There's a sudden breakdown of power supply which occurred throughout the island last night since 12.30 a.m.An error in the main power supply system  has caused this sudden breakdown which prevailed for few hours according to Ceylon Electricity Board.

An Individual Had Robbed Rs.5.5 Million From A Private Bank

A person came from a motor bike had robbed Rs.5.5 million from a private bank at Dharmapala Mawatha (In Colombo City) this morning and fled away according to police.

The robber was covered his face with a helmet and attacked the security guard who was there in front of the bank and robbed  the money police have said.

The injured security guard has been admitted to Colombo National Hospital for treatment.The Criminal Investigations Department(CID) is conducting further investigations on the incident.

A Female Was Trampled To Death By Wild Elephant At Siyambalanduwa Area

A 80 year old female was trampled to death by a wild elephant in Galigamuwa at Siyambalanduwa (Up Country)this morning according to Police.The deceased female was a resident of Lassanagama,Galigamuwa.

The remains of the deceased have been removed to  Siyambalanduwa Hospital for autopsy the police have said.

President Sirisena Met UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon In New York

President Maithripala Sirisena who is  now in New York,United States Of America to address the 70th sessions of the United Nations General Assembly had met UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon few hours ago and held talks with him.

Before the meeting with UN Secretary General ,President Sirisena had met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Singh Modi,Swiss President Simonetta Sommaruga and International Red Cross Society President Peter Maurer and conducted bi lateral talks with them according to the foreign media reports.

A Historical Artillery Gun Has Been Discovered At A Hotel Project Site In Colombo

A 26 feet long  part of a historical artillery gun has been discovered during excavations at a hotel project in Galle Face area ,Colombo according to  the military spokesman brigadier jayanath jayaweera.


The workers of the private owned construction company which launched the hotel project in galle face were reported as made this discovery during the excavations at a construction site of the project.

The archaeological department along with sri lanka army due to research further on this new discovery.

Minuwangoda Magistrate Has Ordered To Remand The Main Suspect Of Five Year Old Girl's Murder

Minuwangoda Magistrate has today(26) ordered to remand the main suspect of  five year 
year  old "seya sadewmini's murder at kotadeniyawa ,Dunesh Priyashantha alias "kondaya" until 05th    of October .

The suspect was produced before the Minuwangoda Magistrate Court today(26)."Kondaya" who was arrested by CID on 23rd of September from a forest area in Gampaha District was sent yesterday(25) to Negambo Judicial Medical Officer (JMO) for a medical test.

Five Year old Seya Sadewmini was sexually molested and strangled to death near her house at kotadeniyawa two weeks ago.

The Wattala Police have  yesterday(25) arrested five suspects allegedly connected to an International Drug Smuggling Network with Rs.25 million worth heroin in their possession at Wattala.

Ministry Of Education Has Decided To Uplift Sanitary Care Facilities Of 1200 Schools.

The Ministry Of Education has decided to implement a national programme before the end of this month in view of uplifting the sanitary care facilities of around 1200 schools which are not having formal sanitary Care  facilities.

As an initial step of this programme the Ministry is due to grant Rs.2 million each for the selected 1200 schools situated throughout the island to improve their sanitary care facilities.

Providing Pure Drinking Water ,Building high standard toilet facilities and introducing hygienically cleaning system for the selected schools are due to be implemented under this programme according to the Education Ministry .

The aim of this national programme is to create a healthy school community inside  schools.

Three Persons Died And Another Three Are Missing Due To A Landslide In Kotmale


Around three persons died and another three are missing due to a landslide occurred in Wedamulla Estate at Kotmale Area (In Central Hills)this evening.


The bodies of the three deceased have been recovered from the rubble according to police.Several line houses in the estate are reported as damaged due to the landslide.The heavy showers prevailed in the area throughout the day may have caused the landslide the police have said.



Police Have Decided Not To Bring The Main Supect Of Five Year Old Girl's Murder To Kotadeniyawa As Public Launched Protests

The Police have decided not to bring the main suspect of  five year old Seya Sadewmini's murder today(25)  to  Kotadeniyawa in view of  gathering  evidence regarding the murder  ,as a large number of residents in the area are protesting against the suspect  since this morning.

The 32 year old main suspect who was arrested from a forest area in Gampaha District(In Western Province) on last Wednesday is due to be taken today to the place in kotadeniyawa where the murder was happened.

