Veteran Photo Journalist Srilal Gomas Has Passed Away

Srilal Gomes's Profile PhotoVeteran Photo Journalist and former Photography Editor attached to Divaina/Island Newspapers Srilal Gomas has passed away this morning at the Colombo National Hospital after long battle with cancer.

He entered the media industry in 1979 as a Junior Photographer of the "Isuru"monthly magazine launched by Mahaweli Ministry and also served as a media secretary to several ministers.

The late Photo Journalist Srilal Gomas's funeral is due to take place this Saturday at Sapugaskande Roman Catholic Cemetery .

We have worked with him for several years and have a good memories on him."May his soul rest in peace".

Office Of Missing Persons Bill Was Passed In Parliament Without A Vote

Image result for parliament sri lanka\The much talked about Office Of Missing Persons (OMP) bill was passed in the Parliament this evening without a vote with amendments.

As a group of Joint Opposition MP's were protested against the Bill by wearing black headbands speaker has suspended the Parliament proceedings this morning.

The former president Mahinda Rajapakshe who now in South Korea for a visit has earlier stated if the draft legislation of  Office Of Missing Persons Bill becomes a law every MP who votes for it will be responsible for betraying the country and armed forces.

Veteran Radio Journalist Elmo Fernando Has Passed Away

Image result for elmo fernandoVeteran Radio Journalist Elmo Fernando who is the Colombo Correspondent of BBC's  "Sandeshaya" Programme for 20 years has  passed away at the age of 75 last night.

He began his career from Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation(SLBC)  than known as "Radio Ceylon " in 1960's and left the job in 1970's  to join "Veritas" overseas Radio Station .Later he has joined the BBC World Service and became the Colombo Correspondent of it's "Sandeshaya" Sinhalese Programme.

He is a very popular Radio Announcer and producer among Sri Lankan audience and we too had an opportunity to meet this wonderful journalist during health assignments."May his soul rest in peace".

Former DIG And Crimes OIC Were Further Remanded Over The Killing Of Former Rugby Player Thajudeen

Image result for remandedColombo additional magistrate has yesterday (10) further remanded the imprisoned  former Deputy Inspector General of Police Anura Senanayake [DIG]and former crimes OIC of Narahenpita Police Sumith Perera until 24th of August over the killing of former Sri Lankan Rugby Player Wasim Thajudeen .

During the court proceedings of yesterday the additional magistrate has questioned the authorities how can the former DIG Anura Senanayake who is in  remand transferred to the merchants ward in Colombo national hospital without Court permission.

The Additional Magistrate has ordered the director of  Colombo National Hospital to submit a report on former DIG's admission to the hospital ward.
