United Peoples Freedom Alliance(UPFA) MP Geetha Kumarasinghe has today(09) files an appeal in Supreme Court through her lawyers against the Appeals Court decision on abolishing her Parliamentary Seat due to her dual citizenship status.
Court of Appeal recently stated that MP Kumarasinghe who holds a dual citizenship in Switzerland and Sri Lanka not qualified to hold a Sri Lankan MP Post according to the 19th amendment of the Constitution.
Meanwhile the Parliamentary Secretary has today informed the Elections Commissioner that the Parliamentary Seat of MP Geetha Kumarasinghe who was elected to the Parliamnet from Benthara-Elpitiya area(Southern Province) has become vacant due to the court decision given against her.
Following these developments the General Secretary of the UPFA Mahinda Amaraweera has announced that the Party will nominate former Minister Piyasena Gamage who lost his seat during the last Parliamentary Elections as the replacement for the MP Kumarasinghe's vacant Parliamentary seat.
