A Risk Of Spreading Malaria In Sri Lanka Through Foreigners-Anti Malaria Campaign

There's a great risk of spreading Malaria in Sri Lanka through the foreigners who are returning to the country from countries like India the Director of the Anti Malaria Campaign Dr.Risintha Premaratne has said today(21).During 2013-2014 period 144 local and foreign Malaria Patients were identified on their arrival at the Katunayake International Air Port and the  Sea Ports in Northern Province  he has stressed.Out of these patients 95 were identified in 2013 and 49 were identified in 2014.

At present the spreading rate of Malaria in Sri Lanka is zero and to keep that rate continuously there's a need to prevent entering malaria to the country from other countries Anti Malaria Campaign Director has stressed.

Dr.Premaratne has made these remarks during  the press briefing held today at the Government Information Department in Narahenpita.

Opposition Parties Have Decided To Bring A No Confidence Motion Against The Finanace Minister

The former Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena has said today(21) that the opposition has decided to bring a no confidence motion against the finance minister Ravi Karunanayake .

Meanwhile Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake has  said today that he will accept the no confidence motion challenge   and expecting the opposition  to table the no confidence motion  as soon as possible. 

Tense Situation Has Postponed The Parliamentary Debate On 19th Amendment

Due to the tense situation occurred at the Parliament during last two days regarding the bribery allegations leveled against the former President ,the 19th Amendment Draft Bill which was scheduled to be taken in to debate today(21) has been postponed until next Monday(27) the leader of the House Lakshman Kiriella has announced.The Draft Bill is scheduled to be presented to the Parliament on next Monday he has further added.

Meanwhile after 113 opposition MP's have signed and handed over a letter to the President Maithrpala Sirisena to protest the bribery commission's decision to summon former president Rajapakshe at the commission ,President Sirisena has arrived to the Parliament today and discussed the matter with party leaders it has been revealed.

The opposition leader MP Nimal Siripala De Silva has urged the government to  remove director general of the Bribery Commission who caused the tense situation at parliament.

Former Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapakshe Has Arrived In Sri Lanka To Answer Bribery Allegations

The Former Minister of Economic Development and younger brother of the former President Mahinda Rajapakshe has arrived in Sri Lanka this noon from USA via Dubai to give a statement to the Bribery Commission  regarding the bribery allegations leveled against him at the commission.The Bribery Commission had earlier made a request to him to appear before the commission to answer the allegations.

The Former Minister who was also the former National Organizer of the main opposition Sri Lanka Freedom Party has been  sacked from his post soon after the former president has lost thPresidential Elections.Soon after the results of the Presidential Elections  have announced on 09th of January this year Basil Rajapakshe had left  for USA with his wife through

Bribery Commission Officials To Visit Former President Rajapakshe To Record A Statement -Justice Minister

Amidst demonstrations of a group of Parliamentarians inside the Parliament House ,the Justice Minister Wijedasa Rajapakshe has announced today (21) at  Parliament that the Bribery Commission will not summon the  former President Mahinda Rajapakshe to the commission as earlier planned and instead of that the officials of the Bribery Commission will visit him and record a statement regarding the bribery allegations leveled against him .

Due to the heated words exchanged between government and opposition MP'S Speaker Chamal Rajapakshe had adjourned the sessions twice in the morning and evening for 15 minutes and 30 minutes respectively.

Meanwhile the a group of Opposition United Peoples Freedom Alliance(UPFA) Parliamentarians have staged their demonstration inside the parliament today as well while another group provincial councilors and supporters of former President Mahinda Rajapakshe had staged a protest near the Parliamentary Junction despite the court has banned conducting protest campaigns at the junction.

The Police have obtained a court order from the Kaduwela Magistrate Court to prevent holding such protest campaigns in front of the Parliamentary Junction.The court order has been read out to the protesters gathered at the junction  by the police officers .However the group of protesters have stayed there and shouted slogans against the bribery commission's decision to summon former president to the commission.

State Owned Sathosa Limited Has Earned Record breaking Profit During This New Year Season

The state owned Lanka Sathosa Limited has earned Rs.2.3 billion as the profit by selling consumer commodities during the Sinhala And Tamil New Year Season from 01st of April to 13th of April 2015 according to the Sathosa Chairman Kiran Atapattu."The profit earnings of Sathosa during  this new year season had increased by Rs.300 million when compared to the profit earnings of the same period last year Mr.Atapattu has said.

Lanka Sathosa has been established as a marketing chain throughout the island  to provide good quality  essential commodities to the consumers for reasonable prices.

