Colombo High Court has today(07) sentenced former
Secretary to the President Lalith Weerathunge and former director of
Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (TRC) Anusha Palpita a three
year rigorous imprisonment each and imposed a fine of Rs.20 million
each over distributing white cloths (Sil Redhi) to devotees of temples
by utilized funds belonging to the TRC during previous presidential
elections.
By delivering the verdict Colombo High Court
Judge Gihan Kulathunge has also advised the two accused to pay Rs.50
million each as compensation to the Telecommunication Regulatory
Commission before 20th of September.Thursday, September 7, 2017
