A Batch Of "Cloxacillin' Injection Vials Removed From South Colombo Hospital After Glass Piece Contaminated Vial Was Found

A piece of glass was found inside in "cloxacillin"  injection vial stored at South Colombo Hospital (Kalubowila Teaching Hospital) according to hospital sources.after  consultants were complained on this to the hospital director, hospital authorities removed around 600 "Cloxacillin" injection vials from use belongs to the batch number JA-6125018.

According to the director of south Colombo teaching hospital Dr.Asela Gunawardena the glass piece contaminated injection vial was sent to the national drug quality assurance laboratory for a quality test.the injection vials temporarily removed were manufactured in India on September 2012  and due to expire on August 2012.

meanwhile the medical supplies division has instructed all government hospitals throughout the island  to remove the cloxacillin injection vials belongs to the given batch number from use with immediate effect  till issuing the lab report.

Well Renowned Cricketer And Commentator Tony Greig Dies From Lung Cancer

A well renowned cricket commentator and former English Cricket Captain Tony Greig (66)has died from a lung cancer this morning.Greig who was born in South Africa was initially diagnosed with bronchitis last May and later was diagnosed with lung cancer.he was attached to Channel 9 television cricket commentary team in Australia.

Late Tony Greig was a popular celebrity in Sri Lanka due to his love of Sri Lankan Cricket and he was   once appointed as the tourism ambassador to promote tourism in Sri Lanka.

39 Died And 40,000 Affected Due To Adverse Weather Condition Experienced Throughout The The Island

Around 39 people died and 400,000 affected  due to adverse weather condition experienced throughout the island since last few weeks the disaster management center (DMC)has announced.some areas in hill country and north central province are the worst affected areas due to earth slips and floods.falling of rocks to the roads were also reported in some areas.

Nearly 40,000 displaced people are reported as residing  in 242 camps situated throughout the island.due to the adverse weather conditions around 7 people have gone missing and 20 were injured up to now DMC has stated.meanwhile the flood situation in some areas are reported as receding.

Cardio Thoracic Surgeries Performs In Sri Jayawardenapura Hospital Have Suspended

All Cardio Thoracic Surgeries performs in Sri Jayawardenapura Teaching Hospital in Colombo  have suspended for a one week period due to the installation  of new Air Condition System at two operation theaters in hospital  according to jayawardenapura hospital sources.the installation  of new air conditioners is due to complete by early  next week.

Although cardio thoracic surgeries are not performed in Sri Jayawardanapura Hospital these days heart patients who are due to under go surgeries are admitted to hospital as usual hospital sources further said.

Appeals Court Has Issued Notices For PSC Members On PSC Findings Against Chief Justice

The appeals court has today(21)issued notices for the respondents including Parliament Speaker Chamal Rajapaksha of the case filed by Chief Justice Dr.Mrs.Shirani Bandaranaike by challenging findings of the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) appointed to probe on impeachment motion against her.speaker Chamal Rajapaksha ,General Secretary of Parliament and all members of PSC were issued notices returnable on 03rd of January.

The petition filed by Chief Justice on Wednesday through a legal firm requested the appeal court to issue an injunction order barring the recommendations by PSC report from being implemented.

Adverse Weather Pattern Inundated Several Areas And Land Slide Warnings Issued To Hill Country Areas

ns Around 21,000 people were severely affected in Several Districts throughout the island due to adverse weather pattern experienced since last few days it has been reported.  Five Districts were announced as  inundated due to the prevailing adverse weather Conditions and land slide warnings are issued to another 4 districts according to Disaster Management Center(DMC).the areas in Ampara,Batticloe,Polonnaruwa,Kurunagala and Hambanthota Districts were inundated due to the bad weather.

Meanwhile DMC has issued land slide warnings to districts of Kandy,Matale,Badulla and Nuwara Eliya Districts.

Six sluice gates in the Rajanganya,Inginimitiya and Udawalawe Reservoirs have been opened as a result of rising water levels it has been reported.

National Building Research Organization has also issued warning that there will  be risk of land slides and rock falls in hill country areas if the rain fall continues in next 24 hours.

Meanwhile train services on the Northern and Central Lines were terminated at Kurunagala and Nanu Oya due to flooding and derailment in several locations Sri Lanka Railways has announced.a train service between Idalgashinna and Ohiya on the upcountry railway line was derailed due to an earth slip it has announced.