Wesak Alms Giving Centers(Dansal) In Colombo City To Be Registered Before 30th Of April

The Colombo Public Health Department attach to the Colombo Municipal Council has decided to register all the Wesak Alms Giving Centers(Dansal) scheduled to be opened withing the Colombo City Limits during forthcoming Wesak Season in May.All the Organizers of these Alms Giving Centers are requested to fill a form available with  the  chief Public Health Inspector in Colombo Public Health Department and handover on or before 30th of this month.

The Registered Alms Giving Centers will receive a registration certificate from the public health department to keep with them during the period the centers are functioning.Most of the Wesak Alms Giving Centers are organized  in the City Of Colombo.

Those Alms Giving Centers which are not registered will be shut down with immediate effect according to the Colombo Chief Medical Officer Dr.Ruwan Wijemuni.The aim of this
programme is to ensure the providing of  quality food and drinks through these Wesak Alms Giving Centers Dr.Wijemuni has said.

Even if a registered Alms Giving Center found as serving  food or drinks which are not suitable for human consumption , a legal action will be taken against such centers under the food act he has stressed.

A Tense situation has occurred this morning at the Parliament as a group of Parliamentarians have sat on the house floor and started a demonstration against the Bribery Commission's decision to summon former president Mahinda Rajapaksha.

Director General Of Bribery Commission Has Been Summoned In Parliament

The Director General of the Bribery Commission Dilrukshi Wikramasinha has been summoned in Parliament as to  inquire why the commission have summoned   former President Mahinda Rajapakshe to  the bribery commission  according to the deputy speaker Chandima Weerakody.Speaker Chamal Rajapakshe has also due to make a special statement to the Parliament tomorrow(21) regarding this matter he has said.

The former President Rajapakshe has been informed to appear before the bribery commission on 24th of April regarding an allegation leveled against him over offering a bribe.His brother and the former Defense Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksha has been also informed to be appeared before the bribery commission on 23rd and 27th of April.

Political Party Leaders Agreed To Conduct The Parliamentary Debate On 19th Amendment

All Political Party Leaders have today (19) agreed to conduct the Parliamentary Debate on  19th Amendment Draft Bill during  21st (Tuesday) and 22nd (Wednesday) of April.The sections of the 19th Amendment Draft Bill which have been approved by the Supreme Court will be discussed during this debate it has been reported.

A  meeting of all Political Party Leaders was held this evening under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wikramasinha.

Meanwhile the leftist Janatha Wimukthi Peramuna has announced today that they will support the government to pass the 19th Amendment Draft Bill.

Seventeen Years Old Teenage Lovers Have Been Committed Suicide By Jumping From Diyaluma Falls

A 17 years old Teenage Lovers have  committed suicide this evening by jumping from top of the Sri Lanka's second highest perennial water fall , Diyaluma Falls located in Central Hills according to the Police.Before committing suicide the teenage  girl and boy have phoned and informed one of their relatives on their act it has been revealed.

During the search operations Police have so far recovered
 one body .

The Diyaluma Water Falls is 628 feet high and it's the 361st  highest  water falls in the world.

Police Crimes Division Has Begun Questioning A Buddhist Monk Over Distributing Religious Cloths During Presidential Elections Campaign

The Police Financial Crimes Investigations Division has today (18) begun questioning from  Former Coordinating Secretary to the President Venerable Watinapaha Somananda Thero over distributing Rs.600 million worth Cloths wearing for religious purposes in Temples (Sil Redi)  during the election campaign of recently concluded Presidential Elections.These cloths were bought from the money belonging to the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission and distributed among elderly people visiting temples sources have  said.

Today Police Crimes Division has questioned the said Thero for six hours the sources have added.

Former JVP Leader To Form A New Party Soon

The former leader and the International Affairs Secretary of the leftist Janatha Wimukthi Peramuna-JVP(Peoples Liberation Front) Somawansha Amarasinha who have resigned from the Party few days back has said today(18) that he will not re joining the Party even the JVP Leaders are  currently approaching him to change his decision.

According to the former JVP Leader, forming of a new party will be his first choice .Although JVP has become  the hope of the people recently due to the Party's stand against the fraud and corruption activities in the state sector JVP not able to use that opportunity in proper way  Mr.Amarasinha has stated.


Government To Convene A Party Leaders Meeting On Monday Prior To The 19th Amendment Debate

The Government has decided to convene a Party Leaders meeting on this Monday(20) to further discuss on the 19th Amendment Draft Bill prior to opening of the Parliamentary Debate regarding it.The need of this meeting arisen after Opposition Parties have  opposed the new amendments added by the government to the said draft bill during the Party Leaders meeting held yesterday(17).

When the Political Party Leaders meeting was held under the patronage of Deputy Speaker Chandima Weerakkody yesterday government has added several new amendments to the 19th Amendment Draft Bill amidst protests of the opposition parties it has been reported.As the opposition parties are against the adding of new amendments ,government has decided to discuss on the 19th amendment further before it has taken in to debate in Parliament.

