Seventeen Died Due To The Adverse Weather In The Island

 Seventeen persons,have died and Around Twenty persons,were injured due to the adverse,weather prevailed in the island during last week as a result of the Fengal typhoon which made a landfall.in sri lanka according to thd Disaster Management Center(DMC).Around 479,821 persons,were Affected due to the adverse weather conditions it caused due to the typhoon it has been revealed.




Meanwhile around 103 houses were completely destroyed as a result this DMC has announced .


Ceypetco Announced A Price Revision Of Fuel

 The Ceylon Petroleum Corporationn(Ceypetco) had reduced the Price of a liter of Octane-92 petrol by Rs.2 and increased the price of a liter of Ceylon White Diesel by Rs.3 and a liter of Kerosene Oil  by Rs.5 with effect from midnight tonight (30) under it's  monthly price revision formula it has been announced.

Accordingly the Price of a liter of Octane -92 Petrol had


reduced by Rs.2 to Rs.309  ,A liter of Ceylon White Diesel increased by Rs.3 to Rs.286  and a Liter of Kerosene oil had increased by Rs.5 to Rs.188 .The prices of a  liter of Octane - 95 Petrol and Super Diesel will  remain unchanged Rs.371 and Rs.313  respectively .

Twenty One Member Cabinet Of The New Govt. Assumed. duties Today(19)

The 22 member Cabinet of the new government which was appointed yesterday (18) had assumed  duties in the respective Ministries today (19) it has been reported


President Anura Kumara Dissanayake had appointed the cabinet of Ministers yesterday whilst keeping some  cabinet portfolios under him and  they have sworn in before the president at the Presidential secretariat in Colombo. President appointed Dr Harini Amarasuriya as the Prime Minister and she is also the  Minister of Education as well.The new Minister of Health and Media is Dr Nalin Jayathissa

National Peoples Power (NPP) Created History By Winning The General Election With A Two Third Majority

 The naltional Peoples Power Party  (NPP)ead by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has emerged victorious at the Parliamentary Election  held yesterday (14)by securing 159 seats out of the 225 seat parliament . 

 According ly  NPP  has won 159 seats (61.1) perecent which is a two third majority in the current parliament and the main opposition party in the previous parliament Samagi Janabalawegaya (SJB) has won 40 followed by 05 seats won by National  Democratic Front ,03 seats won by Sri Lanka Progressive Front and 08 seats won by Tamil National Alliance (TNA) .Meanwhile according to the reports many former  Parliamentariens representing Sri lanka Progressive Front and  National Democratic front with a history of  corruption had lost their parliqmentary  seats

Sri Lankans Had Cast Their Vote To Elect 225 Members Of The 10th Parliament

 Sri Lankans had cast their vote today (14)  at the  General Election to elect 225  members for  the 10th  Parliament .According to the National Elections Commission the voting which commenced at 7 a.m today and ended at 4 p.m is peaceful and the overall voter turnout is around 65 percent.


The first election result released by the Elections Commission today  was the Postal vote result in Galle District (Southern Province)and it was won by the governing National Peoples Power (    NPP) party. Out of the election results  declared  upto now almost all the resuls are in favor of NPP it has been reported Meanwhile according to The Elections Commission 17.1 million voters were eligible for today's voting including 1 million new voters .At the election around 8800   candidates were contested for 225:parliamentary seats of  the 10 th parliament.

Accordingly the Price of a Kilo Gramme Of green Gramme has been reduced byRs.51 ,The price of a kilo ramms. White Cowpea has been reduced by Rs.20 per Kilo gramme and White  sugar has been reduced by Rs.5 per a kilo gramme the Sathosa has been announced .Meanwhile the Sathosa has decided to sell a Kilo Gramme Of  Big anions for Rs.300 from yesterday it has been announced.