Due to the adverse weather pattern experienced in several parts of the country more than 9 people including infants were died due to rock/tree falls and earth slips during last few days.

Bar Association To Not To Support A New Chief Justice If Incumbant Chief Justice Is Removed Without A Fair Trial

While the Bar Association Of Sri Lanka(BASL) has passed three resolutions yesterday (15) on not to support a newly appointed Chief Justice if the  incumbent Chief Justice Dr.Mrs Shirani Bandaranaike is removed without conducting a fair trial ,the vice president of the association Anoma Gunathilake has announced her resignation as a protest over not passing resolutions through a ballot.

The Bar Association Meeting was conducted upon a request signed by  400 of it's members has passed three resolution on chief justice by showing hands of it's members without holding a ballot.a tense situation was a risen due to this situation which was later brought under control.

Professions Supplementary To Medicine To Launch Two Day Strike Acton Next Week

The Professions Supplementary To Medicine(PSM'S) attached to government hospitals have decided to launch a two day island wide strike  on next Tuesday (18) and Wednesday(19) by demanding solutions for 10 of their service demands. PSM'S compromising Government Pharmacists,Radiographers,Medical Laboratory Technologists(MLT's) ,Physiotherapists and occupational therapists are due to participate this two day strike according to Joint Council Of Professions Supplementary To Medicine.

However PSM'S attached to Castle Street Maternity Hospital,De Soyza Maternity Hospital,Cancer Hospital Maharagama,Lady Ridgway Children's Hospital and Sirimawo Bandaranaike Memorial Children's Hospital will not participate this strike due to humanitarian reasons the joint Council has stated.

The  PSM's have demanding solutions for 10 service demands including increase of their allowances,recruiting unemployed graduates of  professions supplementary to medicine and implementing delayed promotions of grade 1 PSM'S .

Health Ministry Has Freed 28 Personal Who Were Found Guilty For Using Expired Blood Kits

The Ministry Of Health has taken steps to free Twenty Eight members attached to  National Blood Transfusion Center in Colombo including former head of the center Dr.Mrs.Mangalika Bindusara from all charges which they have found guilty regarding issuing of expired Plasma Pherasis and A Pherasis Blood Transfusion Kits for  patients .

The Ministry has taken this decision  according to a  recommendation made by public services commission health ministry sources said.the 28 respondents including a group of doctors were found guilty on issuing of Rs 2.5 million worth  expired blood kits for the patients in the year 2008  through a preliminary investigations carried out by special investigations unit of the Ministry.after examining the report then health ministry secretary Dr.Atula Kahanda Liyanage has suspended all those  found guilty  from their services while referring the report to PSC.

Massive Protest Against Report On Chief Justice

A massive protest  organized by political party members and trade unions  in front of Lipton circus this evening  has caused closing down of several roads in the area.the protest was held to oppose  the report submitted by parliamentary select committee (PSC) against chief justice Dr.Mrs.Shirani Bandaranaike .

The protestors were seen carrying posters stating that through the impeachment motion government has trying to destroy independent judiciary .

PSC Probed On Impeachment Motion Against Chief Justice Handed Over The Report To Speaker

Despite all opposition members withdrawn from the committee yesterday (07)the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC)probing impeachment motion against Chief Justice Dr.Mrs.Shirani Bandaranaike has presented the report on  it's findings to the Parliamentary Speaker Chamal Rajapaksha this morning.

The report which was presented to the speaker by PSC Chairman government MP Anura Priyadarshana Yapa contains evidences given by 16 witnesses on 2 charges out of 14 charges made against chief justice through the impeachment motion it has been reported.

The speaker Chamal Rajapaksha has informed  Parliament that the  debate on PSC report will begin in one month time after 08th of January next year.speaker has allocated 10 days to begin the debate.after the debate the report is scheduled to be passed with simple majority according to Parliamentary Sources.

