The Train drivers who have launched a continuous
Island Wide strike since midnight yesterday (06)have decided to continue their strike due to the failure of talks held with Transport Ministry authorities regarding their demand this noon (07).
Due to the strike more than 100 long distance and office train services as well as all night mail trains scheduled for today had been cancelled and as a result thousands of commuters including school children and Office workers had faced enormous difficulties according to the Railways Department.
The locomotive Automobile Engineering Drivers Union has organized the strike .
Meanwhile Station Masters and Train Guards are due to join the continuous strike launched by the Train drivers from midnight tonight according to the Station Masters Union.These two catagories have decided to strike to oppose the delaying of approving a Cabinet paper regarding increasing their salaries submitted by the Transport Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva and Prime Minister Ranil Wikramasinghe jointly.
