Ayurvedic Drugs Manufacturing Corporation Has Closed Down Due To A Tense Situation

Ministry of Health,Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine has  closed down the Ayurvedic Drugs
Manufacturing Corporation at Nawinna ,Maharagama until further further notice due to a tense situation occurred at the Corporation premises this evening.

The tense situation has occurred as a result of the protest campaign launched by a group of workers in front of the Ayurvedic Drugs
Manufacturing Corporation this evening by demanding the removal of chairman and managing director of the Corporation.

Amended VAT Bill Imposed VAT On Many Sectors

According to the Amended VAT(Value Added Tax ) Bill approved by the Cabinet yesterday(13) VAT will imposed on Telecommunication Services,Tobacco Products ,Private Health Services excluding diagnostic tests,dialysis and OPD Services (without medical consultation),Powdered Milk with added sugar or other sweetener,Air Ticketing Fee of Air passengers moving from an Air Port in Sri Lanka to an Air Port outside Sri Lanka according to reports.

VAT will also  imposed on the wholesale and retail trade which threshold is greater than Rs.50 million per annum .
The amendments include the imposition of VAT on:
•    Wholesale and retail trade which threshold is greater than Rs 50 million per annum (Rs 12.5 million per quarter)
•    Private health services other than diagnostic tests, dialysis and OPD services excluding medical consultation
•    Telecommunication services
•    Tobacco products
•    Powdered milk which contains added sugar or other sweetening matter
•    Air ticketing fee of air passengers moving from an airport in Sri Lanka to an airport outside Sri Lanka

Cabinet Approved A Proposal On Extending Retirement Age Of Well Experienced Medical Consultants

Image result for medical specialists sri lankaThe Cabinet  has approved a proposal submitted by Minister Of Health,Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Dr.Rajitha Senaratne to extend the compulsory retirement age of well experienced Medical Consultants 63 years by considering their ability .

The Cabinet Spokesman, Health Minister Dr.Rajitha Seneratne has today stated that under the current system it takes long time to fill the vacancies of Medical Consultants prevailing in Government Hospitals numbering 1164 and therefore  Cabinet has decided to extend the compulsory retirement age of Medical Consultants in the Clinical Sector .

Sri Lanka Navy Officers Arrested Four Local Fishermen For Illegal Fishing In Local Waters

Image result for local fishermanSri Lanka Navy Officers have arrested four local fishermen while engaging in illegal fishing by using banned mono filament nets in the seas off Mundampiddi in Periyaaru (In Northern Province).

Navy Officers have also taken into custody a traditional boat(Wallam) and four mono filament nets along with the local fishermen it has been reported.The arrested fishermen and fishing equipment were handed over to the Assistant Director of Fisheries in Mannar for future course of action the Navy have stated.

FCID has Arrested Chanuka Ratwatte Regarding A Financial Fraud

Image result for fcidThe Police Financial Crimes Investigations Division(FCID) has today(14) arrested five persons including Chanuka Ratwatte the brother of the United Peoples Freedom Alliance's MP Lohan Ratwatte regarding a Rs.1200 million  financial fraud during the previous regime.

Chanuka Ratwatte who is one of the sons of former Defense Secretary late Anurudda Ratwatte was charged as involving in the financial fraud through a Company Entrust Securities Private Limited .

The suspect was arrested by FCID  after recorded a statement from him this morning regarding the allegation.He is due to be produced before the court this evening.
