President Maithripala Sirisena had signed 65 gazette notifications to declare 65 unsecured conservation reserves including kadolana forests as secured forests at a inauguration ceremony of the " Haritha Arana "Tree planting project held at Galoya reserve in Habarana yesterday (12).
President has signed these Gazette notifications as a Minister of Mahaweli and Environment during the Ceremony held to mark 80 th anniversary of Bank of Ceylon coincides with the National Tree Planting Ceremony organized by Ministry of Mahaweli and Environment and Forest Conservation Department .
To mark the Event President has planted a tree in the land belonging to Forest Conservation Department at Polonnaruwa-Habarana area nearby the Habarana -Trincomalee Main Road .Under the "Haritha Arana "project authorities have planned to plant 80,000 trees in a 250 acre land area.
During his speech president has stressed that during his era the forest density in the country has been increased .
