A Student Died After Falling From The Hospital Building

 A seventeen year old student receiving treatment at Theldeniya Hospital(Kandy District( has,died after falling from the sixth floor of the hospital it has been reported .


The incident occured whilst the  student were receiving  treatment for a stroke according to reports.

An Airforce Personal Was Killed Due To An Explosion

PAn Airforce Personal was killed due to an explosion occurred at a Airforce shooting Camp in kandakuliya,area ,Kalpitiya (North western Procince) this evening (26) according to Kalpitiya Police.



The deceased was identified as a 28 year old  Airforce personal attached to the Bomb disposal squad resided in Chilaw area.The incident occurred when the deceased attempting to  inspect an explosives it has been revealed.The body of the deceased is lying at the Kalpitiya Hospital for the post mortem.

 

A Youth Has Drowned Whilst Bathing In Bulathsinghala

 A 22 year old youth has drowned whilst bathing in a river at Halwatura,area in Bulathsinghala this evening (26).


The deceased youth was a resident of Horana area and had drowned whilst bathing in a river with few other youth it has been revealed.His body had sent to Ingiriya Base Hospital for the Post Mortem.

A Former DIG Was Sentenced A Five year Rigorous Imprisonment

 Ratnapura Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne had yesterday (25) sentenced the former retired Senior Deputy Inspector General Of Police (DIG) Lalith Wijesinghe  a five year rigorous imprisonment and ordered to pay Rs.20,000  as the fine over influencing the OIC in Kahawatte Police to avoid arresting the murder suspect  Podujana Peramuna MP Premalal Jayasekare alias "Choka malli" .


The Former retired Senior DIG was charged for  influencing  the Kahawatte OIC from carrying out his duties when he was the senior supirintendent of police in Ratnapura district.

Bakery Owners Are Ready To Reduce Bread Prices

The All Ceylon Bakery Owners Association had announced that the Association will reduce the price of the loaf of Bread weighing  450 Grammes if the Government reduce taxes imposed on the ingredients used to make bread.



If the Government can reduce the taxes a loaf of bread will bw reduced to Rs.100 the Association has stated.


Two Were Killed And Three Were Injured Due To Three Whealer-Bus Collision

Two persons were killed and another three  were critically  injured and hospitalized after the Three whealer they were  travelling in colliding with a Private Bus at Galewela ,Beligamuwa area on  Kurunagala -Dambulla main road this morning (24).


The injured were admitted to the Galewela provincial Hospital for treatment and critically injured child and an  adult were transferred to Dambulla and Kandy National hospitals respectively for further treatment according to the Police.The deceased and injured persons had been reported as residents of Arachchikatuwa area.

A Twelve Hour Long Water Cut Implemented In Colombo Yesterday (23)

The National Water Supply and Drainage Board had iimplemented  a twelve hour long water cut in five divisions in  Colombo City since 6 P.M last evening (23) due to an essential maintainance work of a pipeline according to the Board.


Accordingly water supply to Colombo 11,12,13,14 and 15  is being stopped since  6 p.m last evening until 5 am this morning (24)due to the essential maintainance work of the Ambatale water supply system improvements and energy savings .

Passara -Madolsima Road Is Being Blocked Due To A Large Soil Mound

 The Passara-Madolsima Road at Sohona junction ,first post in Badulla District is being completely blocked due to the falling of a large  soil mound and tree branches from a,slope as a result of the heavy showers prevailing in the area according to the Badulla District secretariet 


Due to this situation transport of the road  is being blocked and those who were returning their homes from.office and school were faced enormous difficulties as a result it has been reported.The authorities had yesterday launched a mission to remove the soil mounf and tree branches from the road.


Chicken Producers Reduced The Price Of Chicken

 The Chicken Producers Association had agreed to reduce a Kilo Gramme of Chicken by Rs.100 with effect from today (22) during the discussions held yesterday (21)between the Association and Trade Minister Nalin Fernando according to the Ministry of Trade.


Accordingly the Chicken Producers had agreed to  reduce the Price of a one kilo gramme of Chicken by Rs.100 from Rs.1250 to Rs.1150 the Ministry had stated.

Sri Lanka Navy Recovered 400 KG Of Kerala Cannabies

Sri Lanka Navy had taken into custody 400 Kilo Grammes and 810 Grammes of Kerala Cannabies stored in a Dinghy boat at Mankuliya lagoon in  Negambo yesterday (21).


The stock of Kerala Cannabies that had been  recovered were packed  in 10 parcels and worth more than Rs.13 million it has been estimated.

Sri Lanka Navy had handed over the stock of Kerala cannabies to the Excise office in Negambo  for further investigations .

A Parcel Containing Over One Kilo Of Hashis Recovered

A Parcel containing a stock of Narcotic Hashish weighing 1 Kilo Gramme and 98 Grammes imported from Belgium has been recovered by the Customs at Orugodawatte( Colombo ) container terminal.


