Stroke patients in Sri Lanka are on the increase and 01 out of 100 population is suffering from a stroke in some stage of that person 's life according to a new study conducted by a group of local doctors the veteran Neurologist Dr.Padma Gunaratna has stated last Thursday (06).
Due to the higher life expectancy of Females in Sri Lanka majority of Stroke patients reported from Sri Lanka are females She has stressed .
Speaking at a Media Seminar and A press briefing held at Health Promotions Bureau in Colombo on 'Stroke " last Thursday morning (06) Dr.Gunaratna has said that during last six months number of stroke patients admitted to five leading government hosputals including Colombo National Hospital had been increased and there's a need to improve Hospital wards and bed capacity for Stroke patients in Government Hospitals to address the situation.
High cholesterol ,High Blood Preassure,bad food habits , obesity /Overweight Liquor consumption, smoking ,diabetes are known as the risk factors which lead to stroke according to Consultamt Neurologist In Colombo National Hospital Dr. Gamini Pathirana.
If someone has Developed these symptoms the person should be admitted to the nearest Hospital to receive teatment he has stressed.
Stroke is being identified as the second leading cause of death in Sri Lanka and third leading cause of death in hospitals .
