Seventy percent of Dengue Patients reported from Colombo City in 2011 were Children in School Going age and under 5 years according to chief MOH of Colombo Dr.Pradeep Kariyawasam.Around 3150 Dengue Patients were reported from Colombo City last year which was the highest number of Dengue Patients reported from a City while 28 patients died due to the disease.
Out of this total number of Dengue Patients 45 percent were in School Going age and another 25 percent were under 5 years of age Dr.Kariyawasam has said.
The Dengue Mosquito Breeding Places seen in Schools and Flats within Colombo City caused this situation he stressed.The Public Health Department of Colombo Municipal Council will taken stern action against those responsible for maintaining Mosquito Breeding places in their backyard Dr.Kariyawasam has further added.
The first ever Mosquito Control Week of this year is scheduled to be held from 16-22 of January.