Meanwhile the opposition members who withdrawn from PSC yesterday claimed that the 11 member PSC does not follow formal procedures,

Opposition Members Of PSC Follows CJ'S Move By Withdrawn From The Committe

As chairman of the 11 member Parliamentary Selection Committee (PSC) probing the charges in impeachment motion against chief justice Dr.Mrs.Shirani Bandaranaike  has rejected the conditions made by opposition members of PSC all opposition members of the committee withdrawn from proceedings yesterday(08).meanwhile all opposition members in Parliament staged a walk out yesterday evening as a protest on PSC's refusal of  the conditions made by opposition members .  chairman of PSC government MP Anura Priyadarshan Yapa has refused to accept condition made by opposition members to remain in the panel further.

As a protest supposition members United National Party (UNP) MP's John Amaratunge and Lakashman Kirialle ,Tamil National Alliance(TNA) MP R.Sampanthan and Democratic National Alliance(DNA) MP Vijitha Herath were withdrawn from the proceedings of the committee.

Meanwhile group of government MP's claimed the withdrawal of  chief justice and opposition MP's from PSC is a tactical move.

Chief Justice Walked Away From PSC Hearing Citing.....

Chief Justice Dr.Mrs.Shirani Bandaranike has walked out from the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC)hearing this evening citing lack of faith the way PSC is handling the hearing it has been reported.her lawyers too have informed the PSC members that they have no faith on the way committee has handling the case and would not participate the proceedings hereafter.

Mrs.Bandaranaike was attended the PSC hearing  held  today around 2.30 p.m at Parliamentary Complex 1 on 14 financial and personal   misconduct charges leveled against her through  impeachment motion.

It has been reported that there were lot of arguments between two sides during the hearing held from 2.30 -6 p.m to day.the lawyers of chief justice have argued that their client was not provided the relevant documents to prove the charges against her.

Chief Justice has already denied financial charges raised against her through her lawyers.the PSC was hearing impeachment charges against Chief Justice since last month.meanwhile some of  the government politicians and trade unions repeatedly demanding  chief justice mrs.bandaranaike to step down from her post till the PSC hearing concludes.

Two Fetuses Aborted Daily In Sri Lanka Per 3 Infants Born

Two fetuses are aborted  daily for  three infants  born daily in Sri Lanka according to researchers.around 650-750 abortions are taking palce daily in Sri Lanka and majority of these are catagorized as illegal ones.

According to Dr.Chitramalee De Silva the deputy director of Family Health Bureau in Sri Lanka there is a growing demand among married couples who are having two children  on aborting unwanted preganancies.the reasons they are given for this situation are economic difficulties,having completed family and their last child is very small she has  stressed.as abortion is illegal in Sri Lanka lots of maried women who are having unwanted pregnancies turn to illegal abortion centers to terminate their fetus she said.

Meanwhile the marraiges among teanagers  are in increase and this too caused an increase of both unwanted pregnancies and abortions it has been revealed.muslim girls who are known as getting married at the ages of 15 and 16 are contributed to this heavily Dr.Mrs.Silva has said.out of the total number of marraiges taking place in Sri Lanka annualy 6.5 % are teanage marraiges it has been revealed.

These facts were revealed during a media conference held today (05) at Sri Lanka Family Planning Association Auditorium in Colombo on "Ãœnsafe Abortions"

Chief Justice Was Testified On Impeachment motion.

Chief Justice Dr.Mrs.Shirani Bandaranaike has appeared before parliamentary select committee this morning to testified 14 impeachment charges made against her .parliamentary select committee headed by government minister  has convened the second round of hearing on impeachment charges against chief justice this morning.Dr.Mrs.Shirani Bandaranike has denied any financial wrongdoing as raised through the impeachment motion.

The Buddhist Clergy along with other religious dignitaries were  gathered in front of Supreme Court  this morning to blessed the chief justice before she left for the proceedings.

UNP Leader Ranil Wikramasinha Has Extended His Term By 6 Years At The Party Convention

A proposal to extending  the term of   of main opposition  leader Mr.Ranil Wikramasinha(United National Party)  by another 6 years was unanimously passed with majority of votes during the party convention held this morning at United National Party Headquarters in Kotte .during the voting 4978 party members present at the convention voting in favor of  the proposal while 337 members including   deputy UNP Leader MP Sajith Premadasa   voted against it. 
 
Despite opposing the proposal deputy UNP Leader Sajith Premadasa has stated that he will however support Mr.Ranil Wikramasinha if he is contesting the next presidential elections.if mr.wikramasinha does  not contesting  mr.premadasa has stated that he will contest  .

