Hambanthota,Magampura Harbour To Be Handed Over To A Chinese Company Today

An agreement to hand over the Hambanthota
,Magampura Harbor to a Chinese Private Company " China Merchant"  on lease is due to be signed today (29) at the Ministry of Ports and Shipping at 10.30 a.m .

The Magampura port is due to hand over to the Chinese Company for a period of 99 years under the agreement and the total investment of the project is US Dollars 112 billion.

Meanwhile a protest campaign against the agreement waa held yesterday (28)at Hambanthota organized by All ceylon ports employees association and a similar protest is currently on in front of Khan clock tower in Colombo Fort according to the association.

Prime Minister Ranil Wikramasinghe has stated yesterday (28)that the agreement will helpful to reduce the current mount of debt faced by  the country and a similar agreement will be signed regarding the Mattala International Airport as well.