A Student Injured Due To A Fatal Bus Crash In Badulla Fled Away From Hospital

 One of the injured students attached to the Kotalawala Defense Univerity in Colombo who was receiving treatment at Badulla Teaching Hospital for the injuries sustained as a result of the fatal Bus accident occurred last friday (01).had secretly  fled away from the hospital last night (02) it has been reported.A 24 year old student had fled away without informing the hospital authorities it has been reported.Two young female students of the age 23 years have died as a result of the Bus they were travelling in crashed in to a dam at fifth post in Abagahaoya area at Dunhinda roadn,Badulla last friday morning and fourty others were admitted to Badulla Teaching Hospital for treatment .



Meanwile Ten students who are being received Intensive care treatment since last friday have recovered from their injuries and will be transferred to wards soon the Hospital authorities have stated.

Government Will Not Remove Officials Ravi Seneviratne And Shani Abeysekare- From Their Posts-Minister Vijitha Herath

 Government will not remove the Secretary to the Ministry Of Public Defense , former Deputy Inspector General Of Police Ravi Seneviratne and the Director of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Shani Abeysekare due to the allegations leveled against them by the leader of the Pivithuru Hela.Urumaya Udaya Gammanpila according to the Cabinet Spokesman Minister Vijitha Herath..


Former Parliamentarian Udaya Gammanpila had accused former  DIG Ravi Seneviratne and CID Director Shani Abeysekera as responsible for the easter sunday attack by issuing the Easter Sunday atttack Probe Report compiled by a committee appointed by the  previous government  .during a press briefing held in  Colombo.last Monday(21).However Both Ravi  senevirttne and shani abeysekera  have denied  any wrongdoing regarding the easter sunday attack.

A Motorcycle Destroyed Due To A Sudden Fire

 A Motorcycle ridden by two University students had been completely  destroyed yeterday (19)due to a sudden fire occured near the fuel tank of the vehicle  whilst travelling from Polgasowita area to Bandaragama area in Kaliutara district according to sources.


The Two motorcyclists who are University students were jumped away from the vehicle and try to douse,the fire but failed to do so it has been reported.The cause of the fire has not yet been revealed.

A Person Was Arrested Whilst Attempting To Bribe An Acting Police OIC

 Mattakkuliya Police in Colombo District had arrested a 50 year old Person over attempting to offer a monthly bribe of Rs.100,000 to the Acting  Officer In Charge(OIC)   of the Mattakkuliya Police yesterday (16) in view of getting pernission to engage in drug dealing in the area it has been reported.The suspect who is a  resident of Mattakkuliya area had informed the acting OIC of Mattakkuliya Police regarding the bribe through a phone call according to reports.


Thereaffer the acting OIC of Mattakkuliya Police have informed the incident to Bribery  commission and the Commission officers  along with the Police had arrested the suspect when he was attempted to offer Rs.50,000 to the acting OIC at the Mattakkuliya Police station  

Five School Girls Were Hospitalized Due To HPV Vaccine

 Five schoolgirls of 12 years of age attached to a.school.in milleniya area Were hospitalized after experiencing adverse reactions of Human papiloma virus (HPV)vacines given to prevent cervical cancer itt has been reported.

in Anguruwathota area were admitted to the Halthota Regional hospital with symptoms like headache,abdominal.pain and fainting following the adminsitration of the HPV Vaccine at the school  it has been revealed.A total number of 26 students were given the HPV vaccine but only those five students had experienced the adverse reactions of the vaccine sources have stated.Anguruwathota Police are conducting an investigations on the matter.

A 15 Year Old Student Died After Drowning In A Water Hole

A 15 year old student has died after drowning in a water hole at Kotadeniyawa-Mirigama road in Kotadeniyawa yesterday (16) whilst bathing with five of his friends it has been reported.



The deceased was with his elder sister at Erbadda area in Kotadeniyawaarea and after being drowned residents and Police officers in fhe area had rescued him and admitted to the Mirigama Police ,But he had succumbed to his injuries after admission it has been revealed.

Rice Company Owner Dudley Sirisena to Supply Rice For The Controlled Price

 The owner of the Araliya Rice Company Dudley Sirisena has yesterday(28) stated that his Company  along with other Rice companies  will supply all varities of Rice to the market  for the controlled  price until next January as a support to the current President .