A 4 Member Sri Lankan Family Needs Rs.45,426 As Monthly Expenditure

The chairman of National Trade Union Center Mr.Lal Kantha has said that the monthly expenditure of a 4 member Sri Lankan family  stands as Rs.45,426.50 since last August while government workers are only entitled  a Rs.1500 allowance increment through this years  budget proposals.although government workers are said to be entitled to received the Rs.1500 allowance increment from next January a worker who has received a monthly salary of Rs.20,000 and Rs.10,000  will only receive Rs.1000 and Rs.500 allowance increments respectively.

Speeker Rules Out On Authority Of Out Side Entity Over PSC

Parliamentary Speaker Chamal Rajapaksha has stated yesterday (29)that out side entity has no authority over the speaker,parliament or any other committee appointed by him.he has made these remarks following the statement made by minister Nimal Siripala De Silva  that producing a petition  against parliamentary select committee appointed to investigate the  impeachment motion against chief justice Dr.Mrs.Shirani Bandaranaike is a violation of parliamentary privileges.

Government Has Failed To Find A Single Major Accusation Against Chief Justice -Mr.Lal Kantha

The Government has included 14 different accusations in impeachment motion against chief justice Dr.Mrs.Shirani Bandaranaike after failed to find a single major  accusation against her the  president of National Trade Union Center Mr.Lal Kantha has claimed today(28).the aim of this impeachment motion against chief justice is non other then to destroy the freedom of  judiciary Mr.lal Kantha stressed.

According to him the national trade union center is planning to launch public protest campaigns against impeaching chief justice to protect the sovereignty of judiciary which is must in a democratic society.the government parliamentarians who are members of  the  Parliamentary Select Committee which investigating impeachment motion against chief justice should declare their assets first before accusing chief justice to doing so Mr.Kantha has said.

The impeachment Motion it self becomes a failure as majority of the senior government parliamentarians did not signed the motion  he has further added.Mr.Lal Kantha has revealed this while addressing the function on 15th anniversary of All Ceylon Health Services Trade Union held at Public Library Auditorium today (28th).

A Large Scale Fraudulent Deal Occured During Purchasing Of 100 Fogging Machines

A large scale fraudulent deal had occurred when purchasing of 100 fogging machines for National  Dengue Control programme Health Ministry sources had revealed.Rs.3 million was received by the higher official who was handled this tender deal as the commissions sources added.

The fraudulent tender deal which was entirely handled by a higher official of the National Dengue Control Programme occurred when the authorities handed over the tender of purchasing  said fogging machines to the highest bidder without considering the lowest bidder.

Around 13 bidders were applied for the tender as the lowest bidder has produced a sum of Rs.87,426 per machine.however the tender was offered to the highest bidder for  Rs.148,000 per machine.

Meanwhile few  of  the lowest bidders have  lodged a complaint to the health ministry secretary on this fraudulent tender deal. .

Sri Lanka's First Ever Communication Satellite "Supreme Sat-1" Was Launched Successfully

The first ever Sri Lankan Communication Satellite "Supreme Sat-1" was successfully launched today (27)at 3.43 p.m local time from the Xi-Chang satellite launching center in China according to Supreme Satellite Company - Sri Lanka.the launching of the satellite was earlier scheduled on last Thursday (22) which was later postponed due to the bad weather prevails in China.

The USD 320 million worth satellite co owned by Sri Lankan Company the Supreme Satellite Company is carrying China's long march 3B/E launch vehicle is scheduled to be positioned above Sri Lanka in the Geo Stationary orbit at 87.5 degrees east approximately 36,000 km above the earth surface.

With the launching of this satellite Sri Lanka becomes the 45th country to owned a communication satellite and third South Asian country to launch a satellite after  India and Pakistan.

First Communication Satelitte Of Sri Lanka To Be Launched Tomorrow(27)

Sri Lanka's first ever communication satellite "Supreme Sat -1" which was delayed launching due to bad weather is scheduled to be launched tomorrow(27) at Xi Chang satellite launching center in China.the launching of USD 320 Million worth satellite got delayed for five days since last Thursday due to bad weather experienced in China.

The satellite which was jointly  owned by Supreme Satellite Company in Sri Lanka and Great Wall Corporation in China was due to launched last Thursday evening.

