Future Of Uma Oya Project To Be Decided After Norwegian Report-Minister Amaraweera

The future activities regarding the controversial Uma
Oya project will be taken after the Norwegian experts submit their report on the project according to the Minister Mahinda Amaraweera who is also a member of the Cabinet sub committee appointed to probe on the project.

A team of Norwegian Specialists due to ge arrived in Sri Lanka on 30th of July to probe on the Uma Oya project which begun during previous government.

Minister Amaraweera who served as a Minister during the previous government as well  has stated during a press briefing held yesterday (07) in Colombo that the Iranian construction company "Farab" handling the Uma Oya project not have previous experiences on such projecrs according to the initial probe carried out on the iranian funded project.Iranian government proposed this company for the project and the equipment the company used to excavations of the Uma Oya tunnel proved as not suitable for the work Minister has further said.

He also revealed that new equipment will be imported for the project on 18th of July as per the recommendations of local and international experts.

However the peoples movement against uma oya multipurpose project is demanding another round of talks with authorities over the problems arise due to the Uma oya project.