Rice companies will supply  all varieties of rice to the Market according to the conttrol price announced by the government recently with effect from yesterday Sirisena has stressed during a press briefing held yesterday (28);in Polonnaruwa District.He has also stated that there's a shortage of Nadu rice variety in the market at present.


Senior DIG Priyantha Weerasuriya Has Been Appointed As Acting IGP

The senior Deputy Inspector General Of Police (DIG)  in charge of North Central Province  Priyantha Weerasuriya has been appointed as the acting Inspector General Of Police(IGP)by the President Anura Kumara Dissanayake with effect from yesterday(27).



He was apoointed as the  Acting Inspector General Of Police (IGP) as the court  has removed the former IGP Deshabandu Thennakoon from  functioning as IGP.The new acting Inspector General Of Police began his 36 year long career as a police constable before being  promoted  to the Acting IGP Post it has been revealed.

Dr.Harini Amarasuriya Appointed As The New Prime Minister As The New Four Member Cabinet Had Sworn In

 Dr.Harini Amarasuriya of the National Peoples Power Party (NPP) has sworn in as the New Prime Minister of the Government before President Anura Kumara Dissanayake last evening (24)at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo.


Four Cabinet members of the new government of President Dissanayake holding 17 ministries  had also sworn in before President last evening.The new Ministers  of the Givernment are President ,Prime Minister along with Wijitha Herath and Lakshman Nipunaarachchi.

President has also appointed new secretaries to the 17 ministries of the new governemnt.Earlier President Dissanayake has appointed Retired Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha as the new secretary to the Ministry Of Defense and former Senior Deputy Inspector General Of Police (DIG)  Ravi Seneviratne as the new secretary to the Ministry of Public Security .

President Dissanayke who was elected as the 09th Executive President of Sri Lanka had sworn in his post before Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya in a simple ceremony held at the Presidential secretariat on last Monday.Afterwards President has appointed Dr.Nandika Sanath Kumanayake as the new secretary to the President .



President Dissolved The Parliament Last Night-Election To Be Held On 14 th Of November

 President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has dissolved the Parliament with effect from midnight last night(24) according to the government sources.The gazette nollification regarding the dissolvement of the Parliament signed by the President has been issued yesterday .p The General Election to elect 225 members  to the new Parliament will be held on 14th of November this year and the new parliament will be convened on 21st of November it has been announced.


The nominations for the forthcoming Parliament election will be accepted from 04th of October until  12 noon on 11th of October .

Parliament To Be Dissolved At The First Instance Received -NPP MP Harini Amarasuriya

 The newly elected President Anura Kumara Dissanayake  will  dissolve the current Parliament to elect a new Parliament at the first instance received by him according to the National Peoples Power (NPP) party MP Dr.Harini Amarasuriya.



Speaking to the Media at the National Elections Commission office premises  in Colombo on Sunday she has stated that the new president will appoint a temporary cabinet to run the country and will be engaged in few otther activities before  dissolving the Parliament 

NPP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake Elected As The 09th Executive President Of Sri Lanka

The Presidential Candidate of the National Peoples Power (NPP) Party Anura Kumara Dissanayake has been elected as the 09th Executive President of Sri Lanka with 5,740,179 votes(42.3 percent ) from the Presidential election held yesterday (21).He has been declared as the winner after counting of  second and third preferential votes received by him and his main rival Samagijanabalawegaya Party(SJB) Leader Sajith Premadasa as the newly elected President didn't receive 50 percent of votes required  according to the  constitution .The final result of the Presidential election held last Saturday was announced at a ceremony held at the National Elections Commission in Colombo late sunday night.


The newly elected Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is scheduled to be sworn in before chief justice Jayantha Jayasuriya at a simple ceremony in Presidential secretariat at Galle face,Colombo tomorrow(23) it has been announced.There will be no auspicious times and welcome ceremonies for the newly elected preident the NPP has announced.Earlier NPP leaders requested the public not to light fire crackers and making milk rice at roadsides to celebrate the victory of newly elected Sri Lankan President.

The Islandwide curfew imposed since 10p.m last night(21) is due to continue till 12 noon today (22) according to the government .Earlier governmant had announced that the curfew will continue till 6 a.m this morning.