Fire Broke Out In Colombo Divisional Secretariet

Fire Fighters are currently engaged in dousing a fire which broke out at Colombo Divisional Secretariat in Dam Street Colombo short while ago according to Police Sources.the cause of the fire  has not yet revealed.

The First Round Of Impeachment Hearing Against Chief Justice Concluded

The first round of impeachment hearing against chief justice Dr Mrs.shirani bandaranaike was conducted by 11 member parliamentary select committee (PSC) yesterday (24) over alleged financial misconduct .the  committee is scheduled to reconvene the hearing on 04th of December.

Chief Justice Mrs.Bandaranaike was arrived the Parliamentary Complex yesterday for the hearing over 14 charges against her on financial and official misconduct.she was accompanied by  her lawyers and given arousing welcome by a large group of lawyers gathered at supreme court complex in hulftsdorf before  she departs for the hearing.

Earlier Mrs.Bandaranaike was asked to appear alone before the PSC hearing which she has denied and was accompanied by her lawyers for the hearing.

Paliamentary Select Committee To Begin Hearing On Impeachment Motion Against Chief Justice

The Parliamentary Select Committee appointed to investigate on impeachment motion against Chief Justice Dr.Mrs.Shirani Bandaranaike is scheduled to begin investigations today(23).the chief justice is due to appear before the 15 member select committee headed by government minister Anura Priadarshana Yapa.

Meanwhile Supreme Court has requested yesterday to postpone the scheduled parliamentary select committee hearing against the impeachment on chief justice.

Bad Weather Prevents Launching Of Sri Lanka's First Ever Communication Satelitte

The launching of  Sri Lanka's first ever communication satellite "Supreme Sat-1" scheduled to be launched yesterday (22) at xichang satellite launching center in China was postponed for 5 days due to the bad weather conditions prevails in China these days according to co owners of the satellite Supreme Sat Company.

The satellite was due to be launched at 3.43 p.m local time yesterday.the exact date of launching will be announced soon a spokesman of Supreme Sat Company reveals.

Anti Malaria Campaign To Use Genetically Modified Mosquito Breeding Method To Reduce Mosquito Population

Anti Malaria Campaign of Sri Lanka has decided to use newly invented  genetically modified mosquito breeding method to reduce the malaria and dengue mosquito population in the country according to the director of the campaign Dr.Sarath Deniyage.dr deniyage has said that the genetically modified mosquito breeding method is an effective method which has been using countries like Austria,USA,South Africa,Brazil and Cayman Islands .

The Anti Malaria Campaign has decided to research on the said method during next month to find out the possibility  of using it under  Sri Lankan conditions Dr.Deniyage has stressed.under this method genetically modified mosquitoes will breed in thousands at a factory and inject them with cobolt radiation  to stop breeding mosquito population.due to  this when after these mosquitoes are released to the environment they will not able to breed mosquitoes as the larvae will be killed before even born due to the radiation.this process is to be continue around 3 years to get positive results Anti Malaria Campaign has said,

According to the foreign media reports the countries which  have used  this method were able to reduced it's mosquito population by 90% after a period of six months.Brazil has already inaugurate a factory to breed these genetically modified mosquitoes and it has expected to release around 4 million mosquitoes per year to the environment.

As this method has been rated as an environment friendly one Austrian government has agreed to provide technical and manpower assistance to implement this method in Sri Lanka according to Ministry Of Health.a group of Austrian entomologists are due to arrive Sri Lanka by next month to train workers in Anti Mosquito Camapign in Sri Lanka on this method  ministry has said.

180 Varities Of Essential Drugs Are Out Of Stock In Most Of The Pharmacies

Around 180 varieties of essential drugs including the life saving Triglyceride Nitrate (TNT) tablets are out of stock these days in most  of the government and private pharmacies in the country pharmacy sources revealed.due to the shortage patients who are purchasing drugs through these pharmacies faced enormous difficulties sources added.

If these drugs are running out of stock in government hospitals as well patients have no alternative  to purchase these drugs as private pharmacies too are not having stocks of the drugs sources further added.

First Sri Lankan Geostationary Communication Satellite To Be Launched On This Thursday (22)

The first ever geostationary communication Satellite partly owned by  a  Sri Lankan Company "Supreme Sat -1" will be ceremoniously launched on 3.43 p.m this Thursday(22) evening at Xichang Satellite Launch Center in China   senior minister of science Professor Tissa Vitharana has said today (20).the 320 million US Dollar venture satellite is developed with the  assistance of two of the  largest Satellite Companies in China the state owned great wall industry corporation and Sino satellite communications company private limited .

