Milk Powder Companies Have Requested Another Price Increase Of Milk Powder

Milk Powder Companies have  requested the Consumer Affairs Authority to allow them to increase the price of Milk Powder by Rs.70 Per kilo gramme due to the incresed prices of Milk Powder in the World Market as a result of the imcreased value of the US DOllar against the Sri Lankan Rupee.

The value of a Sri Lankan Rupee  against the US Dollar   is around Rs.160 at present and  as a result the Milk Powder Companies now need to spend 3450  US Dollars to import a  metric tonne of Milk Powder comparing to the previous price of US Dollars 3250 per metric tonne according to the Milk Powder Companies.

Three Chinese Nationals Were Arrested While Attempting To Smuggle A Valuable Stocks Of Sea Lions And Kothala Himbutu Cups To China

Airport Customs officers have arrested three Chinese Nationals with stocks of an expensive 265 dried Sea lions and 08 Kothala Himbutu cups in possession at the Katunayake, Bandaranaike International Airport last evening(16).

The stock of 6-11 Centi meter long Dried Sea lions concealed inside a three Tea Tins in the luggages of the suspects  along with the stock of Kothala Himbutu cups it has been revealed.They bought these from Negambo area for higher prices it has been revealed.The estimsted value of the Kothala Himbutu cups is around Rs.160,000 according to reports.

The suspects who are of the ages 35,37 and 40 years were arrested while attempting to board  a Sri Lankan Airlines flight according to Customs officers.

As taking Sea Lions and Kothala Himbutu Cups to another country is illegal under the wildlife and fauna/flora act in Sri Lanka ,Customs have confiscated the stocks and released the three Chinese Suspects after a severely warning .

A Person Was Arrested While Transporting A Haul Of Heroin-Another Was Injured Due To A Gunshot Accidentally Fired From A Police Firearm

A Police Team attached to the Special Investigations Unit of the Polonnaruwa Police have arrested a 28 year old person while tranporting  4.210 Grammes of Heroin in a Bus from Colombo to Kaduruwela  ,While another 30 year old suspect involved in transporting of the haul of Heroin was injured and Hospitalized due to a gun shot accidentally  fired from a gun belongs to a Police  Officer yesterday(16)at Bandiwewa in Polonnaruwa.

The injured suspect who is a resident of Polonnaruwa was admitted to the Polonnaruwa Hospital under police protection for treatment.

The incident occurred when the Police Team stopped the Bus and taken into custody  the Two suspects along with the haul of Heroin in tbeir possession .One suspect had attempted to flee from the bus and when the  Police officers have attempted to stop him a firearm belongs to a Police officer was accidentally   fired and injured the suspect it has been revealed.

The suspect who was arrested by the Police is a resident of  Minneriya  it has been revealed.

Three Suspects Involved In The Gun Shooting Incident Against The Chief Incumbent Of Kirivehera Temple Were Arrested

A Police  Team attached to the Tangalle Divisional Crimes  Investigations Unit had  yesterday (16) arrested the three main suspects who are responsible for gun shooting incident against the Chief Incumbent of the Kataragama Kirivehera Temple Kobawaka Dhamminna Thero at papiliyana area .

The three suspects including the main suspect Asela Bandara who was the former Head of the Mahasen Devalaya of the Kirivehera Temple had fled away after shot and injured the Chief Incumbent and another Buddhist Monk in front of the Kirivehera Temple last Tuesday(12) night.The suspects were hiding in Colombo it has been revealed.

The three suspects are due to be taken to Tangalle for questioning .

A luxurious Motor Vehicle belongs to the main suspect of the gun shooting was taken in to custody by the police while parking it at his house in sella kataragama road ,Kataragama last week.

According to the initial inquries on the incident the gun shooting occurred as a revange as the Chief incumbent Theto of Kirivehera who was injured due to the incident sacked the former head of the Mahasen Devalaya who is the main suspect as he didnt declare the amount of money collected daily in Money till of the devalaya.Around Rs.500,000 is being collected daily but the former head not revealed that to the chief incumbent it has been reported.

The Injured Thero had appointed a new head to the Mahasen Devalaya after sacking the former head .The condition of the Chief Incumbent of Kirivehera Temple who is now receiving treatment at a private hospital in Colombo is being improved it has been revealed.

Sri Lanka Produces An Equivalent Of 30 KG Of Waste Per Person Daily

If  Sri Lanka  were 100 people ,The country produces  an equivalent of 30 Kilogrammes  of waste per person everyday according to a report of Sri Lanka sustainable Energy Authority of the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy.

This calculation is based on the estimated Total waste generation in the country including Industrial Waste .

According to the United Nations Fund For Population Activities(UNFPA) By 2030 Global Target is to substantially reduce the amount of waste generated.
