Mother Nature Unkind To Many Areas As Strong Winds And Heavy Showers Caused Tree Falls,Power Cuts And Disruption Of Transport Activities In Five Districts

Mother nature unkind to many areas in Five Districts since last evening as falling of trees as a result of the strong winds up to 80 Kilo Meters per hour experienced in  Galle,Matara ,Hambanthota ,Colombo and Kalutara had destroyed many properties and houses and disrupted electricity supply as well.

Due to the fallen trees as a result of the strong winds many areas in Galle,Matara and Hambanthota  experiences electricity cuts since last evening.The restoring of electricity supply to  these areas are being delayed due to the continuous sowers and winds the authorities have stated.

Transport activities in many areas in southern province including Ambalangoda area have been disrupted since last evening as a result of the fallen trees towards the main roads .Sign boards fallen on to the roads in many areas according to reports.

Two persons were injured and hospitalized after a Tree had fallen on to the Motor Car they were traveling in at Kiribathgoda last night .The injured were admitted to the Colombo National Hospital for treatment.

Due to the Heavy showers and strong winds train services in Kelany valley and Upcountry railway lines have been disrupted and due to the strong winds experienced in Katunayake three flights two Sri Lankan flights arrived in from Chennai and Bangalore in India and a Air Asia flight arrived in from Kuala Lampur in Malaysia had been diverted to Mattala International Airport in Hambanthota last night.

The diverted flights had returned Katunayake International Airport this morning after the weather in the area had improved.