This communication satellite is due to be positioned over Sri Lanka within few hours of it's launch. the aim of launching this satellite is to transmitting signals of satellite  television directly to homes from space .the second and third satellites of Supreme Sat are due to be launched on July 2013 and December 2015 respectively.

The sri lankan company Supreme SAT which partly  owned this satellite is due to open it's first satellite launch center the first of it's kind  here at Koggala area within next few months according to chairman of Supreme SAT Mr.R.M Manivannan.

With this satellite Sri Lanka becomes the 45th country in the world to owned a satellite  of it's own.

Medical Administrators Forum Has Requested Health Minister To Take Stern Action Against Sex Maniacs

The Government Medical Administrator's Forum has requested Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena to revealed the names of health ministry officials who are charged for sexual harassment on women within the ministry premises and take a stern action against them with immediate effect.

Through a written letter to the minister government medical administrators forum has urged the need to take action against those sex maniacs to clear the good name of ministry of health it self.health minister has revealed last week that there were sexual harassment charges against officials in the ministry of health and some females have already complained on them to him.however minster did not revealed the positions and names of the accused officials.

By responding to the minister's statement medical administrators association has said that minister has clearly stated that  most of the females were sexually harasses when they are going to these officials to get a new job,job promotion or a transfer  has puzzled them as most of the said work    are handled by minister him self and his co coordinating secretaries .

Two Minor Nurses Unions Launched An Unsuccessful Island Wide Strike Demanding Solutions For 5 Demands

Two minor Nurses Unions have launched an unsuccessful island wide strike today (15) by demanding solutions for 5 nurses demands according to government hospital sources.the sources confirmed that the launched strike has seen as an unsuccessful one due to the non participation of country's largest nurses union Public Services United Nurses Union lead by Venerable Muruththettuwe Ananda Thero.

However the striking unions ,All Ceylon Nurses Union and Government Nursing Officers Union declared their strike action as a very successful one even after hospital directors stressed that majority of 29,000 nurses served in government hospitals have reported to work today.

Seven Doctors In Karapitiya Teaching Hospital Involves In Fraudulent Drawing Of O.T Money

Seven Doctors attached to Karapitiya Teaching Hospital were fraudulently drawn   a sum of Rs.45,000 per month as overtime payments by using false claims during the period of February 2011 to March 2012 the Auditor General's Department has revealed.according to the department each of these doctors have drawn Rs.630,000 as their overtime payments during the said period by using false claims.

These doctors changed their overtime working hours by erasing  the original arrival and departure times of the diaries maintained by them and involved in this fraudulent activity auditor general department has revealed in the cause of   preliminary inquiry held in this regard.the department has also informed the findings on  this inquiry to the health secretary Dr.Nihal Jayathilake and requested director of Karapitiya Teaching Hospital to give an explanation on this fraudulent activity.

Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranaike To Withdraw Hearing Golden Key And Ceylinco Cases

The Chief Justice Dr.Mrs.Shirani Bandaranaike has said in an open court today(12) that she will withdraw from hearing all cases pertaining to depositors of Golden Key and Ceylinco Shiiram.Mrs.Bandaranaike has taken this decision due to the relationship between above cases and some charges leveled against her in impeachment motion against her .

Government Parliamentarians last week handed over the  impeachment motion against Chief Justice to the speaker Chamal Rajapakshe .

Rs.10 Million Worth Damage Caused At Welikada Prison Riots

Around Rs.10 million in damages have been caused due to the clashes occurred  in Welikada Prison in Colombo last Friday according to Prisons Commissioner P.W Kodippili .around 27 persons killed and another 40 persons including Soldiers ,Special Task Force(STF) Personal and prisoners injured during the clashes.

Meanwhile 79 out of 82 fire arms stolen from Prison Armory during clashes have been recovered up to now Prisons Commissioner has said.

10 Persons Killed ,More Than 35 Injured Due To The Clashes In Welikada Prison

Around 10 persons died and more than 35 got injured  due to the violent clashes occurred between Special Task Force (STF) personal and prisoners  inside   Welikada Prison , Colombo this evening .clashes were  occurred during special search operation carried out by  STF Personal inside prison.