 To Observe today's Presidential Election  116 foreign Poll observers have arrived the country recently according to the reports.Out of these observers 78 are from European Election Monitoring Organizations it has been reported.

Maximum Punishment For Vote Rigging -Elections Commissioner

 Those who are found as responsible for vote rigging will be fined Rs.200,000 or sentenced to One year imprisonment according to the Elections Commisoner General Saman Sri Rathnayake .Earlier Rs.500.was fined for vote rigging he has stated.


Those who found guilty on vote rigging in High  court can also  face both punishments at  the same time the Elections Commissioner General has stated.

The Voting of The Ninth Presidential Election Has Commenced

 Sri Lankan voters are casting their vote today (21)to elect the ninth Executive President of the country as the voting began in the  13,421 Polling stations situated across the country .The voting of today's Presidential Election will be held from 7 a.m to 4 p.m and a total of 17.1million voters are being eligible to vote in today ' s election according to the National Elections Commission .


A record breaking 38 candidates are being contested in todays election and around 63,000 police officers are being deployed throughout the country to ensure the safety of the voters according to the Elections commission.The transportation of ballot boxes to the polling stations in 22 districts has commenced last morning (20)under tight security .

ITAK To Support SJB Presidential Candidate Sajith Premadasa

 Ilangei  Thamil Arasakachchi Party(ITAK)  has decided to support Samagijanabalawegaya(SJB) Party candidate Sajith Premadasa in the forthcoming Presidential election scheduled to be held  on 21st of September .

Fourteen Youths Were Arrested At A Facebook Party

Excise officers  have arrested 14 youths who were under the influence of narcotics during a raid caried out  at a facebook Party held in a hotel in Kadawatha area (Colombo) yesterday(15).The detained who are from various places in the country and in the age group 19-30 years were under the  influence of narcotics Ice and Cocaine at the time of the arrest according to the officers. 



Excise officers in the Gampaha,Negambo and Jaela areas have conducted this raid.

 The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officials have arrested an Indian national Businessman in pocession of 12 Gold Biscuits whilst awaiting at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake last evening (07).



The value of the seized stock of Gold Biscuits is around Rs.30 million according to CID Officials.The CID Officials had arrested the 29 year old Indian Businessnan when he was, awaiting at the Airport to flyback to Bangalore india it has been reported.The seized stock of Gold biscuits had been concealed in trouser pocket of the suspect.

A Retired Army Personal Was Killed Due To A Wild Elephant Attack

 A 52 Year old Retired Army personal was killed due to a Wild Elephant attack at a paddy  field in punchihalamillawa area in Kahatagasdigiliya(Anuradhapura District.).The deceased was engaged in chasing  away of the  wild elephants in the paddy field at the time of  the attack it has been revealed.

The Deceased Army personal was a resident 


of Ranpathwala area in Kahatagasdigiliya  area and the Kahatagasdigiliya Police are conducting an investigations over the incident .

More Than Hundred Students Injured And Hospitalized Due To A Wasp Attack

 More than 100 students attached to a school in Deniyaya area at Matara District (Southern Province)and two non academic staff members of the school were we're injured and hospitalized due to a wasp attack occurred last Friday(30) it has been reported.Accordingly the group of students attached to Percy Abeywardane school in pattigala area and two non academic staff members we're injured and admitted to heegoda government hospital and 08 of the students were transferred to Embilipiyiya General Hospital for further treatment.


Urubokka Police are investigating on the incident it has been reported.


Police Narcotic Bureau Arrested A Malaysian Female In Pocession Of More Than Three Kilos of Cocaine

 The Police Anti Narcotic Bureau officials have arrested a Malaysian female with 3  Kilo Grammes and 610 Grammes of Cocaine in her pocession at a hotel in Bellanwila area it has been reported.The stock of  Cocaine taken into custodyT custody is the largest stock of cocaine taken into custody in recent times according to Police.


The estimated value Of the stock of Cocaine taken into custody is more than Rs.11 million it has been revealed .The detained Malaysian female is due to be produced before the Nugegoda Magistrate Court .

