Overall 71 Percent Voter Turnout Reported In General Elections Held Today (05)- Counting Of Votes To Begin At 8 A.M Tomorrow (06)

Overall 71 percent out of the total
number of registered voters in the island had voted in today 's (05)Parliamentary Election concluded at 5 p.m. according to the chairman of the National Election Commission Mahinda Deshapriya.

Most of the 23 Electorates had been recorded over 70 percent voter turnout  including  Colombo District  (72 percent) ).

The lowest voter turnout had been reporated  from Kurunagala ,Puttalam ,Galle and Jaffna districts according to the Chairman of the Election Commission.


Only two major incidents related to the Election violences had been Occured during the voting today including the incident which the Forner Prime minister Mahinda Rajapakshe had entered several polling stations at Kurunagala District during the voting with 200  auppprtes of him and the roads nearby were blocked as a result according to local Election monitors

In another incident candidate prasanna ranaweera of Sri Lanka People's progressive party (SLPP-Pohottowa )had assaulted a Muslim voter it has  been reported .

Meanwhile all ballot boxes had been transported to counting Centers this evening  soon after concluding the voting  and counting is scheduled to begin at 8 a. m tomorrow (06).The first election result is being expected to release around 2.30 p.m tomorrow evening and the last at midnight tomorrow Election Commission Chairman has stated .
