Operation Of Norochchalai Power Plant Has Been Fully Restored

Operation of the Norochchalai Coal Power Plant has been fully restored with effect from yesterday (29) according to Minister Of Power and Renewable Energy Ranjith Siyambalapitiya.

Accordingly the full capacity of 900 Mega Watts from the plant is added to the National Grid the Minister has said.

During The First Two Months Of This Year 9751 Dengue Patients Had Been Reported Throughout The Island

During the first two months in this year(2016) 9751 Dengue Patients had been reported throughout the island according to Sri Lanka Epidemiology Unit.

Accordingly 6517 Dengue Patients had been reported during January and 3234 Patients in February the Epidemiology Unit has said.

The majority of the Dengue Patients reported during last two months around 51.12% are  residents of Western Province according to the Statistics available.

Secretary General Of International Federation Of Red Cross Due To Visit Sri Lanka In March

The Secretary General of the International Federation Of Red Cross And Red Crescent Societies Elhadj As Sy is due to Arrive Sri Lanka in March for a three day official visit.

During His visit to Sri Lanka the Secretary General Of the International Federation Of Red Cross is due to meet President Maithripala Sirisena and other higher officials of the Sri Lankan Government.He is also due to visit the Post Conflict Recovery Programme of Sri Lanka Red Cross Society operated in Northern Sri Lanka.

Sixty Three Prisoners At Magazine Prison In Welikada Staged A Hunger Strike

A Group Of Prisoners numbering 63 at  Magazine Prison in Welikada had staged a one day  hunger strike yesterday(29) to support the 13 Political Prisoners at the Magazine Prison who are on   a Hunger Strike since 23rd of February by demanding authorities to expedite the court cases against them.

The 13 Political Prisoners who are on  Hunger Strike since  23rd of February were arrested under the Terrorism Prevention Act.

A 19 Year Old Female With A Haul Of Heroin Weighing Over 14 Grammes Had Been Arrested In Mount Lavinia

The Fraud Control Unit Of the Mount Lavinia Police have yesterday(29) arrested a 19 year old female  with a haul of  Heroin weighing 14 Grammes and 750 Mili Grammes in her possession near Badowita Bridge in Mount Lavinia.

The suspected female  is due to be produced before Mount Lavinia Magistrate Court and Mount Lavinia Police are conducting further investigation on the incident.

"Rat Control Month "Has Been Declared In The Colombo City

The Public Health Department of the Colombo Urban Council has been declared a Month Of Rat Control with effect from today(29) in view of destroying the increasing number of Rat Population in the Colombo City according to Chief Medical Officer Of Health in Colombo Dr.Ruwan Wijemuni.

Under the Rat Control Month the Public Health Department has today begun distributing 250,000 soap type Rat Control Method which destroying Rats to houses and Institutes which are at risk of escalating the rat population Dr.Wijemuni has said.

The Rat Population is rapidly increasing in Colombo City since few months due to the shortage of soap type Rat Control Method which the Public Health Department has used in the past  to control Rats in the city the Colombo Chief Medical Officer has stressed.

"Now we have received the Soap Type Rat Control Method and distributing them to the relevant Houses and Institutions in Colombo City in view of controlling the rat population " he has said.

Colombo Fort.Pettah Manning Market,Borella Super Market and Maradana have been identified as places in Colombo City where the rat population is rapidly increasing.

Due to the increasing number of rat population there's a risk of  spreading  rat related diseases like "Leptospirosis"(Rat Fever),Tetanus,Rabies and The Plague Dr.Wijemuni has further said.

President Sirisena Has Instructed The Officials To Set A Maximum Retail Price For 50 KG Fertilizer Bag

President Maithripala Sirisena  has today(29) instructed the Officials to set the maximum retail price of a 50 Kilo Gramme Fertilizer Bag at Rs.2500 with immediate effect  for the benefit of farmers according to the Presidential Media Division.

President Sirisena has earlier said he will be  personally dedicated to providing the fertilizer subsidy for the local farmers.

Two Schools In Mihintale Had Temporarily Closed Due To A Wild Elephant

Two Schools in Ukkulankulama Area in Mihintale(In North Central Province)  had temporarily closed today(29) due to a Wild Elephant entering  the Area had begun to destroy the things around him for hours according to the reports.

Due to the rampage of the Wild Elephant two schools near by had closed as a precautionary measure and the schools are due to re open tomorrow(01).

The Wild Life Officials who arrived at the scene this evening  are attempting to chased the Wild Elephant away to the forest the sources have said.

Government Has Decided To Increase The Import Tax On Big Anions And Potatoes

The Government has decided to increase the Import Tax on Big Anions and Potatoes with effect from midnight tonight in view of protecting local Big Anion and Potato Farmers according to Government Sources.

President Maithripala Sirisena has already instructed the Finance Ministry  to increase the relevant import tax the sources have said.

However the increased amount of the Import Tax imposed on Big Anions and Potatoes not revealed yet.

Three Children Were Killed And Four Injured Due To A Three Wheeler-Tipper Truck Collision

Three Children who were travelling in a Three Wheeler killed and Four others in the Vehicle were injured  due to the  Three Wheeler colliding  with a Tipper Truck at Bandaragama-Kesbawa Road in Welmilla Area(In Western Province) this evening.

At the time of the accident Seven persons including the three deceased children were inside the Three Wheeler according to the Police.The Injured were admitted to the Bandaragama Hospital for treatment.

Two boys and a girl from Athurugiriya Area travelling in the Three Wheeler had died due the accident.

According to the Police the overloaded Three Wheeler had collided the head on the Tipper Truck during the accident. .The Police had arrested the Tipper Truck  Driver regarding the accident and he is due to be produced before Magistrate Court tomorrow(01).