A 33 Year Old female was injured Due To A Gun Shooting At Badulla

 A 33 year old pregnant mother was injured and hospitalized due to a gun shooting incident at her house in Hidagoda at Badulla district (Uva province) last evening (31).The injured has been admitted to the Badulla teaching hospital for treatment .


Police have arrested the suspect who was involved in the gun shooting and Taken into custody the Galkatas type firarem in pocession of  the suspect and his motorcar it has been reported .The cause behind the gun shooting incident has not yet been revealed.

 The National Election Commission has stated that there's,an opportunity to nominate a new candidate for the forthcoming Presidential Election  in the place of the Independent Candidate Muhammad Illyas who passed away due to a heart failure on last Thursday (22).If an Independent group wishes to nominate an independent Candidate it needs to be done within a three day period the Chairman of the Commission R.M.A.L Ratnayske has stated .



If the deceased need to be replaced a death certificate need to be submitted to the Elections commission the Chairman has stressed.As a,result of the death of Independent candidate Illyas the number of candidates for the forthcoming Presidential election now stands as 38 it has been reported.

Former Deputy Leader Of United National Party Rukman Senanayake Passed Away

 The former Deputy leader and Chairman of the United National Party(UNP) and the grand son of the Sri Lanka's first Prime Minister late D.S Senanayake ,Rukman Senanayake has passed away yesterday (24) at the age of 76 according to his family sources.


He entered politics in 1973 as a MP in Dadigma area in Kegalle District  and again elected to the Parliament in 1994 and  2004 .He was appointed as the Chairman of the United National Party in 2007 and he had served as the Minister of Environment  and Natural resources during 2002-2004 .

 Kosgoda Police had arrested three Police officers attached to the  Benthota Police over taking  Rs 6000 as a bribe from illicit liquor Smugglers last Saturday(17) evening.Accordingly a Deputy Inspector,Police sergeant and a Police driver attached to Benthota Police were arrested over taking the bribe.



The Three Police personal were arrester after the person offered the bribe has recorded the bribe incident through his mobile phone and sent the video to the Senior Superintendent of Police in Elpitiya it has been revealed.

NBRO Issued Landslide Warnings To Five Districts

 Ths National Building Research Organization (NBRO) had issued landslide warnings to 34 secretariats in five districts  until this evening (19) due to the heavy showers prevailing in many areas at present the NBRO has announced.


Accordingly 34 secretariats in Colombo,Kalutara,Kegalle,Matara and Ratnapura districts had received these landslide warnings .

Presidential Election-Ceylon Workers Congress Decided To Support President Wikramasinghe

 One of the main tamil parties in the Island the Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC) has  decided to support tbe current  president Ranil wikramasinghe in the forthcoming Presidential Elections scheduled to be held on 21st of September it has been announced yesterday(18).According to the General Secretary of the Ceylon Workers Congress Minister Jeewan Thondaman the  All the members of National council of the Ceylon Workers congress had unanimously decided to support the current president in the forthcoming election .


The CWC is due to sign an agreement with the President Wikramasinghe regarding supporting him in the election he has stressed.

Seven Injured Due To A Motor Car Collision



persons were injured and hospitalized after the  two Motor Cars they were travelling in colliding with each other at Molagoda area in Kegalle of the Colombo-Kandy main road this noon(18) according to reports.

Accordingly due to this incident Seven persons including  two infants and three females were injured and admitted to the Kegalle General Hospital for treatment .The incident has occurred as one of the drivers in a car fallen  sleep whilst on the wheal it has been revealed.

NBRO Issued Land Slide Warning To Three Districts

The National Building Research Organization(NBRO) had issued a 24 hour long  landslide warning to seven Divisional secretaries belongs to Three districts as a result of the adverse weather conditions  prevailing in at present .

Accordingly the  land slide warning has been issued to seven divisional secretaries belongs to Galle,Matara  and Kalutara Districts for  the period 7.30 p.m last night until 7.30 p.m tonight the NBRO has stated.