The Parcel addressed to  a place in Wennappuwa,Chilaw contained a stock of Hashish worth around Rs.16,470,000 the Customs had stated. 

 However Customs have found the address of the parcel is fake and the stock of Hashish was handed over  to the Police Narcotics Control Unit by the customs for further investigations .

NBRO Issued Landslide Warnings To Five Districts

 The National Building Research Organization (NBRO)  had issued landslide warnings to five districts in the island due to the heavy showers prevailing in the country.


Accordingly NBRO had issued landslide warnings to several divisional secretariets in  Galle,Kalutara,Kegalle,Matara and Ratnapura districts.Those lives in hill areas too are need to be vigilant over the prevailing adverse weather conditions NBRO had stated.

The Citizens Power Group against Freud and Corruption had yesterday(18) lodged a complaint at Police headquarters in Colombo fort requesting to probe on whether the Sri Lsnka Cricket Team involved in  Match fixing during the Asia cup Cricket final played in R.Premadasa stadium in Coombo last Sunday (17).

Thirty Students Were Hospitalized Due To A Food Poisioning

 Around 30 students attached to a School in Ratnapura District had been hospitalized  in Mawanalla area due to  a food poisioning incident yesterday(18) according to the Police.

A Six Year Old Child Was Killed Due To A Gun Shooting

 A Six year old girl was killed and her father was crtically injured after few individuals arrived in a Motorcycle had fired gun shors at the Three whealer they were travelling in near the Maligakande Magistrate Court in Maradana (Colombo District) last evening (17).


The Critically injured child had succumbed to her injuries after admission to Colombo National Hospital and her father is still receiving treatment at the hospital in critical condition it has been revealed .Police believe the father of the deceased child may be the target of the shooters ,However the reason behind the gun shooting has not yet been revealed.

Maradana Police are investigating on the incident .

Unidentified Gunmen Fired Gun Shots At MP Uddika Premaratne"s Vehicle

 Few Unidentifed persons arrived in a Van had fired gun shots at the Van in which the  Former Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna,MP and Actor Uddika Premaratne was travelling in near his father's house at Airport road in Anuradhapura District it has been reported.


MP Premaratne was escaped unhurt from the incident.The  gunmen had  fled away the scene after the gun shooting  and Anuradhapura Headquarter Police are investigating on the incident.The reason behind the gun shooting has not yet been revealed.

Twenty Two Persons Were Injured Due To Bus Collision

 Twenty two Persons including Twenty one students and a Teacher had been injured and admitted to the Padukka Provincial Hospital after the Bus they were travelling  in colliding with another Bus at Thunnana area in Padukka(Colombo) yesterday (15) according to the Police.

Ministry Of Health To Give Two Year Extension For Retired Doctors

The  Ministry of Health has decided to give a  two year extension for the group of doctors who are due to be retired from the service this year at the age of 63  due to the brain drain in the country  according to the Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella .

A 20 Year Old University Student Died Due To A Train Accident

 A 20 year old person had died due to the fatal injuries sustained to his head after colliding with the roof of a Horape Railways station yesterday (12)  whilst travelling on the roof of the train as a result of the ongoing engine drivers strike .

The deceased who


travelling on the roof of the Train plying from Kandy to Colombo succumbed to his injuries at the railways station it has been reported.

The deceased was a resident of Moragoda area in Gampaha and  student of Moratuwa University according to the reports.


Commuters Faced Enormous Difficulties Due To The Engine Drivers Strike

 Commuters including the  office workers and students had faced enormous difficulties for the second  consecutive day today (13)as a result of the strike launched by the engine drivers according to the Sri Lanka Railways Department .


Around 13 scheduled train journeys had been cancelled this morning  (13) and 119 short distance trains yesterday (12)due to the Railway Engineers Strike it has been reported.However  40 additional train journeys will be operated today  for the benefit of commuters the Railway authorities had stated .

Airport Customs Recovered A Consignment Of 2.5 Kg Of Cocaine

 Sri Lanka Customs  officers have recovered a consignment of 2.5 Kilo grammes of Cocaine believes to be worth Rs.190 Million that had been air freighted from Brazil ,at Katunayake Bandaranaike International Airport yesterday (12).


The stock of Cocaine was hidden inside the piped hem on a side of a Volleyball net the Customs officers had revealed.Authorities had arrested the  individual residing in Colombo who was identified as  the receiver of the parcel .The suspect along with the seized parcel were handed over to the Police narcotic bureau for further investigations it has been reported.


A Higher Officer Of A Pharmaceutical Company Committed Suicide

 The General Manager of a local Pharmac eutical company had committed suicide by jumping into the sea at Egodauyana area in Moratuwa(Colombo District) last noon (12) according to the Police.


The body of the deceased had been recovered after it was drifted to the shore it has been reported.The deceased was identified as a 53 year old person residesd in Maharagama area .He had  returned home from  office last noon ,signed his last will and committed suicide the preliminary police investigations had rerevealed .The cause behind this death has not yet been revealed.
