohan Pieris who was appointed illegally to the post according to the government lawyers ,will be resigned from his post with immediate effect.Chief Justice Pieris was appointed by Former President Mahinda Rajapaksha after sacking former Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranaike from the post.

Mr.Pieris is scheduled to be meet Prime Minister Ranil Wikramasinha to discuss on this  matter it has been reported.


A large number of lawyers have conducted a  Protest Campaign last week by urging the current Chief Justice to resign from his post.

Government To Pass Important Legislations During next Few Weeks Under 100 Day Programme

Under the 100 day Programme  government is expecting to pass Right To Information Legislation and National Medicinal Drug Policy along with new laws to grant more powers to the Auditor General it has been reported.The Parliament has meet today the first time since the recently concluded Presidential Elections on 08 th of January.

During the sessions today the new Prime Minister of the new all party government Ranil Wikramasinha has gained the support of the majority of the Parliamentary MP's and the speaker Chamal Rajapaksha has given a chance to continue in his post further.The President Maithripala Sirisena too has been Participated the Parliamentary Sessions by showing a new trend in Sri Lankan Politics although the Executive President is not responsible for the Parliament.

State Aviation Minister To Cancel The Licences Of All Duty Free Shops At The Air Port

The  Minister of State for Aviation Faizar Mustapha has today(20) ordered for the cancellation the licences of all Duty Free Shops situated at Katunayake Bandaranaike International Air Port which are said to be functioning under political influence since 2001.The Minister has requested the authorities to call fresh open tenders for these duty free shops.

These Duty Free Shops are not having proper licenses as all these years  they were supported by Politicians  according to the State Minister.

The selling of Liquor in all government owned Lak Sathosa Outlets island wide  will be prohibited with effect from this Wednesday(21) according to the Minister of Food Security Gamini Jayawikrama Perera.As in other Supermarkets Sathosa too selling liquor to the consumers up to now.

JVP MP Has Filed Writ Application To Arrest LTTE Leader KP

MP Vijitha Herath  of  leftist Janatha Wimkthi Peramuna Party  has today(19) filed a writ application in Appeals Court by requesting to issue an arrest order on the current leader and former chief  arms prosecutor of the LTTE KP allias Kumaran Pathmanathan and to commence judicial proceeding against him.

The petitioner MP Herath has sought an order of mandamus directing the Inspector General Of Police ,The Defense Secretary and the Army Commander to take necessary legal action against the KP.

Minor Tremor Has Occurred In Hambanthota District

A minor tremor measuring around 2 in Richter Scale has been occurred at Kirinda In Tissmaharama(Hambanthota District) early this morning.According to the Geological And Mines Bureau the exact location where the tremor has occurred still not identified and a study has already underway to identify the exact tremor location .

Travel Restrictions Imposed On Foreigners To North And East Has Been Removed

The Travel Restrictions  imposed on Foreigners when travelling North And Eastern Provinces has been removed under the instructions of President Maithripala Sirisena the Defense Ministry has announced today(17).This decision has been taken by the President at the first ever National Security Council meeting of the current government headed by him according to the Director Of Defense Ministry's Media Center Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasuriya .

This decision has been taken while considering the peaceful environment prevails in the country he has said.

Previous Government has imposed travel restrictions to foreign passport holders when travelling North And Eastern Provinces and under this such passport holders should get approval form the government prior to travelling those provinces.However transportation of explosive goods, Weapons,Telescopes,and Special Costumes to those provinces will be prohibited according to the Brigadier Waniigasuriya.

President Sirisena Has Appointed As The New Party Chairman Of Sri Lanka Freedom Party

The central committee of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party(SLFP) has today (16) unanimously  decided to appoint current president Maithripala Sirisena as the new party chairman.The Committee which meat this morning at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute,Colombo -07 has taken this decision.

President Sirisena was the former secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and he has contested from the National Democratic Front(NDF) lead by main opposition parties in the recently concluded presidential elections in the country.

Earlier former President Mahinda Rajapaksha has also agreed to hand over the chairmanship of the party to current President in view of avoiding a split withing the party.
