Government is considering to shift the garbage dump at Meethotamulla (In Colombo) to Aruwakkalu in Puttalam District (North Western Province).
Authorities are of the view that the garbage dump in Meethotamulla which contains the garbage collected from Colombo can be used to fill limestone pits in Aruwakkalu Area it has been reported.
Earlier government has taken a decision to shift the garbage dump to a private land in Ja Ela ,but due to the protests of the residents there that decision has been suspended.
Around 800 tonnes of garbage collected from Colombo are in the dump at present and due to this residents around the area are being faced several health problems the reports have stated.
