Sri Lanka Medical Association has requested the Ministry Of Health,Nutrition And Indigenous Medicine to strengthen the current guidelines and procedures of the country related to human organ transplant programmes including the implementation of National Open Donor Programme for deceased donor organ transplants to avoid trafficking of human organs if any for the purpose of transplantation in Sri Lanka.It is important to strengthen the capacity of ethics committees in local hospitals to implement these guidelines and monitor these transplantation programmes Medical Association has said.