While criticizing the government's move opposition parties have urged the government not to change the amendments in 19th Amendment Draft Bill further.The amendment need to be passed in Parliament with two third majority not with the majority of votes in the parliament   the leader of the Mahajana Eksath Peramuna(MEP) Dinesh Gunawardene has said.

Government has tabled the 19th Amendment Draft Bill  at the Parliament recently which includes the amendments on  reducing the executive powers of the Executive Presidency.

EXCLUSIVE- Ten Out Of Every One Thousand Sex Workers Here Are Found As Infected With HIV/AIDS Virus

A latest survey  reveals that 10 out of every 1000 sex workers in Sri Lanka are infected with HIV/AIDS Virus . According to the Director of National STD (Sexually Transmitted Diseases)/AIDS Campaign Dr.Sisira Liyanage Few years ago only .2 out of 1000 sex workers were infected with HIV Virus.

"Although 90% of the Sri Lankan Sex Workers are using Condoms the number of HIV Infections among st sex workers here are on the increase" Dr.Liyanage has stressed. 

Meanwhile the Population Division in Narahenpita(Colombo) which is a Non Governmental Institute has said that the methods adapted by the National STD /AIDS Campaign when educating sex workers on HIV/AIDS are not sufficient enough to prevent of spreading  HIV/AIDS among them and due to this awareness on HIV/AIDS among sex workers here is at a very low level."The best way to educate sex workers on HIV/AIDS is  doing that through the rehabilitated sex workers "the institute has stated.

According to the National STD/AIDS Campaign around 60 new HIV/AIDS Infections have been reported throughout the island from January to March this year and 7 AIDS Patients have died due to the illness.Majority of the said new HIV Infections are on the ages of 25-45 the campaign has revealed.Sex workers,Male Homosexuals and Beach Boys are identified as the major risk groups prone to HIV/AIDS in Sri Lanka  Dr.Liyanage has said.

Bribery Commission Has Recorded A Statement From Central Bank Governor Over Controversial Treasury Bond Issue

The Bribery Commission has today(16) recorded a statement from the Governor of the Central Bank Arjuna Mahendren over the controversial treasury bond issue .The Sri Lankan born International Banker who was appointed as the Central Bank Governor after President Maithripala Siresena came to power gave a statement to the Bribery Commission from 9 A.M to 3.30 P.M today in connection with the bond issue it has been reported.

The Central Bank Governor was charged on helping a firm of his son in law to make some controversial deals on treasury bonds.

After the case was revealed President Maithrpala Sirisena has appointed a three member committee on last March to probe on the treasury bond issue.

Former JVP Leader Somawansha Amarasinha To Resign From the Party To Form A New Party

The Former leader of the leftist Janatha Wimukthi Peramuna Party  -JVP (Peoples Liberation Front)  and it's  International Affairs Secretary  Somawansha Amarasinhe has today (16) said that he will resign from the Party to form a new Party .Addressing the media at JVP Headquarters in  Palawatte -Colombo Mr.Amarasinha has told that he will submit his resignation letter to the  party very soon.

Speaking on his decision to form a new party after resigning from JVP he has said that the aim of forming a new party is to give some hope to those who are not satisfying with the behavior of JVP .

Security Officers Of The Katunayake Air Port Arrested Two Indian Nationals Who Tried To Smuggle Gold To India

The Security Officers of the Katunayake Bandaranaike International Air Port have today (15) arrested two Indian Nationals  who  tried to smuggle Gold Jewelry weighing 4.2 Kilo Grammes to Chennai India it has been reported.The Gold Jewelry was hidden inside their vests according to the customs.

 It has been estimated that the said stock of gold jewelry  was worth around Rs.2 million.

Former Secretary of the Sri Lanka Cricket Interim Committee Nishantha Ranatunge who is also the younger brother of the Minster Of Ports Arjuna Ranatunge has been questioned by the Police Financial Crimes Investigations Division today (15) over an alleged financial transaction of a Private Sports Channel.The alleged financial transaction said to be  taken place while Nishnatha Ranatunge was the chief executive officer of the said sports channel which is owned by the second son of former president Mahinda Rajapakshe.

The former Cricket Secretary was also charged for  involved in several corrupt deals occurred at  Sri Lanka Cricket Interim Committee when he was the secretary.

Sports Minister Navin Disanayake has already ordered the authorities  to probe on the corrupt activities which said to be occurred in Sri Lanka Cricket during past few years.

