A Female Elephant Has Died Due To Exploding "Hakkapatas "

A body of a female Elephant who died after eating food contains an explosive device "Hakkapatas" had been found at a paddy field in hadaoya area at Pothuwil ,Ampara it has been reported.

The deceased Elephant who was around 30 years old died as the explosive device inside the food item she had consumed exploded inside the mouth according to Wild Life Officers
Due to consuming food contains this device animals including Elephants die after not been able to consuming any food as a result of the injured mouth .

Wild Life Department along with Pothuwil Police have launched an investigation over the death of the female Elephant.

"Hakkapatas" devices are use by the farmers to protect their crops from animals although  it's an illegal method officials have stated.