The injured were admitted to Accident Service of Colombo National Hospital while  most of the victims are prison inmates and STF Personal  according to  Hospital Director Dr.Anil Jasinha.STF Personal carried out a special search operation this evening inside Welikada Prison with assistance of  prison officers after received  an information that  illegal activities had taken place inside prison.during search operation a group of prisoners pelted stones at the STF Personal and as a result tear gas was fired to disperse  prisoners.

Several Mobile Phones were recovered during the search operation Prison Sources said.meanwhile a heavy traffic which lasted few hours occurred this evening at  several routes in  Colombo following the closure of Dematagoda-Baseline Road after the incident.

Government Representatives Of The Parliamentary Select Committee On CJ'S Impeachment Motion Appointed

Seven Government Parliamentarians  are appointed today (08) for the Parliamentary Select Committee which is to probe  on impeachment motion against Chief Justice Dr.Mrs.Shirani Bandaranaike.

The government members appointed to the committee  are  government Parliamentarians Nimal Siripala De Silva,Anura Priyadarshana Yapa,Rajitha Senarathne,W imal Weerawansha,Neomal Perera,Dilan Perera and Susil Premjayantha . the four member opposition team  is due to appoint to the committee soon.

The names  of the parliamentary select committee are to be forwarded to speaker Chamal Rajapaksha by 10th of November.

Health Ministry Has Issued A Charge Sheet To Karapitiya Hospital Accountant Over Misusing Of Rs.3 Million Worth State Funds

The Special Investigations Unit of the Ministry Of Health has issued a charge sheet to the female accountant of  Krapitiya Teaching Hospital (Southern Province) on misusing  government funds worth Rs.3 million it has been sated.the said accountant had withdrawn state funds worth 3 million 1 million from state and Rs.2 million from  welfare society for her personal use according to health officials.

A special investigations team attach to Ministry Of Health and the criminal investigations department (CID) are conducting two separate investigations in to the matter.meanwhile the first grade promotion due to be received by the said accountant was suspended by health ministry with immediate effect as a disciplinary action.

40 Low Quality Drug Items Withdrawn From Government Hospitals

Around 40 low quality Drug Varieties distributed to government hospitals island wide were withdrawn by medical supplies division (MSD)during last month government hospital sources revealed.out of this quantity around 10 drugs have  been instructed  to  withdraw from hospitals with effect from today(05) sources said.



"Metfomin "tabs,Cephalexin Injections ,Ceftraxion"Lignocane Gell,Amoxyclav Injection were among the low quality drugs that had withdrawn from hospitals  sources added.within last one and half years around 200 low quality drug varieties were withdrawn from hospitals sources said.

According to medial consultants a large number of low quality drugs that were withdrawn recently have imported from indian drug companies.this situation occurs due to the fraudulent  tender deals  involved when  purchasing of  drug items to government hospitals sources reveals.

The Impeachment Motion Against Chief Justice-Mixed Reactions From Opposition Parties

Sri Lankan opposition leader Ranil Wikramasinha has  pledged his  support to  the government's move to impeach chief justice Dr.Mrs.Shirani Bandaranaike while his deputy MP Sajith Premadasa strongly condemned the impeachment .MP Premadasa has warned  that he will rallied people in the country against  impeachment motion in coming days.

The other opposition parties including leftist Janatha Wimukthi Peramuna(JVP) and Democratic National Alliance lead by former Army Commander General Sarath Fonseka too has           stated that they will rallied people against the impeachment in coming week .the impeachment motion handed over to speaker Chamal Rajapaksha last Thursday (01) by a group of government parliamentarians has created a tension in judicial system as well as in political circles according to reports.

The government has announced that charges on personal misconduct are among the  06 charges embodied in impeachment motion against chief justice.

Meanwhile Sri Lanka Bar Association which has a large membership of local lawyers are due to summoned a special meeting on 09th of November to discuss on impeachment motion against Chief Justice Mrs.Bandaranaike.

Government MP's Handed Over A Impeachment Motion Against Chief Justice

A group of ruling party MP's were handed over   an impeachment motion against Chief Justice Dr.Mrs Shirani Bandaranayake to the Parliamentary Speaker Chamal Rajapkshat this morning .according to the Parliamentary sources the motion was signed by 117 government MP's and revolves around an improper behavior of the chief justice and six other accusations against her.