Seventeen Estate Houses Were Destroyed Due To A Fire

Seventeen Estate Sector houses at Shinwatte area in Pundaluoya ( Central Province) have been destroyed due to a fire broken, out in the housing scheme last night(16))it has been reported.Due to this fire 27 families  in the estate sector are being displaced it has been reported . 

Eight houses out of the twenty four houses in the Housing scheme were completely destroyed and nine houses were severely damaged as a result of the fire according to the reports.The fire started from.a house and spreads  to other houses it has been revealed.

Thirty Nine Candidates Handed Over Their Nominations For The Presidential Election-One Was Absent

 Out of the 40 candidates who were deposited money for the forthcoming Presidential Election 39 candidates had been handed over their nominations to the National Elections Commission yesterday(15).According to the  Commission Sarath Kumara Gunaratne who were deposited  Rs.75,000 as the bond last wednesday (14) didn't hand over his nomination .



Accordingly President Ranil Wikramasinghe as an Independent candidate running under the symbol Gas Cylinder ,Anura Kumara Dissanayake from National Peoples Power party (NPP) and Sajith Premadasa from Main opposition Samgijanabalawegaya Party have handed over their nominations as the key candidates running for the forthcoming Presidential Election  scheduled to be held on 21st of september.Also Former MP Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka had handed over nomination as an Independent candidate running under the symbol Lantern  former MP ,Namal Rajapakshe had handover his nomination behalf of the Sri lanka Podujana Peramuna party and Dilith Jayaweera has handed over his nomination behalf of sarvajana Balaya Party.

Twenty Four Candidates To Contest In The Presidential Election

The Supreme Court has yesterday (09) announced that the decision taken by the main opposition  Samagi Janabalawegaya (SJB)  Party to ban the Party Membership of Ministers Manusha Nanayakkara and Harin Fernando is legitimate.

Twenty Two Passangers Were Injured Due To Bus Collision

 Twenty two passangers were injured and hospitalized after the two private buses they were travelling in colliding with each other at Aralaganwila Road ,Mahaoya,(Anuradhapura District) yesterday(03).



The injured including 12 females, 08 Children and 02 males were admitted to the Mahaoya Hospital for treatment .The incident occurred when a Private Bus travellingfrom Mahaoya to Aralaganwila had collided with another Private Bus travelling in the opposite direction according  to the police.Police have arrested one of the private Bus drivers in connection  with the accident .

Five Injured Due To A Motor Car Collision on Southern Express Highway

Five persons were injured and hospitalized due to a Motor car collision at 92 Kilo meter post area between Baddegama and Pinnaduwa areas of the  Southern Express highway it has been reported.The incident occurred due to a collision between two Motor vehicles travelling in the same direction according to reports.

Activities Of Galle Prison Have Been Restricted

 Prison Authorities of Galle prison had decided to restrict the activities of prison for a week period as one of the prison inmates has confirmed as died from brain fever .

According to the Prison Commissioner during the post mortem of the deceased prison inmate it has been confirmed that he has died due to brain fever.As a result steps have been taken to transfer new prisoners of the Galle prison  to  other prisons according to sources.


Public Utilities Commission reduced Monthly Electricity Bill

 Sri Lanka Public Utilities Commission has,decided to reduce the monthly Electricity Bill with effect from today (16) according to its chairman Professor Manjula  Fernando.Accordingly  the Monthly Electricity Bills of  houses will be reduced by 27 percent ,Hotels will be reduced by 25 percent and Religious places by 30 percent .


However the Ceylon Electricity Board has recommended a 10 percent reduction of Electricity Bill it has been reported.

Two Day Railway Strike Called Off

 The Railway  strike launched by three Railway trade unions including Station Masters Union which caused the cancelation  of many office and intercity trains since last Tuesday,(09)had called off with effect from midnight tonight (11)it has been announced.

Accordingly Railway station masters will report to work  from tomorrow morning the trade unions have announced .Earlier government had issued a gazette notification stating the issuance of  the vacation of  posts letters to the striking . station masters .The two day railway strike was launched by demanding solutions for several service demands including promotion issues according to ths trade unions.