Additional Police and Special Task Force Personal are deployed in the area to keep law and order.


Four Persons Killed Due To A Three Wheeler-Bus Collision

Four Persons including two females have been killed this morning due to a Three Wheeler-Bus collision occurred at Koskadawila Junction in Athurugiriya(In Western Province) According to the Police.


One person who got injured due to the accident  was admitted to Thalangama Hospital and the bodies of the deceased are placed in Thalangama and Homagama Hospitals.

The Sri Lankan Embassy in Saudi Arabia has said this evening there are no reports on Sri Lankans among st the victims who were killed in a stampede occurred at Islamic Holy City Of Mecca today(24).

Another Suspect Was Arrested Over The Murder Of Five Year Old Girl

Another suspect of the rape and murder of five year old seya sadewmini of Kotadeniyawa Area has been arrested by the Police yesterday(23) at a forest area in Gampaha District(In Western Province).

The suspect was arrested through a joint operation carried out by Criminal Investigation Department(CID) and several police teams with the help of residents in the area according to Police.

Another two suspects  including a marijuana addicted 17 year old school boy have already been in remand  over the murder of the girl .

Former MP Sajin Vaas Gunawardena Was Released On Bail

The imprisoned former MP of United Peoples Freedom Alliance(UPFA) Sajin Vaas Gunawardena who is in remand for allegedly misusing state owned vehicles belonging to presidential secretariat  during previous government  has granted bail by Colombo High Court  yesterday(23).

 The bail application submitted yesterday by Sajin Vaas was accepted by Colombo High Court Judge Manilal Waidyathilake and the imprisoned former MP was released on two personal bails of Rs.20 million each and a cash bail of Rs.1 Million.

Earlier Former MP Gunawardene who was arrested and remanded on 11th of May has been remanded until 06th of October by the Colombo Fort Magistrate Court regarding the case filed

Special Commodity Levy Imposed On Imported Edible Oil Has Been Increased From Today

Providing relief to local Coconut Industry has  behind this decision the Ministry has said.With the new increase  the special commodity levy imposed on Crude Edible Oil increased to Rs.110 from Rs.90 per Kilo Gramme and levy imposed on Refined Oil increased to  Rs.130 from Rs.110 per Kilo Gramme.

Dementia Is On The Increase Amongs t Sri Lankan Women Over 60 Years Of Age-Dr.Kapila Ranasinghe

"Dementia " a disease caused due to destroying  neuro cells in the brain is  on the increase among st Sri Lankan Elderly Women over the age of 60 years according to the Consultant Psychiatrist attach to National Mental Institute Dr.Kapila Ranasinghe.

Although both males and females over the age of 60 years are usually prone to Dementia ,the disease is high among st Sri Lankan Women belonging to the above age group due to hormone problems Dr.Ranasinghe has said.

Addressing a Media Seminar held at Health Education Bureau in Colombo today(23) Dt.Kapila Ranasinghe has stressed that around 5 % to 6% out of the total Sri Lankan Population estimated as suffering from Dementia according to a latest survey.

The main symptoms of Dementia Disease are Loss of the Memory(Forgetting the daily activities regularly ,if someone lost his/her belongings they suspect someone might have stolen those,),Changes in daily routine ,Behavioral Changes including screaming,sleeping disorder known as Insomnia ,Living in isolation ,Restlessness ,Believing in Myths ,Dr.Ranasinghe has revealed.

Dementia is seen among st Sri Lankan males and females below 60 years of age as well he has stressed. "If someone is having the symptoms given above he/she should be directed to medical treatment with immediate effect to avoid getting  patient become paralyzed or totally out of
control " Dr.Ranasinghe said.

Officers Of Presidential Commission Of Inquiry Have Visited Former President To Record A Statement

The Presidential Commission Of Inquiry has recorded a statement from fromer president Mahinda Rajapaksha this morning regarding Rs.200 Million loss reported from a State Media Institution due to broadcast advertisements of former president rjapaksha without payments and not broadcasting President Maithripala Sirisena's paid advertisements during the Presidential Election period .

Although the former president was informed to be present at Presidential Commission Of Inquiry today to record the statement ,the commission officers have visited former president at his residance in Mirihana (In Colombo) to get  the statement.