Government MP's Arundika Fernando,Lasantha Alagiyawanne, and Shanta Bandara were handed over this motion to the speaker this morning at Parliament.the impeachment motion against chief justice was approved by president mahinda rajapaksha at the ruling party leaders meeting held yesterday(31) according to government sources.



Under the  Section 107 of the Constitution, before an impeachment motion is presented to the speaker, atleast a third of the members in the parliament must sign the motion, a third being 75 MPs. It is reported that around 107 MPs have already signed the motion.

Heavy Showers Continues Throughout The Island

Thousands of people have became homeless due to the ongoing heavy showers experienced  in most parts of the island with strong gusty winds according to disaster management center(DMC) .several roads were   blocked this evening following the falling of trees and floods   DMC has said.



PSM's Are To Launch Two Day Island Wide Strke

The professions supplementary to medicine (PSM's) have decided to launch a two day island wide strike on next Tuesday(06th) and Wednesday(07) by demanding solutions for 06 of their service demands according to Joint Trade Union Council Of Professions Supplementary To Medicine.five hospitals namely Lady Ridgway,Castle Street,De Soyza,Cancer and Sirimawo Bandaranaike Memorial Children's Hospitals which were not participated previous trade union actions of PSM's are due to join the proposed two day strike Joint Council has said.

PSM's are launching the mentioned strike by demanding 06 service demands including increasing of Overtime and on call allowances,granting communication allowance to PSM's as well and recruiting unemployed PSM graduates the secretary of Joint Trade Union Council Of Professions Supplementary To medicine saman jayasekera has said.

Over 5000 PSM;s compromising with government pharmacists,radiographers,medical laboratory technologists,physiotherapists and occupational therapists  are expected  to participate in the strike.

Bread Prices To Go Up By Two Rupees

The price of a 450 gramme loaf of bread is increased by Rs.2 with effect from midnight today (29) according to All ceylon Bakers Association.the price of bread was increased following the increasing of wheat flour by Prima and Serandib Mills from Rs.6 and Rs.4 respectively.

Due to the new price increase the price of a loaf of bread will goes up by Rs.2 from the current  prices between Rs.55-60.the Bakery Association has stated  that due to the higher costs and income losses  around 2000 bakeries out of 7000 bakeries island wide were already closed .

Three Cardiac Thoracic Surgeons Have Resigned From The Govt.Sector To Join Private Sector

Three out of twelve Cardiac Thoracic Surgeons working in Government Hospitals here were resigned from government service and joined Private Sector recently due to low Salaries paid in the government sector Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) has announced.Due to this situation the shortage of Cardiac Thoracic Surgeons in government hospitals has  worsened media spokesman of GMOA Dr.Naveen Soyza has said .

One of the popular Cardiac Thoracic Surgeons who was among the group of surgeons  joined private sector recently has received around Rs.15,000,000 as his monthly salary from the Private Hospital he is currently attached with Dr.Soyza has revealed.


One of the senior Cardiac Thoracic Surgeons working in government hospitals  and few other senior medical specialists have also  planning to join the private sector if the low salary structure for government medical specialists has not revised shortly GMOA media spokesman has stressed.the monthly salary of a   medical specialist attached to government hospital is around Rs.42,000 he further added.

Around Rs.1.5 million has spend by the government for specialist training of a medical officer according Ministry Of Health.

Hospital Services Paralyzed Due To Doctors Strike

The out door patients department (OPD) clinics of government hospitals were not functioned and all routine surgeries and treatment had cancelled due to today's island wide one day token strike launched by government doctors.as a result a large number of patients have faced severe difficulties according to hospital sources.

Lists containing thousands of routine surgeries had cancelled almost in every government hospital due to the strike sources added.however striking doctors were attended the emergency services sources further said.

Government Hospital Doctors have launched an island wide token strike today demanding solutions for 3 of their services demands including increasing salaries of all government employees by 1:12 ratio.

The discussions held this morning between GMOA officials and treasury Secretary were fruit full and several agreements were made during the discussions according to GMOA officials .the doctors strike which began this morning is due to end 8 a.m tomorrow(26) morning.
