Sri Lanka Navy have arrested Seventeen Local Fishermen along with four fiber glass dinghies (A variety of boats) while involving in illegal fishing in Sri Lankan waters on two separate occasions .In one instance Navy Officers have arrested Ten local fishermen along with a fiber glass dinghie while involved in illegal fishing by using banned fishing nets in the seas off Norway Island ,Trincomalee .
In another occasion Navy have arrested Seven local fishermen with three fiber glass dinghies while involved in illegal fishing udappuwa and sinnapadu sea areas.Five Oxygen Tanks and a pair of diving fins have been arrested along with fishermen.
The Navy have handed over the detained fishermen and equipment to Assistant Director Of Fisheries (Puttalam) and the Harbor Police in Trincomalee respectively for a legal action.