Nine Indian Air Ports Have Begun Issuing On Arrival Visas For Sri Lankans Since Yesterday(14)

Sri Lankans who are arriving  nine International Air Ports across India will  receive on arrival visas  with effect from yesterday(14).Through this programme Sri Lanka becomes the 44th country in the world that receiving on arrival visas to India.

Under this Air Ports in Mumabi,Delhi,Chennai,Goa,Kolkata,Hyderabad,Bangalore,Thiruvananthapuram and Cochin will issue Sri Lankan Nationals on arrival visas for 30 days according to government sources.

Indian Prime Minister Narendre Modi has announced during his visit to Sri Lanka last March that Sri Lanka will be added to the list of countries that receive on arrival visas at the Indian Air Ports with effect from 14th of April.

Vegetables In Economic Centers And Outstation Stalls Have Thrown Out To The Jungles Due To Selling Problems

Due to the prices of Vegetables have come down significantly  during this festive season Vegetable Vendors at  Economic Centers and stalls in outstation areas  of the country have thrown out  their vegetables to jungles during last few days as they were not able to sell them it has been revealed.The  vegetables which the vendors are thrown out to the jungles became the meal of wild elephants it has been reported.

During this festive season farmers have supplied excessive  amount of vegetables to the market and as a result the prices of these vegetables come down significantly it has been reported.During last four days a lone Vendors at Dambulle Economic Center have thrown out around 100,000 Kilos of vegetables to the jungle sources said.

Around 500 Facebook Related Complaints During January To March this year-Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Response Forum

During January To March this year around 500 Facebook related complaints  have been received by the Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Response Forum it has been reported.Out of these complaints around 200 have been received during March alone  according to the Forum.

The majority of these complaints are on fake Facebook Accounts the media spokesman of the forum Roshan Chandragupthe has said.Other complaints are mainly on charges of  some people using others profile pictures Illegally  for their accounts and accessing  to other's Facebook Accounts and trying to change data he has stressed.

Regarding the  complaints on fake Facebook Accounts, Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Response Forum had taken steps to complain on those accounts to the  Facebook Company and suspend them Chandragupthe has further said.

A Sri SrLankan Arrived Colombo From Chennai Was Taken Into Custody With 600 Packets Of Narcotics

A Sri Lankan who arrived Bandaraniake International Air Port in Colombo  from Chennai ,India has been arrested with 600 Packets of Narcotic Drug known as "Hans" by the Police Narcotic Officers today (13).The total weight of the Drug Packets taken in to custody is around 8 Kilo Grammes.

These Packets Of Narcotic Drug were stored inside the suspect's luggage  according to the
Police Narcotic Officers .

Five New Members Appointed To The SLFP Central Committee By Replacing Four Sacked Members

The President of the main opposition Sri Lanka Freedom Party(SLFP)  President Maithripala Sirisena had appointed five  new members to the Party's Central Committee today(13) replacing the four central committee members who were sacked yesterday(12).

The new appointees Western Provincial Councilor of Kolonnawa Hirunika Premachandre,Minister Arjuna Ranathunge,Prassanna Solanga arachchi, Ediriweera Weerawardene and state minister Nandimithra Ekanayake will replaced the sacked members former ministers Bandula Gunawardene,T.B Ekanayake,S.M Chandrasene and Salinda Disanayake.

The main reason behind the sacking of Four  SLFP Central Committee members is mainly their campaign to   bring back former president mahinda rajapakshe as the Prime Ministerial Candidate of the party.

Dambulle Hospital Authorities Have Handed Over A Fake Doctor To The Police

Authorities of the Dambulle Hospital have today (12) handed over a fake Doctor to the Police after he    tried to enter  the Hospital Theater in Cesarean Section ,The fake doctor who is a resident in Madirigiriya (North Central Province) tried to enter the theater by carrying a stethoscope when the chief surgeon who came out from the theater at that time identified him as a fake doctor it has been reported.

The Fake Doctor has tried to enter the theater by stating that  he is going to perform a surgery hospital sources have said.

Nine Hundred Six Acres Of High Security Zone Lands In Jaffna Were Distributed Amongst Owners

The Authorities in Jaffna have  yesterday (11) distributed 906 Acres of Land in the Jaffna high security zones among st  the first owners  under the government's programme to distribute high security zone lands to there owners.These lands have been distributed to the owners after 27 years according to the government sources.

Yesterday alone lands situated in 9  Grama Niladari Divisions in Jaffna District were  distributed among st  first owners.Distributed lands were situated in Kankasanthurai South,Thelipplai,Northern Palai,Southern Palai,Kattuwan,Thenmailai,Waruthawillan,Palali South,Kopai and Walai Areas.

Distributing of High Security Zone Lands in Jaffna To the first owners is one of the election promises made by the present government during recently concluded Presidential Elections.
