The General Election to appoint a new Parliament is scheduled to be held on 17th of August according to the Government Sources.President has dissolved the Parliament with effect from midnight today(26).According to the Gazette Notification printed by the Government Printer regarding the General Election the Parliamentary Election will be held on 17th of August and the newly elected Parliament is schedule to convene on 01st of September.
The nominations for the general election are due to accept between 06th to 15th of July.
Earlier the Government has announced that President Sirisene will dissolve the parliament after the passing of 20th amendment on new electoral reforms.
