The Second Reading of the 2016-Annual Budget has been passed at Parliament today(02) with a majority of 107 Votes .A total number of 159 MP's have been voted in favor of the Budget while 52 voted against it.
The Party represent the Opposition Leader of the House Sambandhan, Tamil National Alliance(TNA) ,the party leaders who have earlier supported former President Mahinda Rajapakshe ,leader of the Ceylon Workers Congress(CWC) Arumugam Thondaman,leader of the Ealam Peoples Democratic Party(EPDP) Douglas Devananda and United Peoples Freedom Alliance(UPFA) MP Lakashman Seneviratne have voted in favor of the Budget Proposals.
Leftist Janatha Wimukthi Peramuna(JVP) and several UPFA MP's representing joint opposition supporting former President Mahinda Rajapakshe have voted against the Budget.
Thirteen MP'S Including former President Mahinda Rajapakshe and Venerable Athuraliye Rathana Thero were absent during the voting.
The debate of the second reading of 2016-Budget has conducted for nine days before the voting held today and the Committee Stage or the third reading of the Budget is due to be commenced tomorrow(03).
The Committee Stage debate is scheduled to be held for 15 days and the voting of the third reading is due to be taken place on 19th of December.
