Epidemeology Unit Had Halted The Corona Vaccine Process Due To Lack Of Vaccine Doses And Reverse The Plan Again

 The Decision taken By the Epidemiology Unit last Wednesday  (31)  night to halt the Anti Corona Vaccination programme conducted  in Western Province citing to save Vaccine dioses to administer  as  the second dose of the Corona Vaccine for those who got the first dose ..has been reversed back by the unit last  evening(02) .

Accordingly the Epidemeology Unit has  announced that the vaccination programme underway to inject Oxford /Astrazeneca, "Covishield 'Anti Corona vsccine had been halted since last Wednesday (30)

As the Epidemeology Unit heads had implemented  the Anti Corona Vaccination programme according to the wishes of some politicians by avoiding the Vaccination plan prepared by the Advisory board of Epidemeology ,the Anti Corona vaccination programme  never prioritized the over 60.age  group  who are at higher risk when vaccinating .

Under the Corona vaccination process 923 ,954 Covishield vaccine doses out of the 1,264,000 vaccine doses received by the country had been administered up to now and little more then 330,000 vaccine doses are remained  to administer .

The Serum institute in India had halted the exporting  of Covishield vaccines to other countries soon after  the Corona cases in the country began to surge and now Sri lanka is running out of Covishield vaccine doses to administer as the second dose for those who got the first vaccine dose due to the improper way of handling  the Vaccination programme since the begining .

Community physicians and medical specialists had warned the health authorities several  times since last January to prioritise the higher risk groups when Vaccinating  with the Anti Corona vaccines as the vaccine supply is limited ,But the authorities did not consider the opinion of those professionals .Authorities had launched the vaccination process by administering the vaccine to Health and Military staff who are frontrunners in the Anti Corona fight but not able to vaccinate all those who are needed to be vaccinated .In the half way they have given the vaccine doses to the 30-60 age group who are belonging the last stage of the vaccination process in other countries by forgetting the over 60 age group.
