Colombo Fort Magistrate has today(05) issued an open warrant to arrest former Sri Lankan Ambassador to United States Of America Jaliya Wikramasuriya who had ignored the court over involving in a financial fraud while he was the Ambassador.The Former Ambassador Wikramsuriya was arrested by the Police Financial Crimes Investigation Division and later remanded over cheating US Dollars 130,000 belonging t Sri Lankan government when purchasing a new building for the Sri Lankan Embassy in USA during his tenure.
However he was later released on bail due to medical reasons .But as he avoided appearing before the court on 17th of November last year for a case filed against him regarding the fraud Colombo Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne had issued the open warrent t arrest him and produce before the court.
The court also ordered the four persons including the wife of Former Ambassador Wikramsuriya who had signed his bail application to appear before the court on 16th of February .
