The Parliament has today(03) approved the government's proposal of increasing the number of Cabinet Ministers and Deputy Ministers/State Ministers of the newly formed Unitary Government by a majority of 127 votes.
The proposal was passed with 143 MP'S have voted in favor and 16 MP'S against it.63 MP'S were absent during the vote.MP'S from Mahajana Eksath Peramuna,Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna ,National Freedom Front and MP Udaya Gammanpila have voted against the proposal.
Under the 19th Amendment passed at the Parliament recently the number of Cabinet Ministers should not be exceeded more than 30 and number of Deputy Ministers/State Ministers should not be exceeded 40.The new proposal which was Passed with majority of votes today has proposed to increase the number of Cabinet Ministers of the Unitary Government by 30 to 48 and the number of Deputy Ministers from 40 to 45.
If the government wants to increase the number of Cabinet and Deputy/State Ministers of a Unitary Government it can be increased through the approval of Parliament.
